I know there are torrent clients out there but I am still using ol' school bit torrent. What would y'all recommend? I'll only use one that is free of spyware/adware, of course.

ive been using shadowtorrent or bitornato for a long time, it comes with a "manual announce" tool that ive found to be real handy to find and boost connections, when using this tool ive found that having your bandwith set to unlimited finds more clients, then i switch it back to my prefered setting.

The only one I ever liked was bittornado/shadow's :)

:stupid:
I like bittornado much better than Azereus. Though it can get really cluttered with multiple torrents running, I find it seems less bloated than Azeureus, though Az does have the safe peer plug-in.
I've been using TorrentStorm.

do torrent clients help decrease your download time, or are they just to manage the number of windows and downloads open?

Time to download usually depends on how many seeds are available and of course your connection.
The difference in clients is usally based on ease of use and frilliness

Less frills=less overhead=less cpu time used up

so none of the frills really improve download performance? What was all this talk about unlimited client finds?

Wow. I am trying Azureus now, and what a difference!!!! AMAZING!!
Maximum D/L speeds (that I noticed):
Stand-alone bit-torrent - ~30kb/s (at best... averaged around 10-15kb/s)
Azureus - ~66kb/s!!!!
And with no noticable lag on my internet browsing! Wow!! I checked out bit tornado (i think), but didn't want to mess with installing python and stuff... so i went with azureus. And I thought, hey, i'll be cool and support open source. :P a quick search for "spirit" didn't really lead to many unseedy looking sites, so that was out too.
