I am not sure what your trying to show. Is that one of those computers in mineral oil. Non conductive mineral oil or something else? People are experimenting with cooling their rigs in it, but it's not as effective as other measures.

Oh sorry. I guess it's not self explanatory. I took it from slashdot.

I think it was a big deal on /. because not many actually dunk the entire thing in the mineral oil.

Personally I'm waiting for a dumbass to try to replicate it and just dunk his computer in plain water.

not as exciting as some other articles that i have seen on this same subject + isn't his hardware out of date?

pretty neat, ive used mineral oil as a coolent/lubricant for tools. mineral oil can get pretty hot with friction, in this case i would imagine it would work quite well for overclocking an old celeron or somthing, be interesting to try overclocking a p4 but i would hate to eat the cost if somthing went wrong.

this is showing my ignorance in my chemistry (i last took it freshman year in college). Does this oil flammable? It would be very funny if the oil got hot it would burst into flames :D :naughty:

i don't remember oil being able to do that, mabey if it was compressed :eek3:

um, that makes no sense. oil is essentially an incompressible fluid. most fluids are incompressible, that's why hydraulic systems work.

i don't believe mineral oil is flamable. in fact, i am pretty sure it's not.

i think it is a stupid idea. think of how messy and inconvinient it is to service that rig. not to mention that any moving parts will be slowed by the viscosity of the fluid being higher than air. whatever, it's all a novelty.

Well for one, that must be, what, a 20 gallon tank? that's a lot of mineral oil...
