Mission: find me a motherboard

Ok, here is the deal. I'm thinking of upgrading my cpu/mobo. But not my video card (6800GT.)

The problem is my video card is AGP. I want a 939 pin A64 setup because its futureproof and if I upgrade a year and a half from now I'll be able to use it still. But in a year and a half, I'll be ready for a new video card, and that will be PCI express.

So what I need you all to find for me, since I have no idea if it even exists, is an A64 939pin motherboard with AGP and PCI Express. I'd significantly prefer an Nvidia chipset over VIA and I'd prefer Asus/Abit over anything else.

So there is your task. Many thanks in advance.

Why not just eBay your card and pick up a PCIe card? I was unaware that they sell motherboards with both....

I just ran a quick newegg.com search and there were 0 939 motherboards with both AGP and PCIe

Yeah I noticed that too. They don't seem to sell both, though I distinctly remember readign a review of one that did from a year or so ago, but it sucked.

Ebaying my current card will probably get me 75% of its value just to move sideways to a pci-express version.

I think my best bet is to just keep saving for another year and get a new mobo, cpu and video card at the same time.

754 have no upgrade future. I'd have to buy a new motherboard if I wanted to upgrade again a year from now.

Go cheap now and upgrade it all later. You will have to upgrade your card to pci-e at some point. Dual core will be expesive for a few more years. 939 will top out at around 2.6-2.7 ghz 4xxxx+.

I recently dropped a lot of cash doing what you're thinking of doing except I exchanged my agp 6800gt and went pci-e. If i had to do it all over again, I probably would have just kept my agp card and not paid a premium on the 939.
2 years from now, I will mostly likely want to upgrade the whole rig and not just the cpu. Different ram will be standard and the new mobos will most likely perform better with the dual cores.

You can drop under $180 and be done with it or pay around $300 now and grab a 939 dual core in a couple of years. By then you will want a new mobo and video card so your just postponing the inevitable.

but, if you still want a 939-pin setup, i believe biostar offers motherboards that have both pci-e and agp slots. it's no asus/abit board, but it's the ONLY motherboard out there that has both slots. if it's any consolation, their motherboards are based on the nforce4 chipset and they are considerably cheaper (pricewise) that asus/abit.

whatever you do, i agree with jello. whatever hardware you buy today will become obsolete at some point. it's how technology works (too bad i learned the hard way :neartears).

edit: removed newegg link to biostar nf4 sli mobo as it doesn't have an agp slot (which would defeat the purpose of sli :|).

I decided not to buy anything now. My current set up is still good enough for another year at least.
