View Full Version : Wedding quotes?

Hey, I'm looking for a good quote to put on our wedding invites, preferably one from the Bible. Right now we have Matthew 19:6 - "What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Any other suggestions? I can't stand the over-played "love is patient, love is kind, etc" verses.
TIA!

"...But those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness." -Proverbs 14:22 (NIV)
"If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to flames, but have not love, I gain nothing." - 1 Corinthians 13:3 (NIV)
"And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." -1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)
also look into the book of Song of Songs 8:6-9

yeah. the song of solomon would be good. here's vows i created for you out of the book. lemme know if you use them.
Your vows: I am a wall, and my breasts like towers. A bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts. His legs are as pillars of marble, set upon sockets of fine gold: his countenance is as Lebanon, excellent as the cedars. His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend.
His vows: How beautiful are thy feet with shoes! The joints of thy thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman. Thy navel is like a round goblet, which wanteth not liquor: thy belly is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies. Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins. Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim: thy nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus. Thine head upon thee is like Carmel, and the hair of thine head like purple.

You really find that kind of realationship attractive?
I'm much more into the Laura Bush kind of lady who both knows her place but has so much individual personality and independance.
Or like Angelina Jolie, much grace and cleans up well but also alot of adventure and passion for the world.

Submitting and (to a lesser degree) worshiping contradict independence.
Women who have no mind of their own bug me.

Mrs. Kevster would've shot me if I said, "Hail to the king, Baby" when we kissed at the altar. Merlin was there, and he might remember me saying, "Give me some sugar, baby" instead. :D

don't forget a few verses later:
Eph. 5:28-30: In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church—for we are members of his body.

I know that I am reading this probably out of the context and not interpreting it the same way other people are but... if you had a wife and she is still letting you love her, why would you have to love your own body?

A number of reasons: Loving oneself is faster; sometimes a guy needs variety; guys sometimes want "love" more often than girls; she may be on the rag; the wife might not be around... etc

i can't really tell if you're joking so i'll explain. if you are indeed joking, then oh well. it means loving your body in the sense that you care for your well-being. husbands are to love their wives as if they are a part of them and always looking out for your wife's best interest. you take care of yourself and treat yourself well so you should do the same for your wife.

Hehehehe... yeah I was joking but your explaination did bring one thing to my mind... given how badly we take care of ourselves... maybe we shouldn't treat our wives like we treat our body...
btw... also kidding. :P
kinda...

Let's see, treat the wifey like my own body.....
I like to give my body chocolates and every kind of dessert imaginable. I let my body sleep in on the weekends and go play whenever it wants to. It gets to sleep on the most comfortable bed, like anywhere. My body is allowed to disappear for days at a time. It has access to every kind alcohol known to man, but has warned me repeatedly that it doesn't like to overconsume alcohol. My body hangs out with with all kinds of people, some of questionable character. It has gotten into some situations and is lucky to still be around. My body sits in an AC'd office for 8 hours a day during the week and doesn't do any work outside of that. It likes to go to the beach, a lot. My body likes to go outside to ride and surf, but is denied those simple pleasures time after time. Sometimes my body gets kept up very late, but that is not its fault. Yesterday it spent some time in the gym and is sore and got to overslept this morning. My body is sometimes forced to things it doen't want to do. Like it doesn't want to go bungie jumping, but it will. It watches a lot of sports, even when our team is losing and that can be pretty painful. My body is the temple and is not allowed to smoke or do drugs or own cats. ;)
All in all wifey wouldn't be treated too bady, but I would probably have to be a bit better to her than I am to myself if I wanted it to work.

maybe one of the resident jews can help me out here... there's some quote about god counting the tears of a woman... anyway, it means "if you hurt a woman, god's keeping score and will f*** your a** up later."
i think it's a sweet sentiment :dodgy:

I dunno... this can get kinda dicey. I mean I really don't want god (assuming one or more of them exist) to be keeping score against the women in my life who I have shed tears for.
