do you guys have friends or family members who think it's weird or dangerous to meet people you only know online? i met a cousin of mine who's twice my age (48) and i haven't seen in 9 years. so i go on telling him i'm meeting some people i know online for this DC get-together tonight and he starts worrying that i'm gonna get hurt and how i can i trust these people and all. do you other people get that?

damn...he's onto us...no time for the sleeping pills...just use the cyanide ones.
I met my now fiance online. I've met a couple people online in college. My feeling is go with someone you know and provide your own transportation and meet in a public spot. That's what I advise myself and people I know. Or carry a knife too. :)

hehehe...yeah...I would be careful, but I think G|A is a friendly enough place. Also I wouldn't meet one or two people by themselves.

my wife thinks the same thing. as do most of my friends. i tell them, hey...apex isn't a dating site, nor is it a site dedicated to pron or something. and i've known the people i've met for years. the chances of them being psycho isn't any higher just because i met them online.
i've met att, guisseppe, merlin, canta, lk, and have almost met df and chrissy but got this weird premonition and backed out at the last second. :heh: all have been pretty cool and make me want to meet more of ya'll. but i'm tired of meeting guys. ladeeez?

My wife thinks it's weird. I've only met Nija, Dopey, PinkGirl, and ZreEo and that was it. I've kind of backed off from meeting people online. Maybe that's Nija's fault. :hihi:

Meeting people safely isnt dumb.. Its when your Wife starts meeting people online.. and then in person.. and not telling you about it.. Thats when the problem comes in :-D

I have met one person from an online dating thing... but I was comfortable at the time with it, since we had talked for months and months on the phone. Plus it was at a public space.
And I have met 1 apex member, Apex, and while a bit nervous he would put me into slavery searching for dell deals, it turend out to be okay!
I think you have to be a judge of it. If the person seems too eager and gets all creepy, I say give it some thought, wait a month see if they change, but I think 97% of the people on here are respectable. (Not naming the other 3%, heh) And if it is at a resturant or something public what do you have to lose.
I will admit, online personalities are so different, even if you have tons of photos. It is a cool experience to put, convo, voice, and face together, and "Really" get to know the person.

I haven't met anyone face to face. But I do/did know where Bires lives. :D
Cheapie skipped out on me.
And you would think that since Bires and I live in one of the most visited places that everyone seems to go to for fun, ONE of us would get a call.

You're right. I'm a much bigger a-hole in person. I think everyone that's met me can vouch for that :D

I'm not as talkative in person as I'm online. I'm the kind of guy neighbors and friends talk about after a double murder..."But he looked so nice, he even carried my groceries the other day...oh my...he knows where I live!!! Nooooooo!!!!"

I don't know. There's that whole odd-side to meeting people from online. Like, with a few exceptions, when last year's meetup started, it was sort of slow because we theoretically knew each other, but had never met.
That, or it was just odd because the manager asked, "So, how do you know each other?" And we'd have to say, "Oh, we've actually never met."
But then, the world being as small as it is... I'm mutual friends with some people on G|A? so it's possible I'd have met eventually anyways. That, and when G|A? first got big a few years back, everyone at UCLA seemed to know each other.

I thought the same thing, until people started ripping me apart! I just wanted to have fun and meet everyone, not get ripped apart and consumed in some bizzare G|A ritual! I think you're all a bunch of jerks!
So... when is the next Southern California gathering? ;)

Well I'm getting off work soon so I'll see some ppl at the DC meetup. If not then it's just coffee with angl2b and myself. I'll attempt to get a table inside the starbucks or just stand outside.

that is true... until you see the person on their webcam, talk to them on the phone, or meet them irl (of course) and then they are suddenly this live-breathing-person, and not just a bunch of typed words.
