re: BFG 6800OC problems in games

Hello, I have the following specs for my computer

gigabyte 939 board
retail AMD64 3500+ cpu
512x2 DDR ram
BFG geforce 6800 OC + dell 20' monitor
Antec Sonata case with 380W (antec) PSU

using wd 100gig + maxtor 300gb hdds eide
with logitech laser mouse

I fresh installed WINxp, installed all nvidia nforce/video card drivers
doom3 works but not warcraft3 and nba live 2005.
Actually, even doom3 at times would stall my computer and I'd have to reboot
warcraft 3 (and nba live) is so choppy at the menu that I cannot even move the damn mouse. (the graphics on the background gets wacked as well ie stuff missing, or no ladybug graphics on the shield or anything for those of u who have war3 :)

But when I plug in the old video card (geforce4 ti) everything seems to work fine

does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?
I called BFG and they told me taht I have to make sure all the cpu/voltage crap done correctly but didn't tell me what I should do,

also, they say that my PSU might not be generating enough power for everything to run properly...

I'm not sure how to fix this problem (and I would hate to take this to bestbuy or compusa for them to check things out for me)
please let me know what I should do

Like your PSU isn't strong enough. Most newer video cards ('specially NVidia) need a PSU capable of putting out at least 450W.

It could also be a problem with the core of your video card being OCed too high, if it's freezing in games.

But, most likely you should get a better PSU. Most PSUs that ship with cases are poop.

Find out what type of power supply you have, and its power rating, and post again. It is looking to me and others, like a under-powered-power supply, especially with a 6800OC.

Yeah, it is most likely your power supply being underpowered, 380 will not cut it, especially with two large(r) hard drives. It would make sense that things would freeze
-probably during a load-screen of a game, as the hard drive would need to start spinning up faster, which requires more power.
If you want to check all this, you can use google to find the power ratings of your individual components, you'll want to look at the spin-up power consumption for your hard drives, max rating for your cpu, max rating for your graphics card as well, you also might want to throw in 5 or so watts for any type of chassis fan, etc.
Bottom line.. if you add all these numbers up, and come within say.... 30-50 watts of your psu's rating (380W * efficiency percent(found on box from psu, or google'd) ) then you are definitely running short on power.

Other than psu problems, go with updating your drivers to latest _stable_ release, and make sure you have correct directX crap installed-which should be fine-.

lol, depends on what you're looking to spend on it, give it 200 bucks and you can have it w/out moving parts lol. Though I'm not the guy to ask on the psu's, because I just get lucky w/ cheap ones I guess...

Anyone else? I'd say you're looking for 400-450W.
