Is it legal to make a left turn on red when you are driving on a one way street and you are turning left onto another one way street that runs right to left?
I've always wondered this but I'm not sure.

Yes... you can make a left on red onto a one way. Unless there is a sign there that prohibits it. :thumb:

Look up the California Vehicle Code rather than asking online, cause no one can really tell you the legality of it unless we have traffic cops or lawyers on here. Even then I think they'd tell you the same.

Yes it's legal.

Couple more tickets and I'll be the next best thing :P
From the California Vehicle Code:
21453. (a) A driver facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a marked limit line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown, except as provided in subdivision (b).
(b) Except when a sign is in place prohibiting a turn, a driver, after stopping as required by subdivision (a), facing a steady circular red signal, may turn right, or turn left from a one-way street onto a one-way street. A driver making that turn shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians lawfully within an adjacent crosswalk and to any vehicle that has approached or is approaching so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard to the driver, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to that vehicle until the driver can proceed with reasonable safety.

I would imagine that this can vary from State to State.

Is your driving that attention getting? Only my skin color, age and car make me a target. :shifty: :winkie:

Well that's lousy. I could never blame skin color - but my age and car definitely worked against me for a while. I have a stock car now though so it must just be me...

Well being yellow and driving a Civic or an Accord or for that matter any import seems to make me a target, considering I've only driven all stock cars. Well some say I have a bad attitude when I get pulled over even though my words are polite, my stance can be agressive. But that only explains why I've never been able to talk my way out of ticket, not why I got pulled over in the first place.
C'est la vie. They have to make a living by making examples out of people, and I seem to be the easiest prey.

Might not be in Alhambra/Monterey Park but definitely Pasadena or Irvine.

Definitely in North OC/Southeast LA Co. there's quite a bit of that. That would be where I live.
I've been trailed a few times even when there were faster cars and I was going a steady 65.
But no matter, I'll take responsibilty for being ticketed when I got ticketed, I did break the law. But it still does suck to be trailed for no reason, and while it's not exactly Driving While Black, I can understand why they are wary of cops even in their own neigborhood.

i'm not sure what you're getting at, but all of those places are heavily Asian.

Hmm this might be a good thread to ask another question. The say 3 lane road(2x each way with a turn. You pull into the left turn lane, and you have a Red ball, but there are TWO other green lights. So in total for 2 lanes, there are 3 stop lights, 2 on green, one on red(red one right above the turn lane). What gives in this cituation?
Like if you have a red ball, you can't make the turn even if it is green right?

Ive been pulled over 3 times.. and never recieved a warning.. Even when only doing a little bit over.. I guess they just dont like me cause Im white :-P .. I did have a cop lower my speed once for me tho.. so the fine was really cheap.. and no record kept.. but I tossed him my license holder with my Military ID in it.. for that one ..

Having military ID makes a world of difference.

If it's RED (left turn only) in front of you, you can't make the left turn. The green lights are for going straight only.

In San Diego it doesnt help as much as one would like.. depends if the cop is Prior or not .. In Oklahoma it seemed to work a bit better :) .. Although .. I guess it worked one night in SD when I was pulled over doing 90 in a 65.. He "wrote me a ticket" .. But.. "oops.. Lost it" .. Later on.. and It was never turned into the Courts.. He also made it a point to ask if I was military.. then let me go after I passed my Breathalyzer Test ;)
And to Answer the Earlier Question.. If there is a Turning Lane.. and a Light for it. . No matter how many other Lights there are.. You still have to stop and wait.

But why would they have TWO green lights for one straight lane?
Get what I am saying, I always knew that you couldn't turn, but never made sense to have three different lights(1 turn, 2 straight) for two lanes(1 turn, 1 straight), just weird.

It's for future expansion.. So they don't have to add a Light when they Expand the Roads! :wavey2: :spock: :)

Or if one of the lights go out. It is good to have a back up. And the more lights the less likely you are to miss them.
