a DVD rip with all the audio...

so I have this DVD rip that contains ALL the audio tracks, and when I play it (the file has an .AVI extension) in WMP, all the audio tracks play at once, so you hear the commentaries and a bunch of other nonsense. How do you mute/turn off the other audio tracks?

It sounds like it wasn't ripped properly. If its in AVI then its a single audio track merged from all the others. I recomend you try out this. I have a good application that was freeware that rips to Divx and lets you pick what audio track you want, but I have it at home. Email me and I can check into it later for you.
