About two weeks ago, I started getting tons of Popups, many are the same over and over. The Google Toolbar lists over 160 blocked.

I reloaded the toolbar and it doesn't help. Should I be using something else?

What OS? XPsp2 has a built-in popup blocker.

I suspect spyware.

Go here: http://nyquil-kid.dyndns.org/ - download the .iso and the User Guide (http://nyquil-kid.dyndns.org/AntiVirusGuide.htm) , burn the .iso to CD (http://iso.snoekonline.com/iso.htm) and boot from the CD to disinfect your system.

Once you're clean, download/install Javacool Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) to help prevent reinfestation.

I haven't downloaded SP2 yet because I read that a Virus that infects the restore files will not act until SP2 is added. PcCillin keeps notifying me during their almost daily update of attempting to clean a Trojan or Virus (SBOT or SDBOT?) which is in an rdriv. file or files and sometimes it is unsuccessful. I think rdriv has something to do with these restore files, but I could be wrong.

Does anyone know about this? I am afraid if I install SP2, I could end up with something worse than I am living with.

Turn off System Restore, scan for viruses/spyware (using the Nyquil Kid disc I posted above, and following the directions referenced), and, once you're sure you're clean, turn System Restore back on and set a restore point. Then, upgrade to SP2 and set another Restore Point.

I personally think System Restore is a little overrated - it is not all it is cracked up to be.

Along w/SP2, also install the MS Anti-Spyware beta (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en). Sounds like you might have spyware or even a browser hijack.
