I am running OSX.4.1 on a Mac Mini which is hooked to a monster LCD screen at my work. It works beautifully, except that if you change the Display resolution too high it will go out of range, and then it is very difficult to get back to the proper resolution. I have a limited account but that still gives you access to Display properties. In X.3 I was able to disable it (I think) but in X.4 I can't seem to find this option. Does anyone (ribitch) know where to disable a limited user from changing Display preferences?

By the way, I did select the option that says "require password for changing critical system preferences" or something like that so that's not it.

TIA!

in OS X Server 10.4 you can use MCX to manage the system preferences to disable the display prefpane.

You can possibly modify the permissions to give the admin user and group rwx and everyone no access. That will keep them from executing the prefpane, and then changing their resolution.

I think apple doesnt allow this to be fully managed because some people prefer higher resolutions, while others are blind as a bat and need low resolutions

Thanks ribitch. I am trying to locate that prefpane.
