I'm pretty far behind the times as far as DVD burners go, never really needed one till now. Any suggestions of good ones?

NEC 3520a at newegg for around $50 is your best bang for the buck burner and the one to get imo.

:stupid: Definitely a good one. I have last year's model, an NEC 2500 which I paid more than the 3500 series and I love it.

I will add an avoid - don't buy an Aopen. Just had one fail, checked out the tech threads at their site, and there are a LOT of angry customers there. No technical help whatsoever.

On the bright side, you submit a request for an RMA - and you get one immediately.

I just installed mine this week. :D

Also, if you get one, do some searching around for firmware updates. There's some rather good "unofficial" ones out there.

:stupid: That's what I have and I love it. I don't think I've had any coasters at all since I got it and it's extremely fast. :)

I have a Lite-On 4x and it never burns coasters...all my DVD players (including the little portable) can read their discs.

I recently bought a BTC (Fry's special) Dual-layer burner-working flawlessly, but it's only two-weeks old.

I've been using 2 lite-on 4x for 1.5 yrs and like Bires said, never made any coaster. It reads everything I throw in and yeah. It is loud but is it louder than NEC or Pioneer burner?

I have a NEC ND-3500AG and a NEC ND-2100 (flashed to ND-2500) and I have no complaints so far with either one.
