Well, here it is 12:30 in the morning and i have a feeling i will be up all night. Remember the 3 legged kitty I found? well, she went into labor about a half hour ago and she wont let me leave her side. Its kinda cool but scary. She was so malnorished when i found her, im worried about the kittens. She isnt very fat so i dont think there are more than 2 kittens, i just hope they are healthy. Its taking me a long time to type this, cause if i stop petting her, she jumps out of her basket. i dont think it will be long now! I'll post updates! :)

Best of luck with the delivery? Do you have a digital camera? Make sure to take snapshots :)

lol... do you have to help pull it out or anything? I'd be at a loss for what to do if an animal went into labor.

I got a female mouse for my male mouse to play with, and they consummated their love 5 minutes after they met, and then some. In 2 weeks 6-8 baby mice will come out, and I'm hoping she doesn't need my help!

she seems to be doing fine on her own. Im just kinda watching to make sure everything goes alright. the only time I had to pull was about 5 minutes after the kitten was born she was still cleaning it and she never pushed out the after birth, so i gave the kitten a little tug and it came out and she ate it .. :spock: kinda gross but i read on a website i should let her eat it cause there are alot of nutrients an stuff in there that are good for her . but i better get back to her, she is ignoring the new kitten and starting to pant again so i think number 2 is on the way!

Awww, congrats. The best thing to do is let nature take its course. If after she finishes, she continues to ignore them, then get a clean towel, pop it in the dryer for 30 seconds to warm it just a bit, then kind of clean them off so they don't get too chilly. But should be ok. :)

well its been a little over an hour since she had her first kitten and she hasnt had another one... she isnt pushing like she was before, im wondering if maybe she will only have one? i hope something happens soon, im gettin tired!

Its 7:15 am... i went and had a couple of hours of sleep.. i was expecting to see another kitten when i woke up, but she still only has one and thats all shes gonna have because shes back to her old self now. Two kittens would have been nice so it could have had a littermate, but one will be easy to find a home for when its old enough :) I'll take a pic of it later today, its sooooo cute!

I think I saw something similar too on late night Cinemax :shifty:

/not sure sure what that means

i'nit unusual for a cat to have a litter of one? Usually I hear 3-6.

it is unusual for a cat to just have one, but when i took her to the vet a couple of weeks ago he said she would only have one or two because she was in such bad condition when i found her... she was almost staving to death so i imagine her body couldnt handle multiple kittens.

You do of course know this is how they infiltrate your home. They come in under the guise of charity and instantly start popping out kittens to play to your compassion for soft furry little things. Little do you know this is the first phase of their evil plan to take over the world! Cats are evil! Next thing you know they'll try urinating on the TV or the computer monitor to try and set your place on fire (and of course they'll get away because they're cats!). Don't say I didn't warn you Sweatpear!

you should separate the female/pups from the male. in my experience with lab mice, the male often ate the new-born pups. well, the female did too. hehe

Yeah, you just want the male in the cage. It decreases the odds of the pups being eaten and it also decreases the amount of time they spend being stepped on by their parents. Pups usually are fine being stepped on by one parent but when you have two parents stepping on the pups it takes more of a toll on them.

Glad the one she had seems to be doing ok! Hopefully it'll stay healthy and she will be able to grow and flourish since she isn't on the street anymore!

Congrats!! Does that make u grandma? Or Dr.Sweetpear...and if u r grandma does that make me auntie? I'm sooooo confused. At least it wasnt like my dog Shiloh when she had puppies and I had to break the sacks open...that was gross! :puke: Ah well...keep u know who away from that kitten or u know u will be keeping that one too!!

Many nationalities DO eat the placenta after delivery....

You never forget watching one of your cows eat its afterbirth after it just gave birth to a calf. Or a mare after she just foaled (seen 'em both).

So you're telling me that my male is going to be a deadbeat dad? I just need to figure out who to remove and at what point in her pregnancy to remove him.

Remove the male as soon as you know that she is pregnant... definitely before she is ready to give birth. Oh... and when the female is giving birth (most likely at night so you might miss it anyways) but unless there is some major problem... don't try to help her. It'll really freak her out.

Also, odds are you aren't going to be able to put the male back in for a while. After about 2 weeks or so you're also going to have to separate the male pups from the female pups and the mom (female pups can stay with mom but male pups have to be removed) or they are going to start mating with each other.
