I have a friend who does wedding videos. My nephew is now editing the footage and putting them on DVDs.

After each wedding, my friend has to take his video camera over to my nephew's house and load the info onto his computer in real time, which can take hours.

Or one of them could purchase a mini DV player/recorder which cost from $700 to $3000, which is ridiculous.

I can't figure why the price of those things are so expensive.

decks are for full time editors. If you're gonna be looking for a deck and are a hobbyist it may be smarter to pick up a cheap dv camera instead since you can find those for a lot less and hell at least you got a backup cam for shooting then too. Only reason a pro wouldn't do this is that a deck is more durable and meant for constant use of trasnfering and outputting dv tapes but for a hobbyist the amount of wear and tear put on a camcorder won't be enough to really hurt it.

Thanks, a cheap camcorder would probably be worth it, even if it didn't last a long time.
