I had to go to No. California on family business last week and was able to do a bit of fishing in the Mt. Shasta area again.

I was on the McCloud river and at Lake McCloud Reservoir. Surface action was dead in the mid-afternoon, so I switched to lures and on my third cast I caught this German Brown Trout on a 1/8 oz Rooster Tail lure. I have had a lot of success with this lure in the past and it is excellent in bright conditions. Since German Browns are not native to this area, I kept this one and ate him that night. He was a nice size as you can see and he was VERY tasty! :lick:

I caught this native McCloud River Rainbow Trout on a #14 Adams dry fly (you can see it in the net). I used my 9' fly-rod in late afternoon at the mouth of the McCloud river as it entered the Lake McCloud Reservoir. Since this was a native trout, I let him go nice and safe (I go to great lengths to save my trout, including using barbless hooks):

Here is a shot from one of the creeks feeding the lake. I used a polarizing filter to minimize reflections and glare:

I was walking along this dirt road and I took a quick shot because I liked the setting (framing was right too). I saw a black bear up the road from this shot and I hightailed it the other way back to my boat.

Great shots. All that fishing jargon was totally lost on me, but I'm sure your fellow fishermen (fisherwomen) were understanding you totally.

I really really really like the pic of the road.

Nice shots. What beautiful country! However, I don't eat anything that swims next to it's own poop.

Beautiful photos and nice to see some people still care about their enviroment and only keep what they will eat.

If anyone wants full-size shots, here are some of them (clickable to save Ray's bandwidth - Thanks Ray!):

Here's another shot I like. It's a bit surreal, but the filter I used really helps clear it up:

how did you cook your catch?

I normally clean them and prepare them, including removal of all gut, cutting off the head, removal of the pectoral (side) and pelvic (bottom) fins, and removal of the scales. I can do all this with a simple swiss army knife. I then place the prepared fish in a container filled with a lemon-mustard marinade and let them soak for an a hour or two in the fridge. Then I wrap them in aluminum foil hat has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. They normally get done in a few minutes on a hot grill. You have to be sure they are cooked due to the possibility of freshwater parasites. Once they are done the flesh will literally fall off the bones.

i just came back from alaska for work and boy was it beautiful up there. You should take a trip up there for some salmon fishing. fishermen were pulling fish out like 1 every 5 minutes
