of the mix tape/cd

When you are the giver or receiver of a mix tape/cd do you look for or put a hidden meaning to it through your song selection via lyrics?

Usually when giving I have a specific message: I miss you or I love you, or best friends, or some such.

The true is the same in the receiving.

For me at least.

Yes. All the songs have the same theme...in my mind.

I prefer non obvious songs personally...and not having all the songs follow a theme.

I've never given a mixed cd or received one as I think they're lame.

I gave a mixed CD to a girl I just met, and labeled it "SONGS YOU MAY OR MAY NOT LIKE" -- a lot of them have love lyrics, so I clearly labeled it that the CD wasn't a hint at anything; just music :)

Every mix is unique for me. Each has had some sort of theme to it, though. I used to make one each X-mas, and blow off a bunch of copies and give 'em away. That would usually be a mix of things I've been listening to over the last year. I try to keep the mixes eclectic. Make sure there is at least one piece for each person to love, and one they will probably hate. Other mixes I've made are often based on musical themes or moods (The sad mix, the driving mix, the stoner mix, the punk mix, the headbanging mix, etc.)

Heh...those lyrics are great.

I decided to go all out and did a booklet (will have to print it tomorrow) with lyrics and artwork, as well as that insert that goes inside the case.

http://www.stenchofpennies.com/mixcd/

filenames make it self explanitory.
Lyric pages are pinted as 1 2 3 4
front cover pages as 4 3 2 1 (with 4 not finished yet)
the blue side panels on the "Backcover image" will fold and display on the side of a cd case.

All Coverart and artwork has meaning...if she picks up on it is another story.

Yeah there is usually an underlying theme or meaning to my mixed CDs but nobody ever gets them. My humour isn't as obvious to others as I think it is.

Yeah but in my defense it's harder on-line for people to realize that I like to deadpan jokes.
