updated report maybe to put our minds at rest. But I am still freaking out. :o) but this made me feel a little better.

'Major' Quake Off Coast Triggers Tsunami Warning

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. -- A tsunami warning is in effect for the Oregon, Washington and California coasts after an earthquake was recorded off the Northern California Coast.
The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a major earthquake hit at 7:50:54 p.m. 91 miles west/southwest of Crescent City. The hypocentral depth was 6.2 miles. The magnitude was recorded at 7.0.

The National Weather Service told KOIN News 6 that a precautionary tsunami warning was issued. The agency said that if the quake generated a tsunami, it would hit shore before 8:45 p.m.
KCBS Radio reports that residents of Crescent City were evacuated, as were people in Gold Beach, Ore., just north of the California border.

The warning was in effect from the California/Mexico border to Vancouver Island, Canada.

More to come.

i'm in sacramento and i didn't feel a thing... saw the tsunami warning on the telly and it made me mildly uneasy, but not for my own safety (i'm too far inland for it to affect me). glad it seems to have been a false alarm...

Well, this is a first for me!! Never heard of a tsunami warning in Cali and thankfully it was cancelled.

Also its kind of freaky how all of these earthquakes have occurred during this short time and they also bring memories of that horrible 94' Northridge quake.

Hope all you cali folks are safe and hopefully these quakes stop!! I think we had enough for this year

I was near there about a week ago - that is, I was in the vicinity of Weed and Dunsmuir from that map. If I remember correctly, that is in the Punta Gorda plate zone. They have earthquakes there all the time. It occurred over 90 miles away from Crescent City, so I'd be surprised if it caused any damage at all.

As for the Tsunami warning, we have our Tsunami klaxons tested here every day at noon in Hermosa Beach (the beach closest to me - about 1.5 miles) and I can hear them from my house.

I know I have posted this before, but I'll post it again - the list of all earthquakes in California and Nevada. I look at this list every day.

I'm in Anaheim and a big truck was driving past my window so it took me a second to realize that it was a small quake.

I can't believe how quick they (and you) got the information up! That was within just a few minutes! I figured it would take time to get the data in and have somebody post it. Maybe they have an automated system.

The USGS has a very large seismic network in California. They have a large regional network spanning the 5 county area of Los Angeles/Ventura/San Bernadino/Riverside/Orange counties. They also have other regional networks like Long Valley Caldera (Mammoth Lakes), along the San Andreas fault (Hollister, King City and Parkfield especially), The San Francisco Bay Area, Lake Tahoe/Reno area, Lassen/Shasta Volcanic areas, and the Humboldt/Eureka area (Punta Gorda - where the 7.2 was recorded off the coast).

I wonder if I have time to get my redcross kit? :stupid:

buy as many houses as you can in CA now. CA will now be an island! Island properties cost $$$

CA property is already above island property value. I just want to know where the next beach front properties are going to be located.
