Schiavo Autopsy Shows Massive Brain Damage
AP - 12 minutes ago
LARGO, Fla. - An autopsy on Terri Schiavo backed her husband's contention that she was in a persistent vegetative state, finding that she had massive and irreversible brain damage and was blind, the medical examiner's office said Wednesday. It also found no evidence that she was strangled or otherwise abused. But what caused her collapse 15 years remained a mystery. The autopsy and post-mortem investigation found no proof that she had an eating disorder, as was suspected at the time, Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner Jon Thogmartin said.

Not much of a surprise, goes along with what most scientifically educated and learned people said. She was nothing but a shell. The brain scan shown quite often online proved she was missing key components of sentience and sensory input/processing.
It did surprise me to learn that she didn't even have the ability to see, it backs up reports that the parents spent months creating that video, splicing different takes to get it to look like she was concious.
Just further proof that living wills are essential.

it's unfortunate that her family, the politicians, and the country had to go through all that rigamarole when all along she was a no hope case just as the knowledgeable doctors and her husband had said all along.
i do agree though that the one good thing to come of it will be the emphasis now put on having a living will.

Yeah, learning now how massive the trauma was, it is evident that people were only out to forward their careers and agendas. Interesting to note that there was no physical abuse or chemical harm done, lending credence to the "smear campaign" theory that has been around.
This will also probably help scientists and doctors to identify particular areas where trauma matters and how to identify and diagnose different brain damaged areas and their general effects. Just like how Phynnius (sp) Gauge is still helping modern neural medicine.

It's the media. Just like the Michael Jackson trial, the coverage was suffocating. I blame the average citizen somewhat for buying into it, reading about it, watching the news...but in some instances (this was one) you can't help but be bombarded by it.
Folks are quick to point fingers at the individuals in a case (Michael Schiavo, Michael Jackson...remember Elian Gonzalez?) but geez, you almost have to when it's all that's on.

:stupid: It got way too much coverage. When I see stuff like this, I have to wonder if there are other people going through the same thing, and why don't they get the same media coverage?

Case in point is the missing girl in Aruba. Is she the only missing child in/from the US? Even if you bring up the "young, white, female" arguement, there's still a whole rack of those too. You're right, pretty sad...

That really is a sad story though cause I can understand why the parents wanted to hang on to her and hope cause no one wants to lose a child but I can also see the husbands point as well. It wasnt Terry anymore and never would be again and he would know better than anyone if she would of wanted to kept alive by machines. I know I wouldnt of wanted to be the one to make the decision and I wouldnt want to be kept alive like that either. I just hope that now they can all go on with theirs lives and try to be happy.

Ahem....you forgot "pretty". We only care enough to put them on the news when they're young, white, and pretty. However, "pretty" is sometimes more broadly defined by lonely journalists. ;)

yeh, glad you elaborated more there, because i don't find her very pretty.
at least the photos they keep showing of her, it's like it's a man, man. :gle:
anyway, the media is under fire for it's very uneven coverage of missing persons.
Most of the missing adults tracked by the FBI are men. More than one-in-five of those abducted or kidnapped are black.

Ahh, it's all in the eye of the beholder. I don't think she's a beauty queen either, but some folks will. Blond? 18 years old? White girl? Yup, someone will...

obviously, some folks will. i know of 3 guys specifically who did.
i doubt it will change much either, but at least it's being recognized which says something.
