Great movie! I think it will definitely revive the franchise. The SUV batmobile is a bit cheesy at first but then you really dig it after a while. Christian Bale plays a great Bruce Wayne and the supporting cast, Gary Oldman, Michael Cane, Katie Holms, and others make great additions.

What!?!?!? Clooney was the all-time low Batman! The movie just completely sucked and didn't get anywhere close to being a good batman movie.

Just saw it. Not as good as the original with Keaton, but much much better than all the ones between. I hope they continue this line of batman movies.

If one day I suddenly woke up to find that my penis had shriveled and died, my first thought would be, "Hey Clooney sure did play a HOT batman!" But I still wouldn't think he is a GOOD Batman.

...and the supporting cast, Gary Oldman, Michael Cane, Katie Holms, and others make great additions.... not to mention morgan freeman, tom wilkinson, rutger hauer, and ken watanabe, just to name a few. when i saw the list of supporting cast members, i almost shat myself. of course, i have yet to see the film, so for all i know, some of these people are mere cameos. nevertheless, the fact that such big names (and some great actors, i might add) are in on the project says something about its potential...

And don't forget Chris Nolan as the director . . . you may remember he did Memento . . . has a great style . . . but I wasn't exactly a huge fan of Insomnia.

The first one had edgeiness and style. Even Gotham was a charachter- I loved the look of the city in that one. The scene with the batplane was a throwaway in that one- but otherwise excellent. I heard the new one returns to darkness and more plot subtleties. Some of Bruce Wayne's own demons. Tim Burton is an excellent story teller with great visual intrepetation.

:stupid: Val Kilmer used to be pretty hot (as he gets older, he just keeps getting ugly), but Keaton was definitely the best Batman, and Clooney was the worst. I'm excited to see how Bale does, because he was awesome in American Psycho.

They did a great job with the secondary characters. No over exposure, no stupid lines, and all mastered what they needed to. Rutger Hauer played a good corp CEO. Oldman played a tired Sgt. Gordon that tries to do what is right despite fighting an unstoppable system. Neeson plays a wise mentor and a great plot twister. Katie holms plays more than a pretty face and throw-away "hot chick".
I think Keaton is outmatched by Bale in the role. While I *really* liked Keaton, the city, the image, and yes, the soundtrack, since it was all off-beat, gothic, and fit well, Bale just plays a better acting role.
Personally, it was *far* better than SW:III, and was a better superhero movie than Spiderman 1&2 and X-men.

AFAIK Burton didn't have anything to do with Batman Begins. Christopher Nolan was the director, he did Momento (never watch it).
It is an interesting formula they have caught onto. Small actors with small directors playing old storied and established characters have really hit the spot. X-Men, Spiderman, Lord of the Rings, Batman....

I've heard mix reviews on this one. Generally better than all the other crappy ones except for the first Batman. They says it's long on story and it doesn't get into batman kicking butt action until the last 30 minutes or so. I guess it means it's a very engrossing storyline which would a good change from the all action weak plotline movies.

Yeah, people b!tch about it being over 2hrs and having more setup. But geez, it *IS* Batman Begins and they made sure they didn't fall into the same plotless pit as the rest of them.
Yeah, like everybody wants to just go to a movie, see a bunch of people fight, and then leave. There are a lot more expectations for this franchise than a simple popcorn movie.
Frankly, I'd rather go see a well planned and thought out 2.5 hour movie than a stupid pointless one at 1.75hr.

30 minutes into it I was thinking "wow, they really are setting this up well. I hope they don't get crunched for time in the end" Luckily they gave it the time it needed without feeling like it dragged on.
I like how in this movie, they explained how and where he acquired all his toys. Where as in previous movies it is never touched on.

Just saw it over the 4th weekend. I think he makes a decent Bruce Wayne but a very crappy sounding and looking Batman. The story is defintely better and more solid than the other Batman movies. No ridiculous outlandish costumes and villians either.
Maybe I'm old or I have bad eyesight but why are the fight scenes I see nowadays always so up close, fast and blurry. There were quite a few fight scenes but I just couldn't register in my brain what was going on to fully enjoy it.

... but a very crappy sounding and looking Batman... I agree. When he was in costume it was so tight around his face that it made him look like he was stung bu a bee or something. They needed to get a better fitting mask.

Welcome to Hollywood's trick. When you watch from close up you can't tell that they can't really fight. If you would see it from a distance it would look goofy. Note the difference in style with some Asian martial arts movies. In those they want to show off the fight scenes so they tend to have more full shots. Also the close up shots will make you feel more like you are in the action - they think.

Just saw it over the weekend. I thought it was awesome, although like a few of you I thought that his Batman voice was kinda strange. However, being as that everything else in the movie kicked ASS I am going to just take it as necessary to tell the story that the director wanted to. I would go watch it again, and will definitely buy it when it comes out.

ok...I'm very, very late to the party, but I just saw it on DVD and I really loved it. It's really the perfect Batman movie. Nothing silly, nothing stupid. All the secondary characters play their characters perfectly. Just a well done movie.
Quick question though. and BIG, BIG SPOILER WARNING.
At the end when Katie Holmes (I don't know her character name) says something about Bruce's mask, what the hell does she mean? She doesn't like Bruce anymore? I don't get it.
Btw they're planning this to be a trilogy. Next up is Joker, then Two Face.

I just saw it a few weeks back as well... I thought it was by far the best of the movies. It is what all the other Batman movies should have been IMO...
Bale did a good job... way better than Clooney, Kilmer, or even Keaton I thought. Keaton got screwed because the movie sucked... he was drawn into a bad situation.

Basically, she's saying that Bruce has become a new person... where now "The Batman" persona is the true Bruce Wayne... and the "Playboy" is now the mask... (which we all know that the Playboy image is mostly a sham with Bruce Wayne).
Earlier in the movie, when Bruce had stated that he wanted to kill the guy who murdered his parents, she was appalled that he would stoop to that level (using a gun and such to commit violence), however now with his training he doesn't need to act on their level in order to bring justice to the unjust. (I'm thinkin that is part of the tie in with that latter statement).
As far as the trilogy goes... it's already done.
Jack Nicholson was the Joker (from movie 1) and Tommy Lee Jones was Two Face (from movie 2) This move just fit its role as the "beginning" of the Batman saga.

Apparently from sources I've read, they're remaking the whole genre although at the beginning it seemed like this movie was a prequel and a standalone. Now that it was a smash hit, they want to make more...which hollywood often does with successful movies.
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_Begins
Sequels
Warner Brothers has announced its intentions to make a sequel to Batman Begins with most of the film's main cast, including Christian Bale, returning. This would make Bale the first actor since Michael Keaton (who appeared in the first and second movies) to play Batman more than once. Gary Oldman (James Gordon) and Michael Caine (Alfred Pennyworth) are also under contract to reprise their roles [2]. At this time, director Christopher Nolan and screenwriter David S. Goyer will be returning for the sequels, though Goyer revealed in an interview that he and Nolan have devised a rough scenario for a trilogy, using The Joker as the antagonist in the second film and Two-Face in the third, loosely following the story from Batman: The Long Halloween.
On August 22, 2005, producer Charles Roven denied that any villain had been decided upon, and that the reference to The Joker in the film was only intended as a tip of the hat to the 1989 Batman film [3].

Yeah at first I didn't like his batman voice because it was weird, but then it made a lot of sense and I don't like how the other batmans (Clooney, etc.) just used their normal voice as if no one could recognize them.

As your source says.... the new movies are an "afterthought" due to the success of Batman Begins.... it was originally intended to be just a prequel, hence the latter part of your quoted source above:
On August 22, 2005, producer Charles Roven denied that any villain had been decided upon, and that the reference to The Joker in the film was only intended as a tip of the hat to the 1989 Batman film
Of course if something is "profitable"... Hollywood has no qualms about re-releasing it again and again to make more $$. I'm sure that Jack Nicholson isn't very happy right now (... Go with a smile... :D )

No they are not a couple. The person that she wanted to be a couple with (the original Bruce Wayne before all that stuff happened to him... the kid she grew up with) no longer exists. She doesn't want the playboy Bruce Wayne (doesn't matter, he doesn't exist anyways, he's just a mask) and isn't selfish enough to try to keep Batman for herself... especially since Gotham needs him so badly. He is disappointed but I think he can live with that and they can be friends. Take what I say with a grain of salt though... haven't seen it in a long time and my memory (along with the rest of the world) is kinda fuzzy right now.
