A Marina High School music teacher has been charged with sexually molesting six female students during private singing lessons at the school, authorities said Wednesday.

Victor Rodriguez, 49, is accused of assaulting the girls, ages 14 to 17, by touching their breasts while pretending to show them the locations of their diaphragms, officials said. School officials had formally warned Rodriguez two years ago against using the so-called diaphragm technique to teach singing.

If convicted, Rodriguez — who is free on $50,000 bail — could face up to three years and eight months in prison. His arraignment was continued to July 15. http://www.nbc4.tv/news/4614654/detail.html

LOS ANGELES -- A 49-year-old high school music teacher was charged Wednesday with two counts of a lewd act upon a child and four counts of child annoyance for allegedly victimizing six of his students, according to police.

Authorities said Victor Rodriguez was accused of sexually assaulting six girls between the ages of 14 and 17. Authorities said the alleged assaults occurred during one-on-one singing lessons at Marina High School.The assaults occurred from February 2003 to December 2004, according to a news release from the Huntington Beach Police Department. Police said Rodriguez brought the students to a separate room to critique their voices, then touched them under their shirts while telling them he was pointing out the location of their diaphragms.
Rodriguez posted $50,000 bond. Arraignment was scheduled for July 15 at the West Justice Center in Westminster.

Yeah....it's what you sing with. There's nothing "So-called" about it. If you don't use your diaphragm, you don't get the support you need for singing. And this is why I'm scared to be a music teacher. I can't point ANYTHING out without it being misconstrued. Of course...he could have gone about it a little better than actually touching them.

It's part of being a music teacher to give private lessons. Where else would they want us to teach the kids? Out in the middle of the school yard? Where they won't sing at all because of their friends being there. It's hard enough getting people sing in a choir let alone in public.

Actually, the diaphragm is right under the breasts so it really depends on where he touched their breasts. If he just rubbed against the lower part of their breasts then that sounds reasonable.

The diaphragm thing is semi-reasonable. He should've stopped though. Still, I hope and pray that this is really some huge misunderstanding... He wasn't a bad guy, though not always agreeable, and I hope that it comes out to be nothing. Still, this sucks for him badly.

And this besides the fact that one of his kids still goes to school there.
