ooo, underexposed. when there's a white background, the camera tends to underexpose to try and compensate for all the brightness during metering. that's why that white wall looks grey and dingy. but white walls shouldn't be grey...they should be white. so when you come across a situation like this, try overexposing by 2/3 or 1 stop.
