Saddam loves Doritos (http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/06/21/saddam.guards.ap/index.html)

GQ interviewed the people guarding Saddam, and they shared all sorts of amusing tidbits. My favorite:

For a time his favorite snack was Cheetos, and when that ran out, Saddam would "get grumpy," the story said. One day, guards substituted Doritos corn chips, and Saddam forgot about Cheetos. "He'd eat a family size bag of Doritos in 10 minutes," Dawson said.

:heh: I can see the ads now... "Eat Cheetos! If you eat Doritos, you're supporting Saddam!!"

Oh, and GAM, I didn't really think this was political, but if you think it is please feel free to move it! :)

Did you read the bit too about him giving "fatherly" advice to the soldiers? I was reading in the Washington Post's free daily on the bus this morning that apparently he was giving the unmarried soldiers instructions on how to find women. Of course, he also invited them back to his palace when he rules Iraq again... :disa:

He also offered for them to stay in his palace once he came back into power. Is palace slang for prison now?

wow, i almost feel sorry for him. I think this is the first time he's been projected as being a human, and not the monster that everyone thinks of him as. (not to say he hasn't done bad things)

on a side not: cheetos and doritos are both from the frito-lay company.

You know the marketing guys at F/L are scrambling to see how they can use this one...

Giving it a second of thought, Doritos is junk food, and junk food is a commodity.

Do U.S. prisoners get anything other than cafeteria food? Any candy bars or doritos?

I thought the same thing. It doesn't add up: he gets to eat what he wants (to an extent), but then we scale back things like showers (two per week) and laundry (done in the sink). Are they short on water over there?

The article said Saddam preferred Raisin Bran Crunch for breakfast, telling O'Shea, "No Froot Loops." He ate fish and chicken but refused beef.
Hmmm
