Weird list. Some I agree with, some I don't, and some that aren't even unique quotes!

ahhh, so this is #1:

1. "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn," "Gone With the Wind," 1939.

i do use that frequently or a slight variant of it. :P

I still laugh at this:

79. Striker: "Surely you can't be serious." Rumack: "I am serious ... and don't call me Shirley," "Airplane!", 1980.

And what happened to "How Rude!" by Jar jar ;)

This list is pretty dumb. They have SO many quotes from the same damn movies over and over and over. The AFI also seems to think there hasn't been many movies made in the past oh.......50 years.

Obviously, the person who made this list has a fixation on "Gone with the Wind", "Casablanca", and "The Godfather".

For the simple fact that they didn't include any Blazing Saddles quotes (or other Mel Brooks movie), I must discredit this list. :D

I watched the show last night.

It was neat watching the clips from the older movies. they expanded a bit on why certain things made the list and how.

Yeah definately. It's pretty interesting to see why some quotes are historically important.

The one in particular was "They call me Mister Tibbs". It doesn't make much sense why it's on the list if you don't know the background.

4. "Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore," "The Wizard of Oz," 1939.

HA HA HA, welcome to my world.

Every once in a while I still say the Blazing Saddles variant of this quote when asked for my badge in my company's data center:

36. "Badges? We ain't got no badges! We don't need no badges! I don't have to show you any stinking badges!", "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre," 1948.

I also say this just about every time I bring up a new router, switch, server or PC :heh:

49. "It's alive! It's alive!", "Frankenstein," 1931.

Quite possibly the funniest line from Dr. Strangelove:

64. "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!", "Dr. Strangelove," 1964.

I can see why they chose a lot of those quotes. They have slipped into our vernacular and if you off-handedly say them, many people will know what you're referring to. A good example of this is that at my office there's a guy named Shane. He gets in very early and leaves at 2pm everyday. If I need to talk to him as he's leaving, I quite literally say this:

47. "Shane. Shane. Come back!", "Shane," 1953.

When I say that, probably 8-10 people (older, mind you) start laughing.

"Somebody go back and get me a sh@tload of dimes...."

"Badges... we don't need no stinkin' badges!" :bandit:

"Excuse me... while I whip this out!"

"You use your tongue purtier than a 20 dollar whore".

Those should be on the list. :D

I've never even seen blazing saddles so imo the quotes are meaningless.
Half my quotes come from the endless supply in my simpsons vault, and the other half come from dumb and dumber

No Monty Python?
Others:
"My God! It's full of stars!" 2001: A Space Oddesy
"No Matter Where you go, there you are!" Buckaroo Bonzai
"Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son!" Dean Wormer in Animal House
"Say hello to my little friend!" Scarface

No Monty Python?

:stupid:

Obviously, whoever made this list is not a fan of the geeky movies. No Monty Python, no Office Space, no Princess Bride...

Try this at work - next time you're in a group of computer geeks (they can be IT or developers), just work the title of any Monty Python movie into the conversation. They quotes will start flying around so fast you'll have to duck to get out of there.

Plus these are "movie" quotes... and last I checked the Simpsons was a TV show. :D
