As the title says, I am running a Dell Dimension 4700. From what I recall, it is an Intel 915G. I had to get a new power supply, so I picked up a Coolermaster 380W Power Supply (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=370778). The new power supply appears to have four less power connectors on the piece that connects to the motherboard than the motherboard actually has.

I.e. - Motherboard has 24 connections on it, power supply has 20. (Those aren't the actual numbers, I pulled them out of my ass.)

So I connected the power supply where it would fit into the motherboard, just to see if it would power on, and it does. The system is up and running right now and four of those connectors aren't hooked up.

I'm...confused.

from the link you provided, it seems that the power supply that you bought is atx 1.3 compliant.

Fully supports Intel ATX 12V V1.3 for Intel and AMD systems.if your motherboard has a 24-pin lead-in connector, it should be atx 2.0 compliant. i seem to recall that the new atx 2.0 standard is backward compatible with older standards, so there should be no problems there. i would think that, if it powers on, it should be fine. sometimes, motherboard manufacturers ship out their motherboards and cover the 4 extra pins if it has a 24-pin atx lead-in connector like this motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128269) in case people want to use their older 20-pin power supplies.

And that's what I thought....the power supply I purchased also states it should have come with the 24-pin connector, but it didn't. Something I will have to most likely take up with zipzoomfly.com.

Well according to the cooler master site, the pin should look like this...

So you are saying you don't have another wire that says "P12"?

Correct. I posted this thread before I really did any troubleshooting, it was part Rant.

Why not call Cooler Master... to find out if you have an "earlier version" of the product.

ZipZoomFly may not have known about that... and I didn't see that listed as an advertised feature on their site.

Apparently it is not supposed to come with the V2.0 extension. Zipzoomfly will refund my cash, however they won't give me credit so I can get another power supply cross shipped. Gotta wait at least a week now if I want to go through Zipzoomfly.com. :censored:

So I have been doing some experimenting to find out exactly why the system has been over heating. I got a new power supply, Antec V2.0 430W. Works great.

Still over heating though. So I pulled everything, just plugged in the proc, memory and motherboard, the chipset is still over heating.

Hmmmm.....

Unplug the 12V connector off the board....over heating stops. Interesting...

I'm open to suggestions now!

well you don't technically need the 12V connector if the mobo also has a 4pin standard connector slot. Are you sure your motherboard doesnt have a short or something? Noticed any degredation of performance?

Just an idea,

I lifted the board out of the case to check for a possible short due to touching the case or something and I got the same results.

The computer won't boot without the 12V connector. Intel 915G Motherboard.

This is also the second board that is doing this, so it's not a motherboard problem.

Dell has already sent me a new motherboard, proc, memory, video card and power supply.

So I am kinda stuck at this point.
