both cams are small, both are light, and both are 5 MP...but i was GROSSLY dissapointed in the sony T7...being a previous owner of two other cybershots (the last one being a p92 -> 5MP) i expected at least equal performance.

problems with the sony...daytime shots are excellent, so are close ups...but once you get into using the zoom or shots that require the flash, there was a tremendous amount of noticable noise in the pictures...it was so bad i had to dig up all my old digi-pics to make sure i wasn't seeing stuff. so even with other digi pics there is a little noise in the background where the flash doesn't reach very well, but with the T7 it was really noticable....so i decided to return it and traded it for the canon SD400

my buddy already has it and he loves it, i've only finally got the battery charged, and of the "test" pictures i'm sure i made the right decision. the noise is considerably reduced, especially when comparing shots from the different cams. the fact that it's cheaper, as well as cheaper media seals the deal...

once i play around with it more and master all the functions i'll update...

but the point of this thread is....DO NOT BUY the T7....it is not worth the money...the size is great, but the trade off isn't worth it..IMO

Sony used to rule electronics, now they are near the bottom in most categories of consumer electronics. Most people don't like them anymore.

Pretty much... Sony pushes their "proprietary accessories" too much (storage and media). :2far:

I still like Sony in other areas though... (home theater/stereo) :thumb:

*waves a PS3 in front of your nose*

Sony's still at the front of the electronics industry, they've outsourced most of their electronic divisions to OEM manufacturers that just plain suck for the most part. The REAL Sony is still years ahead of the game.

Note the co-development of the Cell processor, and the Fugly new PS3, which wow's me if I can manage to remove the casing w/out voiding any warranties hehe.

More or less... I really think that they are referring to other consumer electronics like digital cameras, camcorders, and other "more generic use" gadgets...

The Playstation series is an exception mainly because outside of the "Big 3" (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) nobody else really has muscled their way into that market.

Do tell, other than PS2/3 and PSP, what constitutes as the "real" Sony electronics?

sony stereo equipment sucks IMHO. Their wattage ratings are grossly exaggerated when compared to HK, Denon, etc. I do like their DVD players, and their wegas, but beyond that, i wouldnt buy anything else. SACD = flop. UMD = will flop, Memory Stick, Memeory Stick Duo = flop

canon, oly, nikon, and minolta is the way to go

:stupid:

I think Sony is still living back in the 80's when they were way ahead of their competition & think they can do no wrong. I can't recall the last time I bought anything from Sony, and I can't think of anything they make that I would want to buy. Maybe one of those Aibo robot dogs (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/LC_BrowseCatalog-Start;sid=lihL4o1f8S1L-M_j_oFB6cJSCer3OzCiinc=?CategoryName=lc_AIBO), but that's about it.

Sony also makes cell phones, or rather Sony bought Ericsson and now they make cell phones. I believe some arent that bad. Camcorders and memory sticks are their other larger items.
And I don't personally think the WEGA's are that bad.
See, Sony makes a few other things aside from ps2/3 and psp.

Why would someone pay for a Sony TV when he/she could get the same quality TV from Panasonic or Toshiba for less?

i have a wega (27 inch flat tube)...i personally thought it was worth the extra dough compared to the others...although the panasonic was a close second....

generally i first try to pick a group of dependable brands...narrow down to one or two models i'd get and then READ READ READ reviews...focusing mostly on any bad reviews to see what any complaints were.

in this case i was foiled by the reviews, so what can i say? either way, i am enjoying the canon....

My fricking 27" WEGA broke after just slightly over 1 year of usage. :disa: The darn board was burned and it would cost over $250 to fix. I just threw that junk away.

damn, you got the sh*t end of the stick on that tv, sorry. My parents have a WEGA upstairs in one of the rooms, I wasnt around when they bought it, they just did...
Compared to my 1987 Panasonic ColorTV, the WEGA isnt that bad :P
hehe

See, what I was trying to say before was that Sony no longer makes top-end stuff as they used to. The items you cited are still made by Sony but in no way are they considered to be top-notch (with the exception of camcorders, maybe) in their respective categories by experts.

By the way, it's Ericsson who makes the phones, not Sony. Sony's stake on Ericsson I believe remains strictly financial and nothing overly technical. It's just now branded SonyEricsson.

i dunno, personally i still like sony's for flat tube tv's (like the wega's) but not for the projections or the lcd's/plasma. i used to be real big on their camera's and camcorders but now i'm leaning towards canon for that. so in essence, i believe their market share is slipping and they may be just relying on their "brand" to jusitfy the added mark up price. there are other products that surpass what sony has to offer...
