I've been harping on my hubby to get a better job so we can have health insurance and more money. He's a server at Bennigan's restaraunt in Mission Valley (San Diego) and he's been there for about 5 years. Today, I was talking on the phone with him and he said that his boss just offered him a managment position! I can't believe it! I'm so happy! :woohoo:

There is at least 1 Bennigan's here in Wichita still. :) Just a couple of miles from me. We've lived here 2 years and been twice. We never think about it. :|

I like eating there. Especially their Monte Cristo. :lick: There's just something about a deep fried club sandwich with powdered sugar sprinkled over it and a grip of fries. Hmmm, heart attack on a platter.

Bleh. Ended up going to Old Chicago. Ben's was full (only booths & bar available and don't like either of those) and no place to sit and wait the 15 mins for a table. F' that. :P

MMMMmmmmm - the Monte Cristo....

Don't listen to those health nuts - you can make almost ANYTHING better by deep frying it.

Of course, you don't want to have more than, say, *one* of these per year unless you want to be on the heart transplant waitlist.

He loves working there. He's been there for 5 1/2 years, and never really showed any ambition to leave the place. Now, he doesn't have to!

Alright, check this out. Last Friday, Tim went into work, and there's this A$$HOLE of a bartender. I swear, he's a walking p#cker. Some guy went in and tried to buy a beer from the bartender (Steve) and he noticed that even though he was of age, his ID was expired. He told the guy no, and the guy sat in Tim's section. Tim failed to notice that the ID was expired, ordered the beer from Steve (the pr!ck), and instead of being a team player and letting Timmy know that he already checked the ID and it was expired, he ran to the GM (Dan) and ratted Timmy out., Steve told Dan that Tim ordered a beer for a guy whose ID was expired. Dan then screamed at Tim, telling him that if he wasn't such a veteran, he'd be fired on the spot. :censored:

Well, Tim's been stressing out about it, knowing that this would affect his promotion. Today, he saw Dan, and Dan told him to join him out back. I guess Dan told Timmy that for the first few days, Dan WAS NOT going to promote him after all. But he's had time to cool off, and decided that since Timmy's only made one mistake in the 6 years he's been there, he's not going to hold that against him, and that he'll be meeting with the owners on Tuesday to bump Tim up to manager. *whew* Thank God Dan's got compassion! I really wanted to find Steve and bash his face in. Now I don't have to do that. Oh, and it appears that Steve's pretty pissed that Tim got the promotion. Good! Maybe when Tim moves up to management, he can fire Steve's @ss.

Gothic Girl

How do you figure? IMO, Tim got revenge against Steve by still being able to make manager. It seems like Steve didn't want Tim to move up, and was setting him up for failure.

I hate to be the one to point this out, but the story does not add up. IF the guy had a real drivers license, even if it was expired, it would prove his age. There is no requirement that a license be not expired to show your age. I have friends who live in the areas where they never drive and as such they have accidentially let their license lapse. Never had an issue when showing his old ID, its clearly him and the license is real.

Thus, either the guy showed something such as a military ID that isnt considered valid (or at least they dont consider them valid in PB/OB/Downtown), it was not a real license, or there was a question as to whether he was the true license holder. Such as a license from when he was 16 with a picture of a little goofy kid with brown eyes, glasses and a red hair helment when the guy handing it over has blue eyes, brown hair, and no glasses.

So what is the real story......was it a question of the guy passing off a fake ID that happened to be expired or something else?

Gothic Girl

Nope, it was just a regular ID that had lapsed, and it did belong to him. But I myself have worked for a couple convenient stores that sold hard liquor, and they would not accept expired IDs. I guess they figure that if they're expired, they're no longer valid, whether the person is of age or not. And when I worked for 7-11 right across from SDSU, I was told by the manager that expired IDs were not valid, and that if I was caught selling to someone with an expired license by ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) we'd get a huge fine, which would lead to my dismissal.

ABC does in fact go out to a lot of bars, restaraunts, and liquor stores trying to bust the bartenders, waiters, and cashiers. They will send kids in who are under age, people with expired licenses, and people with fake IDs to check and make sure the server, etc is doing their job correctly. It sucks, but everytime Tim's had a run in with ABC, he's always passed with flying colors.

Q. 74. What is documentary evidence of age and identity?

A. To be suitable as evidence for a defense, the identification card must be issued by a governmental agency and have a current description and a picture of the person presenting it which reasonably describes the person as to date of birth weight, height, sex and color of eyes and hair. No defense will exist if the card has obviously been altered or has expired. A registration certificate issued under the Federal Selective Service Act is no longer considered documentary evidence of age, identity and date of birth. (Section 25660)
http://www.abc.ca.gov/questions/enforcement_faq.html

I'm not saying Tim wasn't in the wrong here, but I just think it would've been nice for the bartender to be a team player and point out to Tim that the guy's license was expired before running to the GM and blabbing.

Must be another idiotic California thing. This state really needs to just fall into the ocean and be done self destructing.

:heh: :stupid: I agree. Hopefully Tim'll be able to use his management training and move onto another restaraunt so we can move somewhere where we can actually own a home.

I don't think it's just CA. If I remember right, (it has been 4 yrs since my training for NV) the same rule applies here. And if I go further back into my memory (God, help us all), the same was true in 1995 in IL.

I am glad that the Mgr realized that one mistake can and will happen. I am sure that he (mgr) has made similar mistakes too. :)

They have the best Monte Cristo sandwiches around. At least thats what my friends tell me. I can,t get into eating a deep fries sand covered with jelly.
I always have their fish and chips which are good. There is also a Bennigans in Castle Rock Colorado but they allow smoking in the restaurant. So we didn't eat there. :)

Must be another idiotic California thing. This state really needs to just fall into the ocean and be done self destructing.Don't get me started on CA, otherwise this'll just become a Political Thread.

I will however say this because it's been on my mind for the past couple of hours, and this I hope doesn't rile anyone politically.
The gun drop test requirements are arguably just a way for the state to make money off of gun makers, especially considering that they require a drop test for each make and model sold. This sounds fine to some people until they find out that this includes different color options on the same gun. Wanted a 1911 that was blued a darker hue and thus has a different color but is identical otherwise? New drop test requirements.
