i think there are 7200rpm hitachi drives that are a bit over ~$150. from what i hear, it's definitely a good idea to get a 7200rpm drive for a laptop. :)

I am not sure if 7200 rpm is always the way to go, since they run gotter than 4600? rpm standard units and laptops sometimes have marginal cooling systems.

Anyway, catch ComputerGeeks when they have their Midnite or Sunrise sales. They generally have good prices on those days.

Is your current drive stull under warranty? Have you tried to get it replaced?

If you need to buy one, Newegg is a good place for laptop drives - here's yours for $92 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822146042

It's sometimes hard to find a 7200RPM drive - I dunno if they're in high demand, or they don't make enough of them or what, but Dell & Newegg seem to sell out pretty quickly when they get them in. But yeah, your HD is probably the biggest bottleneck in your laptop. If you've got the cash for it, 7200 is the way to go.

7200 rpm drives use a significantly higher ammount of power. If battery life is important to you, stick the the 5400 rpm.
