For anyone who's signed up for the dividends card, here's some news.
they advertise 5% back on gas purchases & supermarkets. my buddy's been using it for a few years now, but just realizes he's been getting only 1% on both.
So he called up the CSR. they told him he wasn't getting it back on gas because he was paying at the pump. if you pay at the pump, the code that they send to citibank is diff from the code they send from inside the store with the cashier. So...you can get 5% only if you pay inside. - major suckage.
the csr couldn't tell him anything about why he wasn't getting 5% on groceries, but...yeah. "they'll get back to him" yeah right!
I was going to switch to using this card after i paid my balance transfer, but now, i'm stickin with my amex blue card.

I still can't get info on why I'm being charge a finance fee of a dollar a month for not carrying a balance on my Amazon Visa card. I was using it earn amazon points but the time it takes to accrue 25 bucks GC I would unneccessarily pay 15 bucks in finance fees. I need a new Visa card...until then it's all Amex.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Dude...I've explained it! You DON'T get charged ANYTHING for not carrying a balance. If you do carry a balance, the minimum finance charge will be $1.

During the first 2 billing periods I have got 5% cash back on my gas, grocery, and pharmacy purchases. I have a billing period that is going to end next week so I will know very soon if they are trying to screw me too.
Thanks for the heads up.

Ive been using mine for well over a year and always pay at the pump... I've never gotten anything less than 5% back.

I just got the Student Dividend card and checked my rewards balance online after paying for gas at the pump. Only 1%. :(

The extra 4% is only added on when your statement comes out. At least from what I saw that is how it works. Hopefully it works out for you. :)

Between my Citibank Dividends card (mainly use it for 5% off groceries), 5% Discover Gas rebate card, and another card that give 1% on everything, I probably get $600 or more back each year. So how much does your check card pay you?

That is exactly why I use credit cards. Well....I also use them to keep my good credit rating but $500+ is a nice "bonus" for using my cards.

I probably got about $300-$400 back last year for using the Chase Freedom Mastercard (5% on gas and 1% on everything else).

Isn't the freedom card only 3% cash back on gas?

I redeemed almost $5000 in vehicle cash from my GM card before they killed the program. That one was worth its weight in gold...

My card used to be a Chase Shell MC until Shell switched to Citibank. After that it becomes a Chase Freedom MC and I still get 5% on gas at any station and 1% on everything else. New card probably only gives 3% instead of 5%.

The when I signed on a number of years ago for the Citibank Dividend card I have they paid a 2% rebate on all purchases (and I don't think there was an annual limit on how much you got back). Later they imposed a $300 annual rebate, then changed the program to 5% on gas and groceries and 1% on everything else ($300 annual limit). I recently noticed on my Citibank statement that I have received something like $4500 back since I started.

That's odd. You must have fell through the cracks b/c I had the same thing (shell MC to freedom card) and I only receive 3% on gas purchases. That is good for you. :)

5% is like saving $0.13 on every gallon. Why settle for $0.05 when you can get $0.13? Furthurmore, as the prices go up you get more back.
For you check card users ... how far out of your way do you usually drive to save a few cents on gas?

You can link your CC to your speedpass and then you get the 5% off (for using your rewards CC) and an extra $.05/gal off (for using your exxon speedpass). :)

I usually pump gas at where most convenient for me. I'm lucky that there are gas stations near my house or my wife's house with decent prices. :D

I just use CostCo gas. Instead of a rebate I pay 5 to 20 cents less a gallon in the first place.

Holy crap you're right!
Balance - $3,239.05
Rebates Earned - Total Div Dollar Earned This Period 32.39
Those mother f'ers! I'm calling them right now! Still on hold...! I'm pissed because I had a Shell CCard that immediately gave me 5% off my gas and then I started using this card so I somehow lost 4% for quite awhile!

Uhm, ok they tried to explain it to me. Apparently they give you the 1% and then on gas/supermarket they give you an "additional" credit that you don't see anywhere but it adds into your balance. Gonna have to watch this MUCH closer!

They do add it on I have been following my div $ balance for the past 3 months. They usually add that on *after* the billing period is over.

Around here costco and sam's cost as much if not a couple cents more than the cheapest gas station on my way to/from work. And the cheapest gas stations around me are a BP, Exxon, and royal farms.

I thought that too, untill I figured out that I was getting an extra 2 mpg with the CostCo gas compared to the crap AMCO gas.

I find that, unfortunately, I get the best gas milage with Exxon or BP gas around here. It dissapoints me that Sam's and Costco gas around here is not really discounted.
I think I am going to sign up for the Exxon speedpass so I can get the extra $.05/gal off.
