Australia's Naughtiest Home Videos
1993 comedy series spun off from Australia's Funniest Home Video Show, hosted by Doug Mulray. This show was actually cancelled during its first episode. Nine Network owner Kerry Packer purportedly personally telephoned the station, telling them to "Get that **** off the air". After a commercial break, a re-run of a Cheers episode was aired instead.

Darn.. I missed that one!

I remember when that show was on because it created a huge negative backlash in the adoptee community. Being one myself I thought it was in horrendously bad taste. Considering which network it was on, should we be surprised by a show like that? :2far:

I had seen ads for it, but I just seerched for it and apparently it did get the axe. All before ever airing.

Yeah, here's why:

"The decision comes as the result of pressure from such advocacy groups as the Family Research Council, the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) over the show's perceived inflammatory content.

...

At issue was the initial prejudices of said community which the show hoped to alleviate over the course of the competition. Among the examples: one man makes a crack about the number of children piling out of the Hispanic family's car and displays of affection between the gay men provoke disgust. ABC's press materials however made the show's intentions clear: "But with every encounter with these families, the opinionated neighbors' pre-conceived assumptions and prejudices are also chipped away, and they learn that, while on the outside we may appear different, deep inside we share many common bonds. The judges find themselves learning to see people, not stereotypes.""

IMO, it's ridiculous. But so as not to pick a fight with anyone about oversensitivity, I'll stop there. ;)
