i was just thinking, and wondered if id marry someone i already know/met, as opposed to a new person you run into, or will meet.
and since theres a bunch of you already married, is your wife/husband someone you knew for a long time? or just dated and married.

I'm sure I have or my wife would kill me.
We dated for 4.5 years (not by choice) but due to long distance and graduate schools being far apart. Married 8 years this August.

just dated and soon to be married in 2 months. Graf and I met in school, dated for 2 1/2 years before he proposed.

My husband and I were friends before we dated. We were actually coworkers, lost touch for a couple years, and then one day I saw him when I was walking to my apartment. It was pretty cool because we've been together since that day, 5 years ago. We'll be married 4 years this October.

I've told this story several times but will tell it again for fun's sake. :D
I got an email chain letter from an acquaintance during the middle of my first semester of college down in Oklahoma. I was reading through the list of other people that had gotten it sent to them and saw a Scott in Kansas and thought it'd be fun to say hello since we were so close. That was beginning to mid-November, 1995. We began emailing back and forth then talking on the phone for hours (our record was about 6 1/2) and fell in love before ever meeting in person when he came down to Oklahoma to see me just after Christmas. He proposed the weekend after Valentine's Day, I moved up to Kansas with him in mid-April. Then when that semester was over for him in May, he went home to his family's house to work & save up money and I went back to Oklahoma to work & plan the wedding. We got married August 17, 1996. We'll have been married 9 years this coming August. :)

My wife and I met in May, started dating in August, and were married the following February. That's 235 days from "How do you do" to "I do". We're still married after 20 years.

:stupid: I've pretty much managed to alienate every female in my life so if I do marry someone that I alreaday know, she's not going to be happy about it.

gosh alot of you hope you havent met the person yet?
i hope i already know the person, just cause it would save me alot of time and energy.
i think you need to know the person really well before you get married, or it'll end up in divorce since people wont compromise nowadays...
but im sure there are exceptions with a few

I think of it like alzheimers. Sooner or later you'll find out but hopefully by then you'll be either dead or too demented to care.

i was refering to those who said
"I know one person I could spend the rest of my life with, but chances are that won't happen. Maybe I'll meet someone in the future. "
Just because I could spend the rest of my life with a person doesn't necessarily mean they want to spend the rest of their life with me.

We skipped the "lived together" part. So I'm hoping we avoid the "divorced" part too.

The problem with the people that you do know is that a lot of times there are reasons why you guys didn't get together to begin with or why you guys broke up. There is usually some bad blood, some resentment, something... between you guys which while it can be covered up in the whirl of romance isn't always the easiest thing to resolve. It's like buying an old house with some damage... sometimes it's easier to fix the damage, sometimes it's just easier to knock the sucker down and build from scratch, and sometimes it's easier to live outside and take your chances with the wolves.

I imagine it just procrastinates it. (e.g. living together drives people nuts married or unmarried)

Oh, and I thought of a way funnier answer to this question: Yes, and I banged her sister.
