The Movies suck compared to the books because they had to cut things out. But overall the movies do a good job of sticking with the books. A lot better than some.

I'd say the first two were a LOT better than the third in this regard -- makes me worried about the Goblet of Fire movie.

True.. because the Goblet of Fire and the Order of the Pheonix are MUCH longer books... they'll have to cut out a lot more stuff.

Good luck! I heard today that now there's a waiting list. A WAITING LIST! For a kid's book!

it's hype. I've never had any problem picking up a new harry potter book at target on the day it came out, without any lines, and usually for about 14 bucks. All the preordering and lines and waiting lists is hype.

I preordred it back in January, I couldn't help myself - it's my literary junk food

Why am I not excited for this book?

2 summers ago when Book 5 came out I went to the grocery store half drunk at midnight to buy it. Now I barely care to get it at all. Maybe it's WoW...

I am totally jazzed about the upcoming release! I may or may not be in line at Midnight on Friday. If I happen to have Saturday morning off, I'll be out in Pacific Beach or Downtown San Diego ("the Gaslamp") getting into trouble on the dance floor... women beware :naughty:!

Anyway, back to the G-rated topic on the table, I had to read HP #1 for a college English class @ Grossmont College. I fell in love with the series and have read every book (I'd seriously doubt that many people finish Book 1 and don't read the rest (much to the satisfaction of Rowling & Scholastic!)). I then proceeded to read the Lord of the Rings series and enjoyed that as well.

On the topic of the films, I think the opposite of GuruX. I was kinda dissapointed with the first two HP films, but was more impressed with The Prisoner of Azkaban. All 3 pretty closely followed the book, but I felt the first 2 movies cut too much out (like Peeves the Poltergeist). I was more satisfied with #3 for some reason. I guess I felt that the stuff Curon cut out wasn't too crucial and the movie was still enjoyable as is.

One thing that I can't understand: Why doesn't Warner Bro.s go the LOTR route and release special director's cuts of the HP movies after the original versions come out? All the Potter enthusiasts would likely buy the original version on DVD and the special edition (as long as it was at least 20 minutes longer than the original) too. More money for minimal extra effort!

I am very concerned about how badly they will cut up #4 coming this winter... I thought I had heard mumblings about splitting Goblet of Fire (and all subsequent ones probably) into 2 films kinda like they did with Matrix 2 & 3. Again, twice as much money...

I'm currently reading 'The Big Nowhere' by James Ellroy. I just finished one of his other novels, 'LA Confidential'. Harry Potter books really don't hit it with me.

Yeah, I'd challenge any of you to borrow your girlfriend's (or just buy one) copy of Harry Potter 1 and read through it. Open your mind up a little to the possibility that you may enjoy it and you'll see what us "nuts" are so excited about. It's a pretty easy read and could probably be done in a day or two. Just my take...

Oh, I have no doubt that they are good and that I would probably enjoy them.

And I probably will read them when Josh is old enough to. Just not interested atm. heh

Yea I know I would like them, just no time to start the series currently with work, sopranos series 5 (watching all seasons 1-4 now to refresh memory before starting on 5), and I am reading the dark tower series from stephen king.

Maybe I will try to start Harry Potter on vaca in August!

Comic Con is coming to San Diego this weekend and will include an exclusive preview of HP4. Should be cool! Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron are also scheduled to appear live, so you know I'll be there!

9 hours and counting for those of you in the Pacific time zone!

And Gear02, like I said a while ago, send me some of that $2.21 gas! We're paying $2.50+ for regular here in San Diego!

I'm with you on liking Azkaban better. The first two movies were typical Christopher Columbus popcorn family flicks. The third movie was darker and to me was much closer to the spirit of the book. Cuaron has guts. It'll be interesting to see what Newell brings to the table.

Yeah, I finished mine on Sunday. This really is the best book of the series. Much darker than the rest. I can't wait for book 7. It's going to be VERY interesting me thinks. (yup, I'm a nerd.) :)
