Chan Says Tucker Holding Up 'Rush Hour 3'

By The Associated Press Sat Jul 9,10:31 PM ET

HONG KONG -
Jackie Chan says the third installment of "Rush Hour" is stuck in neutral because co-star
Chris Tucker is making too many demands.

"He wants too much power. The movie company hasn't obliged. He wants final editing rights and the final look at the movie and so on," Chan told The Associated Press Thursday.

Chan called Tucker a "good friend" but questioned whether he had the stature to be so demanding.

"He's still a new actor," Chan, 51, said. "How many movies has he made? Two movies have already made him very famous and made him a lot of money."

"He needs to learn slowly," he added.

A call by The Associated Press to Tucker's publicist, Samantha Mast, wasn't returned Friday.

While "Rush Hour 3" remains in limbo, Chan said he's going ahead with another project — one with famed Chinese director Zhang Yimou. Zhang's recent films include "House of Flying Daggers" and "Hero."

Chan declined to reveal details of the movie, saying only that it would be "galvanizing" and is set in the 1980s. He said the idea is his, but Zhang will work on the script.

"He relies on imagination ... like an arrow flying through water," said Chan. "He has elevated the martial arts genre. I believe he can make any type of movie now."

A very watch my toes statement to make by Jackie about Chris. I don't think the statement about Chris acting credits will go over well.

:stupid:

But to Jackie's credit, Chris is still a relative n00b.

Well, let's count the number of movies Tucker has been in that have given him a name in the industry:

Friday
Rush Hour
Rush Hour 2
Moneytalks
Fifth Element

None of these movies were really groundbreaking, just your typical comedy/action flick. Chan is right, Tucker needs to take it slow and generate a reputation before he starts asking for more power and control. In due time, in due time.

Chris Tucker is just another in a long list of Celebrities who need to get over themselves. It's not like he is out there making Academy Award winning movies. He is making fluff, action flicks. And getting paid pretty damn well for it. Sir Lawrence Olivier he isn't. :wavey:

Friday was ground breaking in my opinion. One of the smartest, best directed comedies in a long time.

Oh I agree he hasn't been in a laundry list of movies. I think the 5th Element was cult-ish movie but his role in it is small. I just think Jackie shouldn't have called Chris Tucker out like that in public. It'll hurt Chris more than Jackie since Jackie has a steady movie gig.

I thought it was going to say because Chris is still working over his legal battles from the video we all saw :D

Feh, I doubt that this statement did anything but make it public knowledge. I am pretty sure crap that actors pull like this gets passed around the industry much faster than we'd imagine. Diva titles, stupid contract requirements, and jerk behavior by actors create a "rep" which I am sure everybody in Hollywood knows.

Jackie has been around for a long time and has endured many pains for his profession, whether it is acting or martial arts. He has the t-shirts, hats, and most importanty scars to prove it.

Tucker should STFU and deal with what he is given. He isn't anywhere near the artist that Chan is and he probably never will be. Furthermore, he doesn't have the Hollywood cred to go around acting like a prima donna.

Are you sure it wasn't delayed by prayer? Like mine, for instance?

Heh... I'm sure that Jackie Chan can go rustle up "Owen Wilson" to take his place. :heh:

BTW... why does it matter... some people will pay to see Chris Tucker act silly and some won't. He's already a rich man and probably really doesn't care.

Hell... he didn't even sign on to do the 2 sequels to Friday and that franchise still survived... albeit they woulda been MORE funny if CT had been involved.
But them's the breaks again... Oh well...

They also would have been more funny if F. Gary Gray would have directed them. Part 2 and 3 were both contrived. Mike Epps did do a pretty good job though.

See? The Lord is listening!

And I'm with eSDee on the original Friday being really great stuff. I've seen parts of 2, and I would actively avoid seeing 3.

I didn't say that. But then, He isn't the one causing problems .What I said was, he needs to get over thinking he's some Hollywood hotshot. His movies are fine- as are Jackie Chans. BUT, Jackie isn't the reason the movie is at a standstill. I don't believe the article said any thing about Jackie Chan playing the prima donna. And so my comments were aimed at Chris Tucker. :disa:

Yeah, I know... but hey, like I was saying before, Rush Hour is not the ONLY series that CT has done this to. Therefore, he's made it known that if they want him to continue in it, then they gotta pay him what he wants.

Other franchises have moved on with other comedians (ala "Friday"). Other actors have done similar things.. Vin Diesel comes to mind... (Fast And Furious & XXX)

More or less... they have their own mindset as to how much their appearing in a flick will be worth. Of course you and I as movie watchers may disagree with them.

I say... if they wanna be that way... then fine. When folks stop knockin' on their doors down to do projects, then they'll either change their ways... or they'll continue bask and wallow in their past acheivements. Either way... the credits will roll without them if need be.

BTW... I think CT got more things to worry about... Driving fast through Georgia comes to mind. :heh:
