Hello everyone,

I am in need of some quick advice and need a decision by the end of the workday today.

Outline:
I'm taking 2 courses in 6-week summer session at my university. I just called my math professor and found out I got the lowest score on my first test, albeit it's a 35/60 (58%). I'm also taking an in-major senior level class in ECE (electrical engineering). Here's my assessment:

Facts:
1) I only need 9 credits to graduate this fall, and need 12 to be full time, so I can retake this course in the fall, and it won't cost me any more than it would if I didn't take it.
2) I will be homeless for one week in August, my lease is up at my current apartment and the lease starts at the new place one week later. Major stress anticipated during the moving time.

If I drop the course:
1) I get $315 refund. It's paltry, but it's something.
2) Easier time focusing on my ECE class with its tests and projects

If I keep the course:
1) I have to get B+ and A's on all of the tests and final to get a B or higher (my goal for courses)
2) I can take an easy freshman filler class to get to 12 credits in the fall.

I feel bad only getting $300 back on a $3600 investment for 2 classes (would have cost $2000 for only taking one class), but it's almost like it's going to cost $9000 in the fall no matter what, so I could take it then, only my semester would be harder.

What do I do?? What would you do? I need to decide today.

The question you have to ask yourself is whether you can make the grades on the rest of the tests? Why did you do bad? Was it because you are too busy getting busy? Or was it because you just dont get the material? Or because the lazy hazy days of summer distracts you from your goal?

When I was in college I had a situation which was opposite to yours. In my spring semester, as usual I took over a full load (6 classes) including a Physiological psychology course. For whatever reason that Physio class was royally kicking my arse and after 2 tests I wasnt happy with my grade. I decided to drop it like a bad habit, which lowered my course load to the normal amount. Then in Summer A, I signed up for the Physio course again. This time I ended up with an A, scoring high on every test.

Most people I know who have issues with classes dont do better by taking it with more classes. By definition your attention is going to be even further divided.

Honestly, I think you need to really examine WHY you did badly? Did everyone get their arse handed to them or only you? I had one class where no one scored above 60%.......officially everyone failed, but due to the requisite curve the grades all came up. The prof chastized everyone for doing so badly but then admitted that he might have made the test a bit tougher than he had anticipated.

To keep my scholarship I had to register for 12 credits. Later I would drop a class and have 9 credits for a class. I didn't do this every semester. Do you need to be full time in the fall for any reason like keeping a scholarship? I liked to not jam myself up with classes in the last semester and concetrate on graduating and looking for jobs.

I just dropped it. I realized the only disadvantage is that my fall semester won't be a cake walk.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate your help. :thumb:
