United, American Ease Mile Requirements on Short Flights
BOTH UNITED AIRLINES AND AMERICAN AIRLINES have slashed the number of frequent-flyer miles needed to get tickets on short-haul flights.
United Mileage Plus members can now get roundtrip economy tickets on flights of 750 air miles or less for 15,000 Mileage Plus miles, down from 25,000 miles; the deal is good between July 15 and Dec. 31. Examples of flights that would qualify include Chicago-New York, Washington, D.C.-Toronto, and Los Angeles-Las Vegas. The deal applies to flights on United, United Express, or Ted.
American Airlines AAdvantage members also can get tickets on flights of 750 air miles or less for 15,000 miles; moreover, customers can get first-class tickets on these flights for 30,000 miles, a savings of 15,000 miles.
The American deal is good for travel between Sept. 1, 2005 and Feb. 28, 2006 on American Airlines, American Eagle, or AmericanConnection flights.
