I imagine it would be expensive as heck. Each key would have it's own little LCD to send data to and power. Additionaly, the key would have to survive being pressed 100's or 1000's of times a day.

after thinking about it some, it could be done.

the keys could be clear, and have a magnifying lens integrated. Behind the actual keys, there could be one large LCD. this lcd then could be independent of each key.

They could also use something like the apple cube used for the power button. It detects your finder when its close enough to the sensor. there is no button. In this case, it could be strong enough that it could differentiate between a non pressed and a pressed key.

yea i saw this on another board.

ribitch's idea makes sense... but i wouldnt like the "0uttons" not being buttons anymore. that would really bug me. i would prefer having buttons that actually go down.

too bad it's going to be super expensive :(

Ribitch, you'd probably want one without the "blue e" logo

actually, thats setup for a mac. They have mac apps on there, as well as the apple option and command keys :D

what i was thinking is making the buttons feel like normal buttons. They would have to be pressed to trigger the sensor. otherwise, it would be a pain in the ass to type on.

i wonder if we will ever see anything like the available on the market. it would be costly at first, but i think it definitely could be done, and the cost could become low with enough nerds drooling over it.

I'm sure that's the general idea for it.

You could use electronic ink as the background for the keys. I think it only uses two colors now, but it doesn't use a lot of power. You could possibly use OLED displays, but it would be very expensive.

If I would say cheapest the keyboard could ever be, I would say $350.

According to the website

It will cost less than a good mobile phone.

I guess it depends on what they mean by good. For example, a RAZR V3 retails for $499 with a street of $149 (w/ req'd contract). This ain't going to be cheap but neither was my DiNovo Keyboard and I still bought it. The KB is defintely cool.
