prog to fill out pdfs

i need to fill out some grad school applications, but theyre supplied in pdf form. i know i can fill in info using acrobat reader, but it doesnt let me save what i typed in. is there a program that will let me save what i typed into the form so i can do it a little at a time?

no freebie programs out there? if not..is it worth forking out about $70-80 to buy acrobat 7 ( i think) from the school bookstore? i just need it so that i can fill out my grad school apps.
