Wow, I've never seen cans explode from heat.
Consider renting a steam cleaner. I imagine that would get the sugar out fast.

i had that happen with one can. oddly, the upholstry was not sticky at all. it seemed to soak so deep that it was impossible to notice from the surface
i just noticed its diet soda...it shouldnt be sticky at all.

Remove the seats from the car. Some of the cleaning products you will want to use will fade/stain your vinyl/plastic.
As far as a good surface cleaner, spotshot is good.
Frankly, if this happened to me, I would:
1.remove the affected pieces (except the headliner)
2.soak them in spotshot and then in a mild detergent (colorsafe)
3.take them to a car wash with a power washer and blast them until the water that comes out is clean.
4.leave it outside (in the shade, preferably in a windy area)
I did this to my trunk carpet because I believe something very similar happened in my civic's trunk before I bought it. I swear, with all the crap that I washed out of the carpetting, it was a pound lighter after it dried.
Do keep in mind that I live in the 110-degree desert, so mildew was not a problem, as it dried in only two hours.
