Why is dell constantly doing the 750 off deal?

It is a bit of a silly question, yet has some merit.

Why in the world is dell constantly doing this. Maybe a year ago this whole deal was a once every year or so, now its once every week. Not that I mind getting a laptop half off, but I wonder why (and how) they are actually doing this.

Any insite?

They raise the price a bit .. to "Lower" the price.. To get people to go buy.. They aren't "Losing" money on the deal.. They are making money.. And getting more loyal customers that will go buy another dell in the future.. They are discounting their prices a bit.. but they also have higher prices so it looks like its a better deal than it really is. But usually still a decent deal in the end.

Dell makes most of their deals off the business line from what I know. Thats were Dell is making a big part of their money (cause thats where most of their big deals are). But in the end...both the company and the consumer have gains. The consumer gets a good computer for a decent price.

It's because July is the end of their fiscal year, and they're trying to get as many machines out the door as possible. Take advantage, 'cuz I think things will be back to normal next month.

Yes, Dell makes oodles of money from their PowerEdge servers. Also remember that, even though they are selling lots of computers with these insane coupons, they are selling lots more at regular price-- This equals profit and more business, a win-win for Dell. Also, even with the coupons, people start adding things (RAM sticks out in my mind) and the upgrades are EXPENSIVE. You still may win as the consumer, but Dell makes up a little bit of ground with each upgrade.

Because they are smart enough to realize that they can run this promotion and still be profitable and at the same time get you to think you're getting a steal. You want a better question try asking who they think they are fooling the rest of the time with their "regular" prices.

Also because the people who DON'T know about the deal are subsidizing the costs for those of us who DO take advantage.

They have to make money somewhere...

Also, I might recommend to anyone getting these deals to not buy RAM and find it somewhere cheaper online and install it for tons less. Installing it yourself may be an extra step, but for fifty (or more) dollars, it should be worth it.

Usually with these deals, I upgrade parts that hard for me to upgrade later like CPU, wireless card, screen, and etc. I could install RAM and hard drive later for less.
