everytime i press ctrl+alt+del, i always get the windows security screen (the screen that lists the logon information and has the six buttons for lock computer, log off..., shut down..., change password..., task manager, and cancel). since i only use ctrl+alt+del for the task manager, is there any way i can bypass that screen? i'm using windows xp and i know i can bypass it by going to control panel > user accounts > change the way users log on or off and checking the option for "use the welcome screen", but i really like the classic look of windows. thanks in advance.

I have that setup on my windows pc at home and I have no clue how the hell I did it.
I either used group policy (go to run, type in gpedit.msc)
Or I did something when I rightclicked on "My computer" Somewhere (rightclick my computer, select properties, Click Advanced, Performance, Settings).
Its in one of those two settings where you can avoid the whole "Welcome Screen".

thanks for trying to help, pemolis, but i don't think you understood my problem. i already got rid of that welcome screen. however, i want ctrl+alt+del to behave like it did when the welcome screen was on before, which was go straight to the task manager. with the classic windows look on xp, whenever i use ctrl+alt+del, this screen pops up:

i would then have to click on the "task manager" button before i could access the task manager. it's not that bad, but it's just a minor inconvenience since i only use ctrl+alt+del for the task manager. so, my question is: is there a way to bypass that screen and go straight to the task manager while using the classic windows look?

sorry jeff, but i think you got my problem switched around. my symptom is:
When you use the keyboard combination CTRL+ALT+DEL to open the Task Manager, Windows Security window is opened instead.
i had forgotten all about tweakxp.com. i'll give it a look first and post back my results later.

Jeff is correct on what he posted. If you do the opposite and switch it to the quick logon, it will go to task manager instead of the security window.
I prefered the security window and went insane when I changed to quick logon for my roommates to use my computer while I was on vacation. I got back and hit ctrl alt del and got task manager and was lost to why it was. Then I changed away from the quick logon and it went back to the security window.
When I say quick logon, I mean "Use the welcome screen for fast and easy logon check box" off Jeffs link.

after poking around at tweakxp.com for a bit, i couldn't find anything about how to make ctrl+alt+del go directly to task manager while using the classic windows look. i did find out that you can use ctrl+shift+esc and that'll go directly to task manager regardless of whether or not one uses the welcome screen ( but it's not the familiar ctrl+alt+del :disa: ).
When I say quick logon, I mean "Use the welcome screen for fast and easy logon check box" off Jeffs link.so i take it that there's no way to get ctrl+alt+del to go directly to task manager without using the logon screen (meaning, you HAVE to use the welcome screen in order to get ctrl+alt+del to behave that way)?
man...it's times like these that i wish windows would go back to 98 (without the bugs and bsod's and before spyware and trojans and stuff like that were known), especially with the new windows "genuine advantage" tool that's being released. :|

Yes - as posted in my link above, you must turn on the welcome screen to get this to work.

Well my Welcome Screen is up
So is my Fast user Switching.
Yet when I Ctrl-alt-del.. I get the task manager.
I thumbed through gpedit.. nothing that should even point to that.
wierd.....
I actually consider this a problem where I work cause I can't lock my screen at will.
hehehe.

Use windows key-L to lock your machine. I know, doesn't solve your problems but it's a quick workaround

Yup, I use ctl shift esc, either that or right click on the bottom bar and select task manager. I am suprised as well they didn't give you a seperate option for that, but it is "by design" from the article jeff linked.
