What is worse than a snake in your garage? A snake skin in your garage that goes inside the wall. I went to get my flashlight out of the garage last night after parking my motorcycle and after picking it up I noticed something odd. I took a closer look and unfortunately my first thought was right; there was a snake skin hanging down from the inside of the wall. I left it alone last night but I went out and started poking around today. I pried off the base molding and took a few pictures up inside to see what I could see. What ever moron built the house and sheet rocked the garage left a gaping hole right by the door into the house. It looks like the they used a piece of metal to bridge the gap between the two pieces of wood. Our little friend must have thought this would be a good place to crawl into. The exposed portion of the skin (I tried to pull more out but it just broke off) is about 20 inches long, and I think that is only half of it. What to do, what to do.

Most likely, the snake was just using the bricks to shed. cuz it's so jagged there.

I am not a snake expert (that would be the tatooed snake lady on ICQ if she is still around), but looking at the skin it looks to be a garden snake. Nothing to worry about and I doubt if the skin is any longer than that. It probably found a nice warm place. If it's cold, he/she is prob sleeping especially after a good shed.

Enjoy your new friend. He is taking care of your mice :D

ooo i love snakes...whenever my dog starts playing with one outside (she nudges them around with her nose...rolls them down stairs...ect...) i have to go save it.

anyways...just use some ultimate foam sealer...it comes in a can, just spray a load up in there and it should be fine..

That is exactly what I did. I filled it up earlier today. According to the NC Science Museum, it is most likely a rat snake. I don't really care what type it is, I just don't want it in my house. I'll probably end up coming across him in the attic, and then it will be time for a showdown!

I think an aligator in your bathroom would be worse...

That snake was only using the rough edge of the bricks to shed as Chrissy surmised. Believe it or not, but that snake is just fine to have hanging around - it helps control other nasty critters like mice, rats, etc. What would you rather have, a snake skin every once in a while or rat/mouse droppings?

Growing up in a rural part of California exposed me to a lot more nature than I sometimes would like to remember, like the year we had diamondback rattlesnakes slither into our garage on three seperate occasions. So as DarkFury mentioned, it could be much worse!

Make that three votes for good to have around. You don't bother him, I doubt he'll bother you...

:stupid: Natural pest control. Good to have around. And don't worry too much. If the snake hangs around it is because there is food (vermin) there. If there is no food it will move along. Either way you win.

another :stupid: vote here. yeah it may be nasty to think of, but atleast its not like you have a bear that crawled in there to hibernate

It looks to be a harmless snake. Its prolly some type of constrictor, either a corn or a king snake, depending on what side of the country you are residing in. Both are usually docile animals. I wouldent worry about it. its gonna eat the mice in your garage then move on to the neighbors house and take care of their rodent problem as well. the glass can also be half full.

BTW is that a Honda CB750? its totally clean, Nice

All seems well for now. I know they have their uses, but it is still hard to "just leave it alone" when it is in your house. We'll see what happens.

No, it is a 1981 Suzuki GS750L. And yes, it is immaculately clean http://www.gotapex.com/forums/images/icons/tongue.gif
