problems installing XP

im installing XP on a newly built machine. i put the disk in, format, copy files, install every fine. however, after it restarts the first time to continue installing things, the safe mode, normal mode, etc screen comes up. no matter what option i choose, it just reboots again to the same screen. has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?

I had this happen to me once and I had to completely re-clean install XP; I think something goes kaput in the System folder for some reason (which doesn't make sense since you are going from a clean install from the get go). Oddly enough it's only happened to me with WinXP and not any other version of Windows. And (I believe) it only happened to me one time. Maybe XP likes breaking in new hard drives...? :heh:

Try to re-clean install it and see if that works.
