I refuse to feel sorry for the loss of life here. To me, it's like stepping on a cockroach.

Vardan Kushnir, notorious for sending spam to each and every citizen of Russia who appeared to have an e-mail, was found dead in his Moscow apartment on Sunday, Interfax reported Monday. He died after suffering repeated blows to the head.

Kushnir, 35, headed the English learning centers the Center for American English, the New York English Centre and the Centre for Spoken English, all known to have aggressive Internet advertising policies in which millions of e-mails were sent every day.

In the past angry Internet users have targeted the American English centre by publishing the Center’s telephone numbers anywhere on the Web to provoke telephone calls. The Center’s telephone was advertised as a contact number for cheap sex services, or bargain real estate sales.

Another attack involved hundreds of people making phone calls to the American English Center and sending it numerous e-mails back, but Vardan Kushnir remained sure of his right to spam, saying it was what e-mails were for.

Under Russian law, spamming is not considered illegal, although lawmakers are working on legal projects that could protect Russian Internet users like they do in Europe and the U.S.

Yes, all email addresses are for spammers to send unsolicited comercial emails, just as all heavy blunt objects are for beating in the skulls of spammers.

Let's see, 1 spammer dead, 200,000,000 or so suspects... I think this one is headed for the back burner. They will only catch this guy if he left some very obvious evidence or he walks into the police station and confesses.

Got|Viagra???Profit margins. Direct mail works because a certain percentage of the people that get junk mail will become interested in the ten-second window that it takes to go from mailbox to trashcan (also why political mailers are notoriously flashy). That makes the advertising company (and of course the company being advertised) enough money to run with it.

The margins on spam are much lower. Let's say that it costs a few hundred bucks to buy e-mail addresses, then another few hundred to pay a hacker to take over twenty computers and use those twenty computers to send out fifty-million e-mails (not hyperbole), all it takes is for less than one percent of those receiving to respond before they make their money back.

Better yet, pay a spamming company to spam for you, you pay the fee and get your message out on the cheap. The spamming company puts in a tiny investment on hardware and bandwidth and makes tons.

It's like GAIN. At first Gator was cool because it was the first thing to fill-in info for you on websites and saves passwords. Then they made more money installing spyware. Tons of people got rid of anything GAIN, but enough people use it that they're still profitable, if not more so than before.

"How do you sleep at night?"
"On a large bed surrounded by beautiful women and money."
"Oh, just wondering."
