OJ Simpson Told to Pay DirecTV $25G, Fees
Associated Press
MIAMI - A federal judge has ordered former football star O.J. Simpson to pay $25,000 in damages for pirating satellite television signals from DirecTV.
U.S. District Judge Joan Lenard awarded the damages, plus attorneys' fees and other costs, after granting a motion for summary judgment in a civil suit against Simpson.
In a raid on Simpson's Miami home in 2001, federal agents seized illegal devices known as "bootloaders" that authorities said were used to steal television programming.
Simpson's attorney, Yale Galanter, said Tuesday that the judge "basically denied us our right to a jury trial. ... This was a decision made by a judge in chambers. They say he did it; we say he didn't. A jury should be able to make that decision."
Simpson was aware of Friday's ruling, Galanter added. Asked whether Simpson would pay the damages and other costs, the attorney said: "We are examining our legal options. ... We want our day in court."
Galanter has 10 days to respond, or the summary judgment stands.
DirecTV executives were pleased with the ruling.
"The evidence was overwhelming since the devices seized in Simpson's home were connected to his TV and in operation and receiving unauthorized signals at the time of the raid," said Dan Fawcett, an executive vice president with El Segundo, Calif.-based DirecTV Inc.
Simpson moved to Florida from California after he was acquitted of murder charges in the 1994 stabbing deaths of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman.
A civil jury in 1997 held Simpson liable for the killings and ordered him to pay the victims' survivors $33.5 million. Much of that judgment remains unpaid.

OJ in trouble again? Its The Man™ who won't leave the poor guy alone! OJ is way too busy finding the real killers on the golf course to even look at TV! Now Simpson vows to find the real pirates even if it takes the rest of his life!

Heh... the "most watched man" not on television.
Honestly, "the man" is in fact pissed at O.J. Anything he does is and will be held against him, so you'd think he'd just avoid all of that and just play it straight knowing that they still want to hang him on the wall.

Obviously the folks who "looked over the evidence" concluded that he was NOT guilty...
Now if you are talkin' about the folks who "speculated" about the evidence... well that's a different story. And yeah... quite of few of you won't rest easy until you see him behind bars...
Just sticks in your craw... doesn't it?

it amazes me that there are still people who think OJ didn't murder his ex-wife, Nicole and Ron Goldman.
so then why are they not looking for the real killer(s)? the investigation should've continued after OJ was acquitted.

Why aren't the cops looking? Well because the have no other leads. That doesn't imply guilt IMHO.

Actually, the LVPD has a very good idea who killed Tupac now. The only problem is that the guy they think did it was killed 6 months after Tupac caught the 5-pack that did him in.
The LAPD has a pretty good idea who killed B.I.G., but the problem is NOBODY WANTS TO TALK TO THE POLICE ABOUT IT. Everyone even remotely involved is still shut up tight about it. It's kind of hard for the police to investigate and gather evidence when they can't get people to talk about it and there isn't much forensic evidence.
How do I know this? There was a 6-part investigative story into what really happened with Tupac/B.I.G. in the L.A. times about 2 months ago.

Even if the LAPD Were still looking for Nicoles murderer('s) You wouldn't necessarily hear about it. Once O.J. was let go... everyone lost interest and wouldn't care about the news story anyways unless they actually caught somebody

i realize some cases go unsolved, but this one went cold as soon as the defendant was declared innocent.
OJ is free because of fame, media coverage and money... money to buy one of the greatest legal defense teams ever.

and yes, we were still interested in finding the real killers as OJ said was going to be his life's passion after he was acquitted. does anyone have a link to anything showing where OJ or the LAPD continued this search?
for those interested in how the evidence is clearly mounted against OJ here is a play by play of the whole trial from courtTV

Yet and still... they have NOTHING to show for it.
Mighty convienient that "the guy who did it"... got done. (Ultimately sounds like someone got away to me...)
BTW... as has been stated at length before, some folks just don't trust the police in any instance... but hell, they sure as hell didn't expend as much effort as they did in goin' after O.J. initially.

Read whatever you want into it, since you probably wouldn't believe the truth anyway. Too many baseless urban conspiracy theories out there have polluted people's opinions to the point that nobody would believe that it was a simple revenge shooting because Tupac beat the guy up 6 hours earlier. People have practically cannonized Tupac Shakur and don't want to remember that he actually was a gang thug.

That is because OJ was more famous. I mean really - he's in the Hall of Fame for crying out loud! The higher you are the more press your fall will get. Also with the great Bronco chase OJ set the stage to keep peoples attention for the whole trial. Try as it might Blake was just not as interesting.

Hey I was on a jury about two years ago. Nothing drastic or large. When I was put on I figured I would do my civic duty for a change, and my company paid me for the time. If you have not been on a jury or been involved in a case, I felt that trying to get 12 people to agree is pretty well impossible. Yes the stars have more money to confuse, but we all must remember guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Even through you may think he is guilty, want to convict, and throw him to the wolves, if the evidence is not presented and other reasonable theories disproved you can't convict. That is what makes our system the best. I would rather let a few go than have the innocent people behind bars. We only hear about the big cases becuase that is what makes news. You never heard about the ho hum cases or those that are let go becuase the case can't be proved. I am willing to toss the book at criminals but its not that easy to get 12 people to agree so when you do, you have a pretty good certanity that the person did it.
