At about 8:00pm Monday night we had a very strong thunderstorm move through. There was a lightning strike very close to our house, after which my internet service (Comcast cable) and telephone (Comcast digital phone over the same cable) went dead. I got on the (cell) phone with Comcast (started with the cable internet option), and they said they were aware of the problem, etc., but it might be 24 to 72 hours. Yesterday afternoon I called the phone side, and the rep. said they didn't have any outages, so they would have to send a repair person to my home (first available schedule was 1:00pm Friday). Last night I called the cable support back to check (since the phone people say there isn't any outage but my service is out) and the guy says that they are still working on the repair and it hasn't been 72 hours yet, so (implying) why am I calling back? I explained that the phone people said there wasn't any outage, so I wanted to confirm if there was one. Anyway, the cycle continues, and my phone and internet are still dead. Phooey!

I have been pretty happy with Comcast phone and internet, but their speed at fixing problems is :pfft:

At least I can get a bit of access from work.

Well, about 4pm I dialed my home number, and it rang through. I quick check (through the eyes of my daughter) of the cable modem indicated that the internet was back up, too. So, I called the phone group to cancel the service call. When I asked about a credit, the rep had to transfer me to billing. Got 3 days credit for the phone, but that rep had to transfer me to another group for the cable (internet/tv) credit. The transfer failed, so I called back in to the billing for the cable, and got the 3 days of credit for that, too. You would think "Comcast" could work things out with "Comcast", but it ain't so. :disa:

It's a top secret network tool, ESPnet. I can't reveal any more....

My original service call was scheduled for Friday at 1-3pm, and I had rescheduled it to Saturday 1-3pm when I found out my wife was going to be out of town. When me service was restored Wednesday afternnon, I called Comcast to cancel the service call. On Friday morning, I got an automated voice call reminding me about the service call that day, so I contacted Comcast to let them know that I had cancelled the call, and the rep confirmed that it had been cancelled (but the automated system didn't "know" about the cancellation). This afternoon about 2pm the doorbell rings, and it's the Comcast service guy. I explained to him that I had cancelled the service call after my service had been restored earlier in the week.

No wonder Comcast has to charge what they do.... :disa:
