Yes, thank you....It's 97 and possibly heading for 100. Yesterday the Electric Company hit a record for energy usage.
How do people cope with heat like this in States like Florida?

it's 94 here in Walnut, and the circuit breaker decides to skip out now. which wouldn't be much of a problem, except that the circuit breaker box is in the office NEXT to us, and they don't start their day until 2pm!!!!
DOHHH!

93 and heat index of 103 right now right by the Boston Harbor. It is painfully hot because the humidity is absolutely killing us. Even the ocean breeze doesn't feel good.

Its quite simple, EVERYWHERE in Florida has A/C and its generally always on. You go from one A/C area to another A/C area.
Frankly, due to the daily summer rains its no big deal and knocks down the humidity levels. Locals never really have problems dealing with the heat either, we have learned through the years what to do to make the heat less burdensome. You play sports either early or late in the day. Park in your garage or put up windshield sun blockers. Towels on leather seats. Park in the shade. Stay by the coast for the breeze. Things like that.

It's also fairly rare for temperatures in Florida to get to 100. There's a big bunch of water all around that helps to keep things a bit in check.

How do people cope with heat like this in States like Florida? In New Orleans:
1. We acclimated. After a few years, you just get used to being hot and some level of wet all day.
2. Like was mentioned, every place has A/C.
3. People hide indoors all day nursing hangovers, and come out and party all night when its cool (hey, its New Orleans!)

When you live in the desert, you get used to it. I kinda like it. It was 105 here today, with a breese; not too bad.

Yeah, 105 in the shade with no humidity is not too bad.
July was brutal though, 22 straight days of 109+. One day my car temp hit 119, even tho the official high for the month is 116.
That said, I'll still take an Arizona summer over someplace with humidity.

I hate the hot/humid weather, though being from the South, I've grown up with it. My VERY quick visit to the SF bay area last week made me understand how great you CA people have it. 80-90 without humidity during the day and 50-60 at night. Nice.

:woohoo: thanks ufcrusher! i was all scared of flying out to florida because everytime i told someone i was going they'd be like "whoooa, you're going to die in the heat... blah blah blah." it's good to hear from someone who actually lives there and knows what he's talking about! :)

Yep good ol' El Centro is where I'm from. The worst part about the heat for me was getting into my car after it had been sitting in the heat for a couple of hours. All the metal would be blistering hot and I'd have to be careful not to burn my stomach with the friggin seat belt. The funny thing about cars there is that even the junkers will have some sort of AC on them. Even my 85 cougar had an awesome AC even if barely ran :hihi:

Yup. It's the humidity that's brutal. Once you start sweating, it doesn't evaporate off of your skin...which makes going for a run more like going for a swim. A warm, smelly swim. Even at 8 a.m.
Luckily, we do have A/C almost everywhere, but my first two cars didn't have it....which is why I could afford those cars. :)

I lived in Florida from the time I was 8 until I left for college. First 2 years in St. Petersburg, then in Daytona Beach. Tell me about the heat and humidity - I spent a summer working for my Dad. Oh yeah, he built homes. My brother and I usually were the ones to dig the footings. My other "specialty" was nailing up the roof decking (no power nailers in those days). I could spend the entire day without a shirt and not burn. I remember one day my brother and I were cleaning up at a site that was about finished. We had to dig a big hole to bury the non-degreadable trash (brick, cinder block, etc) and had a fire burning what could burn. I know that I drank at least 1.5 gallons of water during that day (and never had to take a leak).

We're experiencing our first Florida summer and I have no complaints. Not much warmer (if at all) than NJ. Just warmer/moister longer. I'll take a Florida summer over a north east winter any time!

I never have understood those people who say its like walking out into a big wet blanket. Thats the complaint I hear 9 times out of 10 from people who are questioning the sanity of anyone living in Florida. How can you deal with the humidity? How can you like walking out into a wet blanket. What about the hurricanes. You have bugs the size of birds there. There are no seasons.
I just look at them and tell them that they are nuts, they dont know what they are talking about. It gets worse when you are trying to convince someone to move to Florida and another person is trying to sabatoge the move as they dont want you to go. Fortuanetly, once you are there and realize the reality...talk to locals or long term transplants most of the concerns go the way of the dodo.

I like to think Arkansas, but here in LA it's usually MS. I do, however, sometimes resent the MS cracks.

It isn't that bad down here, as long as you stay inside, have a white car, and a portable air conditioner while driking a slushee and wearing uber sunblock.
