Simple question.....a guest is over and like a good host, you offer them a drink. (S)He asks what you have to offer and you start going through your list. All of the sudden, your guest looks shocked and asks you to repeat that last item. What drinks that you have at your disposal might make a person look at you funny?
I have a couple....I happen to really like Hawaiian Punch. It wasnt something I was allowed to drink growing up and I used a ton of it in college to make Hunch Punch/Jungle Juice, so I always had a few of them around. As I dont have kids most people thinks its weird for an adult to be drinking the stuff.
Snake Bile Wine - A type of white lighting that is electric green in color. Every time I mention it people just look like I am crazy....most pass.
And of course....home-made moonshine peach schnapps always gets looks too.
What do you have?

I have food and beverages in my fridge.
The people who come over know not to ask me what there is, they can get up and look for themselves. This ain't the Ritz-Carlton!

on a semi-related note, does freezing batteries really help to extend their life? i've seen numerous people do this, but i've never quite believed it worked...

Nope - it actually decreases the life of batteries to keep them in a cold environment (except lithium, which are OK in the cold).
Room temp is best... freezing or very high temps (over 90 degrees or so) will decrease their life.
You might be thinking of camera film, which does keep longer if you store it in the fridge.

In the summer, I usually have some coffee in the ice cube trays, just waiting to be thrown into the blender.

To drink?
Guinness, Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, pineapple juice, orange juice, cranberry juice, a 1.5L bottle of Pocari Sweat - only a few will pick up the name, Coors Light, water, sweet & sour mix (although that's kind of nasty to drink straight), a couple bottles of Cloudy Bay, and Moet.

Jungle Juice aka Hunch Punch is a quite potent mixture that you make in large batches for parties. There are quite a few urban legends about it and a myriad of ways to make it.
Generally its: 2 "cans" of Hawaiian Punch (old style 1 gallon cans, so 2 gal), 2 liters of 7-up, sprite* or Gingerale depending on your preference, and 1 bottle of everclear - red or blue label. (* used most often by me) Mix in a large container and get blitzed.
A gross factoid: Most Fraternities would make this for women to drink, but would have 2 vats available. 1 in the front for the uninvited masses and 1 in the back for the desirables. Those in the know, NEVER drank from the front container as it generally was made with an added ingredient........urine. The urine would cut the smell of the alcohol and since its sterile and cheap.....AND HIGHLY UNDESIRABLE it was a giant inside joke and they always told the guys to go fill their cups there. I actually know for a FACT that a certain fraternity at University of Florida actually did do this at least once. One of my friends was a member there and told me point blank to steer clear of that container. I had come with a group of people and found one of the women refilling her cup with that front one. She started drinking it, said This one taste different and I didnt have the heart to tell her why. Personally I never went back to that house for an open party.

Why because the kool-aid? :hihi: The kool-aid is for me! :heh:
Yeah...I don't have any alcohol AT THE MOMENT...and if I did...I would probably hide it and not offer it to guests... :hihi: Too expensive!

Lychee Chu-Hai was kick ass. It was great for throwing in the backpack when I visited a couple monhs ago. It was hot as Hell all week, but unlike beer the Chu-Hai still tastes good wam.

The two ads I remember seeing plastered all over the inside of the trains were for "Pocari Sweat" and "Beer Water". They probably stand out in my mind because they seem to be poor choices for names.

Rasperry lemonade crystal lite
6 pack of Yeungling
grapefruit juice cocktail
orange juice
quart of milk that probably needs to be thrown out
Half a tube of store-bought polenta
A big pot of panset I cooked Sunday to eat over late work nights this week (to those who are unfamilar with my mother's family recipes, its spaghetti with a sauce made from canned tomatos, tomato sauce, diced peppered pork and onions, and a bit of soy sauce. Muy bien.)
Lettuce, broccoli, tomatos and mushrooms for salads
Annie's sesame and ****ake vinaigrette (Highly recommended if you like garden salad)
horseradish
cocktail sauce
a couple yogurts
teriyake sauce
sweet and sour sauce
about half a wedge of Port Salute Cheese, along with half a stick of sopressata (crackers in the cupboard)
Raspberry preserves
