Hello all. I’m a really long time listener and
lurker. First of all, I’m a little disappointed at
the loss of posters here. I guess I shouldn’t be too
surprised given the quality of the show lately. I’ve
listened for years and just feel so cheated at how the
show has lost touch with their listeners. Where are
the open calls, where are the funny phone bits and do
stuff to Randy- are they not allowed to do these
things anymore?

Ok, enough of that. Here’s what I think is going on
with Laura. Does anyone remember a couple of months
ago the showgram did a bit that each person on the
show had to reveal a secret about themselves without
actually saying who’s secret it was? Well someone’s
secret was that they had been arrested over the
weekend. Everyone thought it was Tommy or Jerry. But
what if it was Laura who got a DUI and is now in a
court ordered rehab???? She definitely is in some
kind of clinic. Laura never used to bug me. I am
about her age and I used to be able to relate in so
many ways with her. But she has become so self
absorbed and really messed up, I truly now can say
that LBM!!!

No, New Reader, I am not pathetic, I do not like to
torture myself by listening to something I hate. I
don’t hate the show. I listen to the show every
morning. I want to change stations and when they are
on vacation, I do. But, it’s kind of like an
addiction and I’m having trouble letting go. I
literally grew up with the show and I pretty much
know everything that they have allowed us to know
about their personal lives. So if anyone from the
showgram is listening, please bring back some of what
we used to love about the show.

All I can say is "ditto." It's funny- I started riding in a carpool this morning, and I was thinking, okay, this is good, I won't even have to think about whether or not to listen to Jeff and Jer - it's out of my hands. And what do you know, they had the station on Jeff and Jer! They all admitted that they were disappointed in how the show's entertainment value had declined since the move the 94.1.

We all agreed that J & J are using the Thank You Party just to fill air time with giving away tickets. So there you go, we lurkers on this board are not the only ones who are complaining. I keep tuning in off and on during the morning just hoping that it's all a bad dream and the the real Jeff and Jer will come back, but alas, this is not to be.

And I think the SD Native's take on the Laura drama might very well be right on. I hope that Laura is getting the help that she so desperately needs. Have a good week everyone!

Now that is a much better attitude! I am proud of SD Native and BecInCA for their honesty. If everyone stops focusing on negative things that drive them crazy, they might be happier individuals and stop complaining all the time.

How was the party last night? The big question is did they let Laura check out of rehab in time to make the party? I would imagine she was a no show regardless. I don't think she would be allowed around so much alcohol so soon after checking out anyways. Did Tommy end up losing 20lbs or $5,000 out of his pocket?

GoEagles

Laura was not there.
Tommy lost 33 lbs.

WHere was Randy ??? Was he there ?

From Tommy's blog:

"Laura called me late last night! She sounds great! She really wanted to be here tonight, but for obvious reasons will not make it. Dannell took the kids to the river for the weekend, so I’m going to fly up to see Laura on Sunday and surprise her. For every pound I may have lost this last month, Laura tells me she gained it.
I’ll have her write another message to you okay?"

What is "obvious reasons?" They have not revealed where she is or why on the showgram. "fly up to see Laura on Sunday" She must be in rehab in Oregon. Regardless of what "she needs to take care of being a mom" means, I find it very odd that the showgram has not placed a call to Laura on the air to see how she's doing.

Ritchie

Anyone here care to speculate on why it's only been Tommy who has flown somewhere to see her?

And why did she have to go somewhere that requires a flight to get to?

At least the show has been somewhat tollerable with her gone.

Now that the stupid party is over, we just have to hear them talk about it for a week before they get back to their lame usual routine.

There's a new diary entry from Laura personally delivered by Tommy after flying back down from seeing her. http://jeffandjer.star941sandiego.com/cc-common/feeds/view.php?feed_id=25590&feed=/jandjarchive_06.html&instance=1&article_id=77660

She sounds like she really dug herself into a hole she's having a tough time getting out of. It looks like her stay has been extended much longer than everyone first thought? Wow. I really hope Laura comes back a new person and doesn't have the same attitude she had before about how everything revolving around her. She even thinks she might miss the purse party. They haven't even announced a date for that yet. Anyone here starting to think Laura is off somewhere around 3 months or more? YIKES!

Wabbitsd
04-10-2007, 10:21 AM
I wonder if she was arrested for drunk driving...That State College area is NOT the place to be running around a little on the loop...cops pretty much can get a full quota with most of the State students up and down Montezuma, there. And maybe this is a rehab program ordered instead of jail time. Going to another state would probably make it less likely that stuff would get to the local press...

I think her first noticeable effort at not drinking was probably right after "the incident," then it took a while for her to have her court stuff processed. I'm sure the rehab would have been a plea bargain kind of thing.

Anyone starting to think she was arrested for child endangerment rather than DUI? There is a God!

Maybe she really is a coke-head. Maybe the person that was arrested a few months back really was her, but not for a DUI, for a drug charge, and since it was a first, she was ordered to rehab rather than jail (isn't that the new thing in CA???).

She said she had gained 15 pounds...if she had stopped drinking, she would have lost weight, not gained it. But if she stopped the nose candy, that may explain the weight gain...

That might explain Tommy's visits...doesn't have supposedly have a drug past too?

hmmmmm

I heard a little of the show this morning...Delana had to list five things she really liked, and it included a snorkle radio. She evidently likes to snorkle.

I think I like her a lot. That was one of the funniest things they have done in a loooong longggg time...called her friends to verify that she did a lot of snorkling. A funny bit in my opinion.

I would like for Laura to really take good care of herself and take a couple more weeks off. Delana can handle it for her. No, really, Laura. Take some more time off. Not once have I had to say that Delana bugged me while Laura was gone. Not once.

Ordinarygirl: Welcome. As was said above, as long as you're not the Vice President of the "We Love Jeff and Jer Fanclub" ('cause the president job is filled by New Reader), we're happy to have you lurking around.

Our speculation is that this is a court-ordered rehab because why is she so restricted? Even Britney Spears could get out and about periodically in her country-club rehab. And, we're also thinking that Laura is in another state because Tommy has to "fly" to see her. Something bad must have happened to her to have her go to these extremes.

Personally, I feel bad for her husband, who's constantly left holding the bag, and her children. And, if they got a dog while she was gone - I feel bad for that dog! They can't even watch themselves no less a dog.

NO WAY it's an eating disorder. She wasn't fat but NEVER that skinny. The way she used to talk about needing wine to take the edge off of dealing with her kids and the daily mundane tasks, etc sounds more like alcohol or perhaps drugs. She does sound very disorganized though with so many things to do all the time. She forgets she works half of a full time job if that.

hmmm. reality shows...overheard in a Hollywood minature golf snack bar...a few ideas were tossed around like so many sandbags...

"Doin Time with the Stars?"
concept: a group of never-was has-been radio wish-they-weres get together for a month of hilarity and non-stop hijinks. Initially, they each think they were selected for this remote, no friends(connections)-allowed 30 day program because they were extrememly sexy. But the fun begins when they all have to guess each other's substance addiction!

"Shillin me Softly"
concept: a lame hanger-on with a morning radio program in the southwest returns refreshed from a month-long seminar hosted by an unnamed, but local radio executive with the initials TJ on how to "get the most" from radio station payola. The "star" tries to sell off the new kitchen cabinetry and appliances she recently received as a trade for her outstanding reading ability, and runs into a snag when the IRS asks her if she recorded the value of these items when her husband did her taxes. Hilarity ensues when the gal enlists the help of a notorious producer in "re-acquiring" items she has already sold to unsuspecting buyers who are startled to find their purchases are missing the day after their checks clear the banks. Wait til you see the mug shots from this escapade!

Laura was not back today as previously mentioned. They did say on the show today that she will be out all week again. Jerry decided to extend his 2 day weekend into a 3 day weekend by calling in sick. This on the eve of yet ANOTHER 1 week vacation next week for the showgram where inevitably Jerry will be taking Friday off to start his vacation a day earlier than the rest of the showgram just because he can and 9 days off in a row isn't enough.

Well....Jerry was defiitely in town. He and Pam were at the Art Alive gala Friday nite and she was by herself at another Art Alive gala for the museum on Saturday nite.

hmmm. reality shows...overheard in a Hollywood minature golf snack bar...a few ideas were tossed around like so many sandbags...

OMG! Sooooo funny! YOU should write for the show - at least it would be funny!

According to Tommy's Pulitzer Prize winning blog (April 15, 4:30 pm), Laura won't be back for another month. Her bad - she's going to miss out on three weeks of vacation time! Hopefully she now has internet access - perhaps she can catch up on New Reader's drivel.:puke:

If anything, we can tell New Reader where to go....

I am pretty sure that you all would find it BORING. It is just a local board that local "former brides now moms" have. There was just one random post asking about Laura. Believe me, there is much more substance on this site.

Sounding more and more like rehab as most have said. I know someone that recently came out of not one but two rehabs. Have never really asked about the details of the stay, but was told that they took weekly "field trips" to Beverly Hills.

It's interesting to me that "rehab" has become the latest bandaid apology for bad behavior...and a sort of "reward" and quick fix antidote. If you have the $$ you can make it quite a pleasant experience to indulge yourself in various substances. And it's never your fault! Reading Tommy's latest blog entries, and his mention of things like yoga, etc. I think perhaps Deepak Chopra may be involved.

Laura's stint sounds like it could involve the folks with Tom Cruise...they're known for adding on "seminars" to keep your $$ coming in. They probably sold her on the idea by telling her she could meet Tom or something.

Didn't she disappear right after Charlie took the header into the pole? I can't remember the details of her story, but maybe she was messed up at the playground and wasn't watching him and freaked out because he almost killed himself while she was drunk/coked out, so she decided she needed to turn her life around or her kids weren't going to make it.

No matter what happened, if she is getting better, good for her and I hope she is successful.

Close. He lives in a 5 bedroom, 6 bathroom, 7 year old 4,600 sq/ft home in Solana Beach, which he paid almost $2.5 million for. I was actually surprised when he said he only had a 2 car garage. It also sounds like he had A LOT of work done to the house with add-ons, electrical wiring, etc b/c he felt the 7 year old home needed a lot of work. I also found it funny when he and his wife mentioned on the air that they should get Murray Lampert Construction over to build a snoring room. Can't they use an exising room for that? I'm sure there are a lot of bonus rooms in that house that they could convert. As a worst case scenario, Jeff could sleep in the brand new RV if he snores that bad.

I think I have too much time on my hands. I was looking around on zillow and found this as possibly being Jeff's new house. What do you all think? Seems to fit what we know about it except I don't remember when he bought it. This one says 8/06. It sold for 2,337,500, was built in 1999 (making it 7 years old) has 5 bd/ 5.5 baths (5 and a powder room downstairs.) It looks like it has a spa up on a deck (hasn't he talked about the spa he bought before too?) Also on the "east" view looks like there might be a playhouse on the side yard. What do you all think? Her diary said charlie ran into the flag pole at school, but I agree that something happened kid related that she wasn't coherent enough to take care of them and I think her husband put his foot down. I wonder if he gave up flying due to his lack of trust in her mothering abilities...?

I think she decided to extend her visit at rehab for good measure--if that's the case, probably a smart choice. The more time she has the better.....

I noticed they have in introduction blurb about Delana, I wonder if they are grooming her to take Laura's spot...?

Wasn't she still doing her $73+ outfit of the week 2 months ago? From what I remember, she still looked pretty thin in those pics. I don't see any of the old outfits on their web site so I can't be sure when it was. Also, the last time she was prego they talked about it non-stop (at least they talked about the effects of the pregnancy on her chest non-stop)...can't imagine it would be that big of a secret this time, plus she wouldn't lose privilege to all communication if she was having a baby.

From Laura's lastest diary entry... "Then he told me that I looked beautiful and that I smelled so good, like a mamma should". Yeah, even poor Charlie knows a mom isn't suppose to reek like stale wine. All "barbs" aside for a minute. I don't like Laura as a radio personality but if this stint in rehab helps her become a better mother to those 2 kids of hers I do honestly wish her lots of luck. Charlie and Evan didn't get to choose their mom & Laura is what they got. Kids deserve a decent start in life and hopefully Laura will figure out that wine, partying, and non-stop shopping can't hold a candle to spending quality time with your kids.

The reason they don't do a lot of call in stuff like they did before is that they can't replay that for the last hour of the show so they can leave early.

No, no, and no... I have had pets I would have rather dated than Laura Cain - the female incarnation of Mr. Ed. I guess that would make her Mrs. Ed, and you, her fly-infested behind. As far as dealing goes, I specialize in dealing the truth - hopefully you can "deal" with it when I sit here am pretend like I'm throwing up in your face, NR. Does that stand for No Rectum? WOW. Jealous of them now. Tommy's blog says that after Thursday's show, they are on vacation until the 8th.

I am taking next week off for vacation - Monday through Friday - and it is only the second time in 13+ years that I have had a M-F off [and never more than that].

But I won't complain, because clearly from listening to them [which I RARELY do anymore], they have hard, hard lives.

Folks, please cool it with the personal attacks on one another. It's against forum rules & could result in timeouts or bannings.

Yes, it IS possible to put a user on ignore, and I recommend that as appropriate action when someone is bothering you, rather than getting into a flame war.

To put somone on ignore, click on their user name on the left side of the screen. In the menu that pops up, choose 'view public profile'. In the profile page, click the link that says "Add (username) to your ignore list". Done! Very simple.

Thank you

Hi Ritchie,

The posts counter is disabled in the 'Region Specific Deals' forum only. The reason for this is because apparently some people who post the radio station codes decided that the more posts they had, the more 'seniority' or respect they would have. People started neffing (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=neffing) like crazy to drive up their post counts, and pretty soon that's all the forums were - people racing to post useless stuff to get a higher post count total.

Hope that helps!

They have been on the air too long and are basically phoning it in.

Back in the day, they didn't have the money. They were both living in a condo in La Jolla TOGETHER. And the show was just the two of them and Tommy.

Now they have the money, and a cast of thousands trying to keep the show fresh.

I heard it the other day. Jer saying that it was a "chick friendly" show. I swear, if they get anymore chick friendly, they will start menstruating.

"Crystal Meth or Cocaine got you in a tizzy? Trying to make a living at a job for 3 hours a day (if you count all the breaks and showing up late and leaving early) but just can't quite hack the daily grind? Try capobeachresort. There's a program to fit your lifestyle, your need for rubbing elbows with celebrities, and there's a monthly drawing to be featured on 'Intervention', a reality show that follows addicts through their attempts at rehab.

Mention my name, Laura Cain, for your 20% discount, or two weeks free if you just can't hack getting back to normal life. Or better yet, bring your spouse...a friend, there are special rewards if you bring your DEALER! Well, I gotta get back to being waited on like a queen...and afternoon therapy is in a couple of hours, can't wait to talk about me me me me me!!

See you soon!"

On a serious note, about Dave...her addiction could be a real liability in his new worklife...he's in the defense industry, isn't he? That could be a real drag for him, if she has an addiction. Can you say "Trouble with Security Clearance?"

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20070518-9999-1n18mini.html

On Stone Court, not all single-family homeowners take a dim view of the students occupying the mini-dorms. Dave Cain's household is among a handful of families on the street, and his 7-and 3-year-old children play basketball with the students next door.

“We love them. We're happy to have them in the neighborhood ” said Cain, who moved to the College Area last year to soak up the vibrancy a large university brings.

His conclusion: “I think the old guard may not like the new blood.”

Perhaps she thought living within a stone's throw of the sorority house where she first fell in love with Dave would be enough to keep her marriage and family together despite her addictions? Like I said before the movie Old School came to mind immediately when she mentioned she bought a house near the SDSU campus. Laura has mentioned only her kids visiting in her diary entries and has never mentioned Dave. On top of this, it would appear Laura was the one kicked out of the house since Dave Cain was quoted in the UT this week while residing on Stone Court. It'll be interesting to find out where Laura is staying when she comes back on the air. The one that really gets me is where Dave decided to give up his dream job of being a pilot so he can spend more time with the kids. I'm guessing he was forced to do it because Laura was not a responsible parent.

One thing is for sure, the showgram burns through marriages almost as fast as Laura goes through the coke! Randy may want to take note!

Unless you're a "Swinger" like Jerry and Pam, in which case you get the benefits of being married when you want them and you get to screw other peoples spouses whenever you get bored and it's not considered "cheating", just "fulfilling" your natural, self-indulgent fantasies. :puke:

That's typical behavior of most "moms". They will only talk about the kids and don't really give the husband much thought since the kids are now their entire lives.

My guess is Laura nagged Dave to quit his dream job because she couldn't handle the kids herself. Again, typical.

I wish I could remember the guy who sang it, but there was an old r&b song from the late 70's called "I got papers on you!" and maybe DC is bringing Laura some papers to sign....

Anyone watch those intervention films? There was one blonde gal up in LA who never did go clean...she would run around her house naked, spit ramen noodles at her sister, swill booze out of bottles on the street..trade you know what for drug money...had pathetically weak parents...do we have to worry about seeing some of this kind of stuff with Laura in the acting seat?

I've watched the show for a couple years, after someone close to me went through addiction. People I talk to that watch that show religiously, have either gone through addiciton themselves, or someone close to them had.

I saw that one & that girl needed some big help. I would never be able to watch that show if Laura was on it. Her voice would kill me. Anyone see the Bardon commercial lately? I saw it 2 days ago & it wasn't Laura's voice as the voice-over.

If anytime from now on, I say I’m going out with someone THAT IS NOT for working out purposes OR if I say I’m eating a Pumpkin Pie for lunch or anything that is not from the menu in March, WILL YOU PLEASE EMAIL ME or CALL ME or COME TO MY HOUSE IF YOU KNOW my address and just knock some sense into me? There are a lot of places that does post my home address as of late, but that’s a different story. (a few of you will laugh at what I just wrote). J

I believe he was married before 1994. I can't remember if he got married before Jeff and Nina, which I believe was in 1990-1991. Anyhow, his first domestic violence dispute wasn't filed until 1997.

You know, I guess it's wonderful to have friends who will help you get over addictions, etc.

But it keeps bothering me that Tommy and the station are kinda holding out "glorification" for Laura to return after her stint in rehab.

I mean, I guess it's all the rage these days to be on a substance, then off the substance...and take a vacation at a swanky place then come back rested and ready to go...but

it still bothers me.

First, should young up and coming folks in the industry figure that this is the path they should follow? And secondly, is there not enough GREAT talent out there without substance issues to fill these slots?

If she can kick the habit(s) good for her. But fade away, take a year and then come back if you still have the "skill." If they hold the job for her, they are just enabling her to do it all over again.

jjgumba
05-31-2007, 11:01 AM
very good points, though i imagine there are contratual issues. I don't think an employer can legally let someone go when they voluntarily (?) get help. I believe the key is, they have to document cause (likely due to the abuse...), such as being late, too much time off, poor performance reviews, etc...I wonder if the "talent" on the radio goes through those typical corporate america hoops or if it's just all about the advertising dollars people/teams draw.

I bet they will sugarcoat this whole fiasco anyway....

Wabbitsd

thanks,jjgumba...your points well-taken too.

I'd be ok with her working behind the scenes somehow... comparable to a cop taking a "Desk Job" but if she is out and about REPRESENTING the Station AND all these advertisers, what is it saying about THEIR lack of moral compass?

I'll take it to an extreme, here...but there's some points to be made: did she get her BARDON cabinets because she parties with some of their sales crowd who also share her habits? and all the other advertising she has done. Should I take it that these folks are also part of her circle? Should I use my consumer dollars to support their lifestyles if I disagree with that path?

You have to remember that there are some really pathetic people in this world. You know the ones that call up the show crying, saying how Jeff & Jer helped them through one thing or another. Or they email saying how they have "changed" their lives or "inspired" them to go on. These same people are "salivating" over the prospect of finally having Laura, (someone as screwed up as they are) back on the show to relate to, though EVERYONE on that show is screwed up in one way or another enough to make just about anyone feel better about their own inferiorities.

from Tommy's blog today:
Speaking of Laura: She comes back on the air either June 25th or 26th. She’s excited and is so nervous and just itching to get back home to San Diego to her family and to her radio family as well. It’s kind of weird, because since she’s been gone I was always contacting her and talking and supporting her and being there for her NOW that she’s coming back, I’m kind of nervous too, because I bonded with Laura (as a friend) during this process and having her come back in just a few days is a trip and it’s like do I greet the NEW FRIEND in Laura or do I greet the Laura I’ve known for many years that we just talk every once in a while and work with?

By the way, I loaned her one of my cell phones so she can call the kids all the time and HOLY BALLS, she’s text messaged over 3,500 times in one month. What the heck? What’s a hundred bucks or two if it gets her in contact with the kids and Dave and ME and her mom and her sister and her friend Stacy and Rick and etc. etc. etc. J I thought I text messaged a lot. Maybe I do. I should check my bill for that as well.

Why is HE loaning her a cell phone - why wouldn't her husband get her one? None of this makes sense. And when someone lends you a cell phone - do you text message 3500 times? Looks like she's trading one addiction for another. Whatever.....maybe she's not New Reader after all - maybe she's New Texter.

Based on Tommy's blog entry today, it looks like the cheating may have started early on in the relationship like we all thought.

"Wednesday June 13, 2007 4pm: So, how did I meet Dannell? Dannell is my ex-wife and mother of my 3 kids. Eddie, Vanessa, and Amanda (who I helped raise since she was 7 or 8 and is now 22 and just had a baby)…..Dannell turns 45 on July 7th (just thought I’d throw that in). Dannell is much older than me."

Sounds like Tommy and Dannell were together 14-15 years ago, which was 1992-93.

"Then I started to flirt on the phone with her and she told me she was a huge Denver Bronco fan and I said, “well, the Broncos are coming to town next week, do you want me to get you tickets”? She said YES. So, she came in on a Saturday to the radio station and I got her some great seats and I even called the Mission Valley Marriott and asked for John Elway and he picked up the phone and she said hello to him and then that was it. She gave me a case of Corona as a thank you! Then from time to time, I saw her and she drove a BLUE CAMARO which she looked awesome in. Next thing I knew, it was March 5th 1994 and we went to Vegas to blow some money that I got from my income tax return and then March 6th we got married at a chapel in Vegas and then March 7th came home to San Diego and told our families and told everyone on the air. 9 months later Vanessa Michelle Sablan was born!"

The Broncos game was in the Fall of 1993 since the season ends in December.

Not sure if any of you remember the story of Tommy trying to justify how a lipstick that didn't belong to anyone in Tommy's family ended up in his glove box. He used the radio as a medium to try to convince his oldest daughter and Dannell that there could have been a lot of different explanations as to how it got there without implying that he's cheating. Dannell and her oldest daughter from a previous marriage were not convinced nor were they even entertained by the bit. The divorce went on anyways.

How freaking old is Tommy? How can he say that Dannell is "much older than him."

Maybe he's talking mentally - then it makes sense.
