Just watching this unfold with tears in my eyes for you guys... unable to get ahold of any of our family due to the circuits are busy now... any info more info on Valley Center?

I don't believe there are any fires in VC but the smoke is so bad in Escondido you can hardly see and things are changing so fast they cant even keep up with it on tv.

Forget the fender benders...Channel 8 caught some people LOOTING in RB!!! They issued a very stern warning (the anchors) and said "we are filming you and writing down your license plate #s. You WILL be caught and we WILL help prosecute you!"

That puts such a bad taste in my mouth....what disgusting human beings.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but I honestly haven't heard the answer....what started the main fire in Ramona? They suspect kids in chula vista only, correct?

It is believed to be downed power lines caused by the Santa Ana winds. The wires just came down and sparked...and presto.

I guess the Main CV danger is from the Harris fires, but there was a fire started in the OceanView Hills area that they suspect kids started. That is the only report of suspected SD Arson that I've heard. The Malibu fires up North are suspected arson. With the winds as they are an how quickly this all spread, I suppose it's hard to really pin it down?

I had heard either down power lines, or an explosing transformer...for the Ramona Fire. I don't think I had heard it was intentionally set.

Iamsheens...where's your Mom? If there is anything I can do for her, let me know, ok?

Looting in RB? that's so sick. What in the heck is wrong with people? What in the world brings this out of people?

surfin texan...do you need someone to come and help you out?

wELL MY mom is in Santee...Im not too worried about her my brother is there and my step dad and all my family. She has been updating me as much as she can but Im not suppsoed to be on my phone at work. Its great that I have you guys to calm me down and not stress while Im at work. I can hardly get on any websites (its a wonder i can get onto this site, but thank god I can)so I cant even be on news websites to see what is happening.

Thanks so much for the offer though, she actually is housing 6 dogs and I think 4 cats right now....its literally a zoo there from the sounds of it! Hopefully the fires dont get any worse than what they are...

So I just got word from my sister who lives in Irvine, and she's ok. I haven't heard back from my preggo sister who's evacuating downtown. She left her house in Carmel Valley at around 10:30 this morning and said she'd call me when she got settled. Any one know how the freeway situation is and if she could possibly still be stuck there?

iamsheens...if your Mom in Santee is away from the riverbed area...she should be fine. There was some fire in Lakeside, but I think that's less of a threat.

Cowles Mountain burned a month ago or so, didn't it? So she should be even safer, because there won't be as much fuel to keep the fire going now.

Our house isn't in immediate danger, so I'm not planning to have to evacuate (but i'm ready to...hubby's truck is loaded with the rest of the belongings and the dogs leashes are by the door). I have bad asthma and the other condition I mentioned to you via PM a couple weeks ago, so my husband and I decided it wouldn't be good for me to be outside or in a car breathing the bad air. I'm also having some mild contractions, and my son was getting nervous seeing me jittery. Right now he's happy to go on what he's calling the "Marine Corps camp out" with his brother, sister, and grandma.

Hi everyone,

My husband and I live in Orange County, but own a home in Rancho Bernardo. I know the home has been evacuated and was very close to other homes burned. Does anyone have any information on the homes that were lost? I don't get San Diego news up here, just LA and I'm tired of hearing about the poor rich people in Malibu that have lost their homes.

Channel 7/39 is reporting a tiny fire in La Mesa at Fletcher Pkwy and Amaya. It is right acress from the newer Alberston's and right on the bank at the freeway on-ramp. Ya know what that is? (It is not en ember from miles away) That is some a-hole
who threw out his/her ciggy butt. It has to be. People who do that should be shot. And it they do that in Santa Ana season when the county is on fire....should be shot twice.

Whew, just needed to say that.

I think my sis is now evacuating Alpine....I don't want to call because she's too busy and 12 days out recovering from major surgery.

Be safe all.....hang in there. And no ciggy butt throwing!

Monday October 22, 2007 3pm: Okay, I’m now packing my stuff and loading it in the car and making arrangements to move Michelle’s family along with Laura to Chula Vista. Michelle has two dogs that are now with us as well that are in the garage at this time that we will take along. Eddie and Vanessa are safe with Dannell up in Temecula. I’m just packing my bag of clothes that I usually have on me in between PQ and Michelle’s house and PICTURES….I also have “the football” with me at all times. “The Football” is the briefcase that has all the Jeff and Jer stuff in it from numbers to everything. I have my current bills that are due and my safe deposit key. So, that’s all I have on me!

Michelle and I have just been watching the news and waiting to see if PQ which is west of the 15 and south of the 56 (well, the area I live in) is going to be evacuating.

My mom is well in Chula Vista and has a few people with her making sure she and my Auntie Ding is okay.

Michelle has been in touch with all her family and sisters and they all have a “PLAN IN PLACE” just in case people get separated. They all know who to call.

For my side of the family, we’re all meeting at my sister’s in Chula Vista which is a little west of Eastlake which is being evacuated. So, we may be at my mom’s as well tonight.

HI All, I am in AZ and can't get a hold of my sister who lives on Lake Hodges...Does anyone have any info on that area or info on the Del Dio HWY?
THanks!

That area has been evacuated. My friend lives in that very area and was headed out earlier to my place. I haven't heard from them yet, so I'm wondering if traffic is backed up or something(?)

HI Pastherprime, thanks so much for the update. My sister got out but has not heard any info about that area. I will post if I hear anything.

Also, thanks to everyone else who responded to my question.

Traffic is absolutely horrible. In San Diego, there are only 2 major north/south freeways...the 15 and the 5. The 15 is closed due to the fires, so EVERYONE is on the 5. That's 250,000 people.

Mom was just evacuated (sigh). She's fine...I just wish she could get here to my house, but unfortunately she can't because the 15 is closed.

DAMN DAMN DAMN. I hate this. (sorry, I had to get that out)

Everyone,
I live in AZ but have family and friends in North County. My husband and I moved during the fires a few years ago. If there is anything I can do to help anyone from here, please let me know. I would be more than happy to make any phone calls or anything else that could assist any of you. You are all in my thoughts. Please font hesitate to contact me if there is anything I can do.

I live in RB, the south end. We packed up and left at about 7:15 this morning as the cops were on their way in to announce evacuations. It took us almost 3 hours to get from RB down the 15, across the 56 and up to Carlsbad on the 5. Got to our friends house at 10ish, got showered/changed/fed, and left about 1 pm because the winds and the nearby brush were making me too nervous. Now we're staying with family up in north Orange County. This is all so surreal.

Funny thing is I packed up photos and computers and stuff, but managed to forget my file box! Doh! Oh well.

Hope everyone is staying safe.

Ashya, I'm close to you also just south of 56 (XXXFH's neighborhood). Hope your folks are o.k. in Poway; my dad finally came and joined us here, he lives in Rancho Bernardo in Seven Oaks. He finally came here when it looked like the fire was going to some around the bend on Espola Road and possibly head southwest. Last I heard fire was at Lake Poway; but the news on Poway has been frustratingly sparse. Ashya, if you hear any updates about Poway would you let us know? When my dad drove over, he didn't hit any traffic; he came on Paseo Lucido (by RB High School) and then Carmel Moutain Road to Penasquitos, avoiding 56. Perhaps your parents will join you?

Close friends in Scripps have evacuated; if we need to go, we'll join them at a location in Mira Mesa. Car is completely packed but for now we're staying put.

Take care all,

Winds here in Lemon Grove are fierce! I was just standing in my back yard and watching the trees bend...and it's hot outside still. 100% Santa Ana.

Skies to the southeast are nasty.

I hope all of you guys are safe and sound - anyone that needs any help, PLEASE post and let us help you!

Hello from #84,

Sounds like everyone is doing okay? Surfing Texan, how are the contractions? Has anyone heard from Wabbit? Jake? With all of us in all parts of the county (and most of the county ablaze) I sadly worry that someone from the board might lose their house. I don't wish that...I just feel it. For those who have moved out of state, you are lucky!

Anyway.....When I read that Laura was going down to Rosa's house I thought that sounded pathetic. It would be very crowded, plus it's Tommy's family and Laura can afford her own lodging.

What about a sleeping bag on te floor at Hanni's between the soft serve machine and the meat slicer? Seriously, at this point I would think she and Dave could work something out for a day or two and she could stay there. The kids won't be in school afterall and they may be a little worried so Laura's naked kid-dances, tooting contests and candy eating may be what they need right now.

I'm in the Shadowridge area in Vista and it has been sunny and beautiful today until about 1 hr ago. The smoke is heading in but we are safe and sound with lots of others hanging out from Escondido & San Marcos(southern part) It's just too smokey but all homes are OK!
Prayers to all who are in harms way, lost their homes or have loved ones who did and of course, the brave souls fighting all the fires.

They're far apart, but still coming. I called the doctor who told me it might be more harmful at this point to battle the air quality since I have asthama so badly. So I'm trying to wait it out. I was up and moving around a lot earlier to get things packed up, but he still thinks they're stress induced...so I'm trying to stay calm. I know my other 3 are safe and out of harms way, so that helps at the very least.

I hope everybody else is doing well.

I'm about 3 miles from the Santiago Canyon fires, which are licking up against the back yards of homes up here in Orange County. My work closed down at 3 PM today, sent everyone home.

Ack, I think my mom is crazy! They drove up to Mission Viejo, and have now decided to turn around and head BACK to Escondido!!! I don't know what to do and can't seem to convince them that they should not be doing that. My grandma isn't doing so well in the car ride, but they were planning on going to Tustin...which isn't too much further north of Mission Viejo.

Does anyone know if they'll even be allowed back into Esco?

Camp Pendleton urges families to prepare for evacuation
CAMP PENDLETON - Camp Pendleton officials are recommending that military members and their families pack personal belongings and water in anticipation of an evacuation, the public affairs office said.

Residents of De Luz Housing, Serra Mesa Housing, San Luis Rey Housing and O'Neill Housing areas are now on notice for possible evacuation. The Provost Marshall and military police will announce an evacuation plan, routes and lodging by loud speaker.

Military members who have already packed and have places to stay, either on or off base, are authorized to do so.

"Safety is paramount: I urge all residents to take prudent precautions ahead of time," said Colonel James B. Seaton III, the Commanding Officer. "Do not wait to begin to prepare."

The Camp Pendleton information hotline is (866) 430-2764.

I just heard the end portion on NBC of mandatory evacuations in Del Mar near Via De La Valle near the coast...does anybody know if 101 is being shut down? Or what will happen to the Scripps Hospitals in Torrey Pines/La Jolla. 101 is my way out of here and those are the hospitals I need to head to if these contractions don't stop. Ack

Here is information about Solana Beach. Hope it helps; I'm not too familiar with that area.

Hi everyone. I would LOVE to hear just a friendly hello from all of us 1-116 or whatever we are...just to know that we're all ok. That includes Ms. Triangle!! ;-)

hey everyone..."member triangle" checking in. I hope you all are safe and well. I'm up in the O.C. near the Irvine fire, but I'm a safe enough distance away. My Mama, (aka Sapphie...I think she's #94.1), was not so lucky. My younger sisters and her were told to evacuate this afternoon (they live in Fallbrook). I'm praying that they are all safe and well. If anyone needs some info on the Fallbrook fire, here is a link...

OMG! I just got a phone call from my man! (One of his wonderful comrades loaned him a phone - it was SOOOO good to hear his voice!) He's doing well and is safe. They're in an area that's already burned out and he will be able to sleep lying down tonight, instead of slumped over the steering wheel of the truck. He said his back is really giving him some grief over that.

He's tired!

He said that tomorrow, the plan is they will go to Gillespie field. I'll try to get over there to hug him and also bring him a car charger for his phone, and then he'll have power again.

What a difference a call makes!!! I feel a HUNDRED times better!

Surfing_Texan. Don't worry! It's going to be okay!
My mom is in solana beach (On the street across from the fire station - Nardo) and is ahh, how do I put this? A little confused about her evacuation orders, she is a little older.

So I called the number posted Solana Beach Emergency Operations Center at (858) 720-4403, and the guy I spoke to was VERY nice, I gave him my moms address and he told me exactly what she needed to do (sit tight). I guess my point is, if you have any questions, or you are concerned, or need assistance being evacuated that number is by far better than 211 or any of the other numbers that are posted.

I just figured out how FH will get out of his 3-day breast cancer walk commitment. It's in less than 2 weeks, correct? It will somehow be fire related. He will say that Mooch (or someone/anyone else) is sick and and have breaething issues (asthma may be mentioned) as a result of the recent fires.

Of course the fires will be put out by then but there could still be a lot of junk in the air like last time. Just my thought.

Speaking of the 3-day and Barbara Lee Edwards......

BTW, where is the beautiful Kathleen Bade from KFMB News8....have not seen her today?

It probably does not make any sense...this fire is wierd and very unpredictable. :gle: It's hard not to watch and flip the channels for that very reason.

Hey (since I don't think regular shows will be on tonight) there is a movie with Ricki Lake on Lifetime (my hubby hates that channel) at 9pm that looks good. She plays a single woman in the dating world following a mastectomy. It looks good to me and I will leave my 24/7 fire coverage and try to watch it.

You know what's funny? He's probably cruising this thread looking for his excuse. We should probably give him a list of options ... let's see which one he chooses!

So far, from my memory, he has:

1. Tripped over a toy and twisted his ankle
2. Mom is sick and needs him with her
3. One of Mooch's kids is having breathing problems from the fire
4. ??? Anybody?

They're far apart, but still coming. I called the doctor who told me it might be more harmful at this point to battle the air quality since I have asthama so badly. So I'm trying to wait it out. I was up and moving around a lot earlier to get things packed up, but he still thinks they're stress induced...so I'm trying to stay calm. I know my other 3 are safe and out of harms way, so that helps at the very least.

I hope everybody else is doing well.

I'm only up to this page so far, but I just had to stop to say my prayers are with you, Tex. They are with all of you, actually -- it makes me feel so good to see the offers of help on this board.

Oh my goodness we are on vacation in New Orleans watching on the Internet. Our neighbors in Park Village in PQ are evactuated due to the freeways being closed and they may not be able to get out, w3 live 1 mile from FH's home. The people taking care of our dogs in Poway have been evacuated 3 times and are in Miramesa now.

New Orleans has had 12 inches of rain in 8 hours and is flooded, it is unbelivable for us. We are thinking the James Taylor song Fire and Rain is appropriate for us all now.

Take care all and hopefully you are all ok, I will check in as I can,

Monday October 22, 2007 7:45pm:

We're in Chula Vista by Southwestern College at my sister Rose's home. We just had La Bella's pizza. Eddie and Vanessa are up in Temecula and are just fine. I'm with Michelle and her kids just watching the news. My mom is doing great. My older sister Lola came down from LA to be here. My home in PQ has not officially been evacuated. I'm debatig if I should go back or not. I want to, but I think we're the next city to evacuate.

Laura is with her kids and is fine.

Randy is at Debbie's sister's house, but his evacuation has been lifted.

Emily is fine in PB.

I have not heard from Delana.

Jeff had a voluntary evacuation and I think the nearest hotel was in Santa Ana. Jerry is at home and has offered his home to all of us and other friends.

Michelle is wanting to take the dogs and her little baby to her sister's house in Santee. I'm getting really tired. I don't think I've slept at all in over 36 hours. I feel good, but I think it is finally catching up with me.

Has anyone heard from Jake or Boris??

Enduring the wrath of God. What I learned as a child? A house is NOT a home. It is a house - filled with "stuff" it is not the "family," it is not "real," it is "stuff..."

In the late 1960's, our "house" was destroyed in a Hurricane in Houston -- our "home" survived. The part of my childhood -- the mom/dad, laughter, memories, part -- survived. The bed, clothes, toys part was destroyed....so what? My family could make a new home -- we just needed a new house.

Today, we packed some worthless "stuff" and watched people lose their "houses" while they drove away trying to save their "homes."

My neighbors, Mark and Laura, wrapped their newborn son in a blanket, gave me a hug and drove away crying because their dreams were interrupted. But their dreams were the only thing to take a hit. Their "house" can be replaced -- the love and hope they carry in their hearts is irreplacable.

My house is "tagged" because of damage. My "home" is in the back seat of my car -- wrapped within the crying, beautiful eyes of my 16-year-old daughter.

I may be without a dwelling place --- but I'll never be without my "home."

Godspeed all of you....

God Bless You, Jake. My prayers are with you.

It is after 1 am and I am sitting here watching the fire off in the distance. Memories of the Cedar Fire as if it were yesterday. The fire appears to be just on the North side of the El Capitan Reservoir. The fear is that it will follow the same path as the Cedar Fire, cross Highway 8 and head down Harbison Canyon. The car is packed, we are ready to go if the fire gets close to Highway 8 but this way at least the kids can sleep while the hubby and I take shifts. Meanwhile we watch and we pray for all those in the path of these horrible fires.

I can finally see the flames from my house in El Cajon. If I look to the south you can see that the far side of Mount Miguel is raging. It is about ten miles away. The wind is blowing to the west, so if you are in the area take a look.

Here is a Google map that is updated pretty regularly.

just checking back in. it is now after 2am and i just got to my kids downtown. the hospital was able to minimize the contractions, but my mother in law called and said my 2 oldest woke up screaming for me so i basically told this new baby she had better not even think about coming out until her father can get back here...and now i'm with my 3 kids and mother in law. so i get to be stuck in bed here, but we're safe and the red cross is sending my husband home.

i put head phones on in the hospital, and refused to listen to news or people talking to avoid the extra stress. if anybody is awake, can they give me a run down of what areas are still in danger?

thank you so much to all of you for your good thoughts and prayers...the contractions have turned into mild cramping, so i'm hanging in here. i hope all of you and your loved ones are well

There is a lady on channel 10 calling from north El Cajon and she is giving out bad information. Rancho San Diego and Granite Hills is clear of fire. The fire on Mount Miguel is not coming any closer north. It is moving to the west.

I am in Normal Heights. My front windows and door face directly east. I can see the flames on Mt. Miguel. I had to stand on a chair on my porch to do it, but by golly, there they were. The acrid smoke smell is much stronger now than it was for most of yesterday. The winds, as they have been most of the time here, are calm. My Mom is in an evac site at El Toro High School (heaven knows where that is...I only know it's north of the power station in San Onofre.) Mom lives in Fallbrook, so they had to go through Camp Pendleton to get to the 5 and then head north. She couldn't get to me because I'm south. It appears from what I've seen on the tv news that it's highly possible that her house is gone.

I wasn't here for the 03 fires. This inferno is so scary, and here I am at 3:30 in the morning, alone in my quiet house longing for a hug from any loved one. I just need someone to tell me that it's going to be ok. I'm tired, I don't feel well from all of the smoke and I miss my family. Mind you, I'm totally fine...and I'm incredibly thankful to be out the projected path. I don't feel in danger. I just feel sad for everyone, and worried about my Mom at a strange high school so very far away.

Jake, your words are eloquent, calming and true. On Channel 10 hours ago, Jeanie Cavett said something so profound. "don't love something that can't love you back." Our houses cannot love us back, but our homes never stop loving us, no matter what the address.

I'm going to try and sleep some more. I really am ok, I just had to get some of this out. Sometimes being single is very difficult. I am a strong believer in God and prayer, and I have been praying for all of us, and will continue to do so. Thanks for letting me get some of this out.

Peace and safety to each of you. May the Hand of Providence guide and protect you, wherever you may be today.

Ok...so call me a freak, but here I sit at 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning wondering where the Charger game is going to be this Sunday? The stadium is the Red Cross command center? Anyone remember New Orleans? Now...not for a second do I think that our stadium is going to sustain that sort of harm or damage from our citizens...but what if they're still there?

Maybe I just need something else to think about ?? Anyone have any guesses? Will they play in Houston and make it a home game for the Texans? They're practicing in Arizona...perhaps there to keep it neutral?

Ok...I need food...be back later.

Listening to J/J (Jeff isn't in yet) and they are talking to the lady in charge of the Del Mar Fair Grounds. She's talking about the evacuees there...their pets, how great the local businesses have been etc. Lots of places bringing in food to feed those who are there, and Tubby chimes in "hey, will you ask them to save me a Rubios's taco?" It's NOT funny you idiot. These are people who very well may have lost everything. You already told us that you've driven by your house and it's fine...

Stay safe everyone! I've been thinking of you all and hoping all of our DC members are safe and sound. We moved out of SD last year and are now living in Columbus, OH. Last night on our news, the lead nightly anchor, Cabot Rea (Jeff's best friend and the guy his son Cabot is named after) was talking about the fires and played a telephone recording from Jeff on the 11 o'clock news. It really sounds beyond comprehension and even worse than the 2003 fires - that's so hard to imagine. Sending hugs and prayers out to everyone in SD County and actually in all S. Calif. right now. Please keep updating and let us out-of-towners know how you are.

Tuesday October 23, 2007 4:48am:

I fell asleep in Santee off of Mast at Michelle's sister's house. Last night you could walk outside in Santee and you couldn't tell that San Diego was on fire. There wasn't that "smell" of the fire anywhere near Santee. Well, that was last night. This morning I woke up at 3:09am and went outside to get my bag of clothes out of my car. The smell that wasn't there last night was there now and then I looked up towards the south and youi can see the enormous fire on Mount Miguel that wasn't there last night. It was somewhere towards the Jamacha area or 125 area. I went back in the house and woke up Michelle and her sister Shawna and Jeremy and they all looked out the window and were just shocked. Immediately, they started to make plans and called the other sisters and plans to go to the radio station later in case they have to evacuate.

I left Santee this morning around 4:15am and had an urge to go to my house in Rancho Penasquitos. For about 8 miles on the freeway going North on 15, I was the only one on the freeway going both ways. It was the strangest feeling I have ever felt. I go down in to PQ and it was like I was NOT suppose to be there. It was like I was going to check on my home, but it was so surreal that it didn't feel like I was going home, it felt as if I was visiting a place I've never been before. It was just odd.

I get to my house and open the garage and I walk in and it was just very awkward to walk into my own home after evacuating 12 hours earlier.

I need to call my sister's and to go over the plans again, just in case we have to evacuate my mom and Auntie Ding. A lot of stuff would have to happen to evacuate Chula Vista. I feel my mom is in the safe zone of San Diego, BUT THEN AGAIN, I thought Santee was last night as well.

ok, just a quick rant here, I'm so freakin' sick of seeing and hearing the media talk about how expensive some of the burned out or damaged homes are. Who cares? Whether it's a mobile home in Fallbrook or a home in Rancho Santa Fe, it was someone's home, no matter what the value. I live in an apt in Lakeside, but it wouldn't have made the loss any less if we had been burned out.

Just checked in with my parents, they're refusing to evacuate until it becomes mandatory. They're about 1.5 miles away from the new evacuation area in Escondido (Lake Wohlford and Citrus). They're about a mile away from Escondido High and are using the excuse that it's still open as an evacuation site and therefore still safe. I'm so frustrated with them and I can't do much since I'm up here in Seattle.

I'm glad you guys are safe though!

Tex, I'm so glad your hubby is coming home and your contractions have stopped.

I am trying to get my parents to come stay with me in AZ, but my dad thinks he has to go to work today. They spent last night in a hotel ballroom on cots. At least this time they knew what to pack when evacuating--last time they wished they had packed differently. Hopefully it won't get to Scripps this time though.

Everyone stay safe. I love seeing all the offers of help among our members--pay attention, LBM and FH--THIS is what family is all about!

I wasn't feeling well enough to drive them to the airport myself (I spent the morning in the PX buying just the essentials for the kids and then packing a change of clothes for each and a diaper bag...more clothes and everything else will have to be bought in TX)...so I just said bye to my kids and a Marine thats here with his family is getting them to their flight.

They'll be flying to Dallas, and driving to East Texas...about 130 miles.

ETA as of now is Wednesday night or Thursday morning

I wasn't feeling well enough to drive them to the airport myself (I spent the morning in the PX buying just the essentials for the kids and then packing a change of clothes for each and a diaper bag...more clothes and everything else will have to be bought in TX)...so I just said bye to my kids and a Marine thats here with his family is getting them to their flight.

They'll be flying to Dallas, and driving to East Texas...about 130 miles.

ETA as of now is Wednesday night or Thursday morning

Is Poway/Carmel Mtn/RB still evacuated? I work off Camino Del Norte just near Pomerado Rd. I did not go to work thinking maybe it was not a good idea to go.

The map on www.cbs8.com has it still listed under the "mandatory evacuation" area. I can't watch the live feed at work though, so I don't know anything further than that. My sister lives off of the 56, and she's still not allowed home due to the Rancho Santa Fe fire, but I would suspect that it's still closed off.

Thanks 11 for posting the list, but sadly the house I was looking for IS on that list. :(

Why are they not listing addresses in Ramona?

MissThany

The houses listed are only the ones that Channel 8 saw burned. I doubt that they were all that near Ramona homes to note which were destroyed and which were not.

I'm so sorry to hear that ElizabethAZ!

I think they haven't been able to do a listing for Ramona and most of RB simply because it's just too many. The news stated they're trying to stop the fires first and will do the count later, and the ones they have posted up are the areas the news reporters have gone and seen themselves.

DreamerGal, how's your man doing out there? Have you heard from him yet. I'm sending good thoughts to him and his buddies!

I was able to speak with him this morning. He is very tired. They (those in charge) changed plans around midnight last night, and my guy and his crew had to move their beds to another staging area miles away, so his sleep was severely disrupted. I will not be able to see him today, as they won't be going to Gillespie field. Rather, they will be going right back where they have been, at the tail end of the Harris fire in Potrero (where it initially started). They'll be overhauling, putting out hotspots and mopping up. He seemed disappointed that there were structures they could be saving but they were being sent to mop up, but I told him I don't mind at all that he'll be in a safe place where the fire won't turn around and hurt him! I prefer him to be safe, even if he's frustrated!

He was able to charge his phone for about a hour while eating at a Denny's last night. So, while he's got power, he's conserving and will text me as developments occur.

Thanks for asking. While I am disappointed that I won't be able to see him today, and he is saying he probably won't be released until the weekend, I am glad to know that he's safe. I can't WAIT to be able to see him and take care of him when he returns.

Hi all, #64 here. I actually have 2 locations. My apt is in Clairemont but Im in the process of moving to Chula Vista so Ive got stuff in both places. So far, I think Im ok. The Eastlake fires are pretty far east from me. But the 2003 fire got a block away from me in Clairemont. Im a worry wart. I like to say "Im not a pessimist...just a realist".

Please continue to pray for all the heros. They are doing a wonderful job and there's been very few injuries, thankfully.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you that have been evacuted or lost your houses or possessions....and with the firefighters and emergency personnel out there ~ we appreciate all they are doing to keep us safe!

I haven't seen it posted yet so I thought I'd put it out there - all San Diego County schools are closed through Friday. I also know that the Lemon Grove School District has closed schools through Friday, too.

My son had to come to work with me this morning - he's been a trooper and is sitting in the lunchroom playing his Nintendo DS and doing math and spelling worksheets. We'll hopefully only be working half days this week ~ and no one from my company has lost their homes so far (we had 2 coworkers lose houses in the Cedar fires).

You all be careful out there and please post here if you need anything AT ALL ~ we're all in this together!

Is anyone here in Valley Center currently? I would love some information as to what is going on. The news is seriously lacking in this region. Most of my husbands family is up there by old castle rd, and then over by saddleback rd. The house by saddleback has been evac. by reverse 911 calls and CHP coming through the neighborhood. However his father decided not to leave and we are VERY VERY worried about him. He said he would leave if he was in any danger, but wanted to hang back and get everything in order because of the conditions we worry that, he would not leave till it was too late. What a stupid thing to do!

Earlier today we tried to get over to the house using the grade (which is of course closed), deer springs rd, and right off the 15 by hidden meadows (which is of course closed too)His grandmother lives on old castle rd. and we drove over to help his grandmother who just had surgery, but they were not letting ANYONE in, AT ALL. Not to mention the smoke was thick thick thick

La Mesa-Spring Valley School district is closed for the rest of the week. Staff may have to report on Thurs. or Fri. to help clean the schools.

Still safe in El Cajon although the wind is beginning to stir. The sun is still shining...

Truth Seeker, I am so sorry to hear about your house.
The smoke is pretty bad in Vista this morning.

Mayor Sanders says we should stay home today and off the freeways, so I'm staying put. No word from the boss yet today, but he lives in Poway so who knows what is going on with him, anyway.

Surfing _texan, how are you doing today?

Wow, no school all week from some kids! Yikes!

Ya know, FH is a turd/idiot/dumba$$ and more. There is nothing going on in Santee. However, Lakeside may soon be a threat. But I cannot believe FH had to wake up everyone at Moochelle's sister's house with his over-reaction. Sheesh.

Since I don't listen to J&J, were they on this am with fire coverage? Was Jeff in Santa Ana for some reason? Were they tooting their own horns about what they are doing for folk? Also, sidenote: where is Kathleen Bade from Channel 8? Did she leave the station?

Be safe all. And sorry to Jake and ElizabethAz for your losses. May you have fond memories.

I'm trying my best to stay calm and upbeat. I sent my kids with my mother in law to Texas on a flight that left slightly under an hour ago. I'm happy they're going to be safe, and in a place where they can breathe good air..but it makes me uneasy in a sense as well to not have them with me.

Doc ordered me on total bed rest, no more than 2 pillows behind my back. So I'm in bed at the military lodge and my husband ordered me to stay here until he gets back, or they say our area is 100% safe. I'm not having actual contractions right now, but the cramping is getting worse.

But when asked how I am I'm responding with "worse than some, but better than most". I know there are many San Diegans, some of you included, who have suffered great losses, or are displaced, or are facing any number of other problems. My heart goes out to each and every one of you, and right about now God is probably wishing I would take a break and stop talking his ear off.

It seems that all agencies are working hard and working well together. Certainly the flow of info has been excellent (although there have been some issues...like Poway is okay/Poway is not okay to go back to. At this writing, i hear it is NOT okay to go back to)

But remember after the Cedar fires 4 years ago everyone was up-in-arms about how it was handled (mishandled is the word!) and officials vowed that things would be improved for the future. I think they have for the most part.

I am happy to hear the update on your health...as well as knowing your kids are safe. Now you can take care of you. And bedrest - kids = more Drama Club posting time! (I am a bit of a "glass half full" kind of gal.)

For all of you who have suffered such loss, I encourage you to think on the words Jake shared with us earlier. When we re evac-ing, my 4 1/2 year old was beginning to panic a bit. Fire is his biggest fear and he had seen waaay too much of the news.

I told him that we have a very simple way to know that God is taking care of us. I had him hold up his hand and told him to count everyone in our family off on each finger (including the baby on the way.) I told him as long as we have all 5 of us, then we know God is taking care of us. He assigned each one of us a finger (I assured my husband that he got "middle" only because it is tallest) and when my son panics again, all I have to say is "How do we know God is taking care of us?" It seemed to work for him this time around.

Kind of like Trixie asking for us DC Members to all count off! :)

On the news right now they are doing a news conference with the Mayor et al. They just said that the winds are intense and that the burning is also intense. The winds are fairly calm near my house (though a bit more breezy than yesterday), but there is A LOT more smoke today. The 2 big fires are Rancho Santa Fe and La Jolla. They are predicting that the 2 fires are going to meet up in the canyon between them this evening and it will be extremely dangerous.

The next 24 hours are critical and volatile. New fires are starting. Challenge is to make sure that your neighborhood is safe, so no one is being allowed back into their homes. They MAY lift some restrictions this afternoon, but very few. Situation is extremely volatile (I'm typing as they're talking). Winds are swirling from a westerly to an easterly direction causing dangerous flareups and fires burning back on themselves.

Chula Vista area: Burn area some 70,000 acres. Current structure totals are about 2000. Winds are light enough that air traffic can be up over Chula Vista. Critical communications are intact and working very well. There are currently 11 major fires in Southern California, 8 of which are in San Diego.

25 air tankers in So Cal now. 9 more on the way to total 34. Mix of Federal, Park Service, State and City air fighters.

All, you are still in my thoughts and Prayers. Jake, as usual you so eloquently state what is in many of our hearts, and what should be in the hearts of others.

Like so many of you, I feel helpless. If I can offer you anything at all, please let me (us) know. We're here to help in whatever capacity we are able to. Surfing Tex I'm so glad to hear that your husband is on the way and that you are safe. Dreamer Gal, your man is in my prayers as well, may he and his men be safe at all times.

My area at present seems to be safe. Other than essentials (water etc) the only things in my car are my family photos (from generations ago)that cannot be replaced. As long as I have my loved ones (two and four legged) with me and know that they are safe, I'm ok. Jake or anyone else that may be "displaced", I'll be happy to share my humble home as long as it remains safe. Be safe everyone.
