I'm not complaining -- in fact, I support the 12-step program by focusing on the first step: Drinking alot.

I also support Un-wed mothers.

Hey, I want to play. Can't we sue FH for posting irrelevant, repetitive, and false statements? "I'm a good man, in love, on a diet etc..." Isn't there some law about presenting false information? If not, maybe we can lobby for it so it would be in effect on Jan 1, 2009.

One can't sue for proven evidence.

The notion that FH is posting "irrelevant, repetitive, and false statements," is accepted as part of a "show" --

which is defined as: "the act of publicly exhibiting or entertaining; a remarkable show of skill"

Oh, wait.........hire an attorney..

Ok...it's officially January.

So...let's get to planning our January get together. I suggest something kid friendly and "safe" like bowling or a picnic at Balboa Park or a bon fire at the beach one evening.

What weekend in January is good for you? I am having surgery on January 18, so the long weekend is out for me (sadly). Of course, that doesn't mean that y'all can't do it without me! If that's the best weekend for everyone, then by all means, let's plan it (I'll even help plan).

I'll go about setting up a paypal account for ... oh wait, that was LAST YEAR's disaster...

In all seriousness, the few of us who have met have started to develop a genuine friendship (rut row, I sound like FH now)and we'd love to have you join us! Maybe we could even meet at Tubsy's bench...lol

All of you shy people (and you know who you are, yes YOU, the few who PM'ed me last time around and said that maybe you'd join us for January), come on out of hiding. We don't bite. We're downright friendly. We don't care what you look like, how old you are, how much $$ you make, what you weigh, whether or not you have hair and/or teeth. We just want to get to know our IF's. Don't be shy. You won't regret it!

"...i find myself strangely attracted to the name 'Carl.' Thought I don't personally patronize fast food places, the Carl's Junior Restaurant hauntingly calls to me as I drive by....I keep wondering, "will Carl post with us?" or sometimes, "I wonder what Carl is buying on the internet with his PAYPAL account?" and then, I oddly wonder to myself, "What chorus of '99 bottles of beer on the wall' is he singing with his kids in the supervan or the Excursion as he blathers away gallons of gas polluting the atmopshere driving home from Didneyland with the wife and his daughter and hopefully a friend of hers, cause gawd doggone, it sure would be boring to just pal it up with Ma and Pa there the whole three days!"

Will Carl cross the line (ok, maybe just to try to collect a couple of new clients....that would look good to the in laws, wouldn't it?) and come and post, and explain his total lack of true ethical conduct? We can only wait and see, my invisible friends...wait and see.

ok...no bowling! (Other than Superbowling...but I digress)

So, loosely, we're looking at the last weekend in January, which by my calculations, should be NFL free. Late January isn't the best weather in SD so we may have to think of a possible indoor place. My house is fine but it's not very big and I have a dog. A friendly dog, but a dog none the less, and some may be allergic or afraid of canines :)

I'm thinking inexpensive to free as we've all just come out of the holiday season (ugh). Suggestions? (Tubsy's bench? Lil Pepper Deli? Tubsy's yard to play on the skateboard ramp?)

Oh, how I would love that...but alas my law school loans are no longer in grace period, and all funds I have are being sent there. As a result, I do not have the money to fly (plus I need to save up money because I'm in a super expensive wedding that I've already had to drop $300+ on the bridesmaid dress alone...and I still need to pay for the wedding present, flights, etc.). Uncle Buck!!

Pretty much my favorite stupid movie until Napolean Dynamite.

Uncle Buck defending his niece who's accused of being a "dreamer" and a "sillyheart":

"I don't think I want to know a six-year-old who isn't a dreamer, or a sillyheart. And I sure don't want to know one who takes their student career seriously. I don't have a college degree. I don't even have a job. But I know a good kid when I see one. Because they're ALL good kids, until dried-out, brain-dead skags like you drag them down and convince them they're no good. You so much as scowl at my niece, or any other kid in this school, and I hear about it, and I'm coming looking for you!"

I've been studying properties of "Chaos", complexity and transport: Theory and Applications

Some authors propose a new theory to explain the formation of spiral arms and of all types of outer rings in barred galaxies. They have extended and applied the technique used in celestial mechanics to compute transfer orbits. Thus, their theory is based on the chaotic orbital motion driven by the invariant manifolds associated to the periodic orbits around the hyperbolic equilibrium points.

In particular, spiral arms and outer rings are related to the presence of heteroclinic or homoclinic orbits. Thus, R1 rings are associated to the presence of heteroclinic orbits, while R1R2 rings are associated to the presence of homoclinic orbits. Spiral arms and R2 rings, however, appear when there exist neither heteroclinic nor homoclinic orbits.

They examine the parameter space of three realistic, yet simple, barred galaxy models and discuss the formation of the different morphologies according to the properties of the galaxy model. The different morphologies arise from differences in the dynamical parameters of the galaxy.

This is a NEW approach to astrophysics.

Jake the Obscure! You love two of my top four movies!!! World's best pick up line for a guy to use: I see you're drinking 1%. Is that 'cause you think you're fat? 'Cause you're not. You could be drinking whole if you wanted to.

Hey DCIFs, you are all in fine form tonight! Off to bed now!

For Christmas I received a t-shirt that reads:

"Your Mom goes to College."

Pretty much my favorite gift of all-time!!

Love it!! Last year my daughter made my son a t-shirt that reads "Your Mom teaches College." It made us laugh and when he wears it (and yes, he is goofy enough to wear it) people always correct him and tell him what it should say.

My favorite gift of all time was a delicious bass.

Ok, now I really am going to sign off. Favorite Twilight Zone of all time is started five minutes ago. Like my kids. I pull crazy all-nighters during Christmas Vacation!

I had no idea that orbs had a hetero or homo preference. Does FH & LBM know this?

Disclaimer: HA HA! JUST KIDDING! And if I weren't just kidding, I should also say, "Not that there's anything wrong with that..." But I am just kidding and I know you wrote "orbit", not "orb". But your whole NEW theory made my head spin and lawdy, look what happens when my head spins.

Love that ^ and also love how he talks to that "Bugg" character. Come to think of it, Bugg kinda reminds me of FH in many ways.

The Slowgram is still running best of this morning. In fact, even the news breaks by LaDonna Harvey are from Dec 31. The brief moment I tuned in this morning, LaDonna was informing the world of listeners about the free bus service on New Year's Eve. Thanks.

I also watched parts of The Biggest Loser last night, just to see if Tubbs-A-Lot would be featured. This season, they have pairs of Losers (mother/son, father/daughter, best friends, etc). I believe that FH is so big, he wouldn't need to include anyone other than himself. He has a pair of buns that are big enough for two. He has a pair of ears that Dumbo is jealous of. I could go on.

Hi DC IFs, I have a question. Did J/J ever produce a good show, or were those of us who used to like them back in the day just as sucked in by them as their NEW breed of soccer moms is sucked in today?

I think they (and I mean Jeff and Jer -- not the entire crew because Laura has always bugged me) used to be good -- if good is defined as witty, sincerely caring about their community, and fresh. However, when I think about the NEW J/J, I can't imagine that people change that much and I suppose that it would be hard, in just a few years, to become so full of yourself and so cynical about listeners. I don't recall things from years past such as 10-minute lead-ins to really stupid, boring announcements and I also don't remember Jeff interrupting everyone or Jerry seeming so blatant about his disregard for the other members of the show and the listeners. But perhaps I was listening through rose-colored-ears (oh, where is wonk when you need an image?)

So, what say ye?

My hubby hates it (which drives me insane). So, this year, I'm totally missing it, because we still haven't got the second TV set up since we moved, so when it comes to the kids and us battling over TV, they win :) Well...last night, I start to make dinner and I realize hubby is asleep on the couch and all of the kids are off playing, so I quickly switch to the Sci-Fi channel, my plan is to see when Talking Tina comes on, because that is THE ONE I have to see every year...and so, I hit the enter button on the remote, and up pops sci-fi, and TALKING TINA with CREDITS ROLLING!!!! :bawl: I'm not going to be over this until next year.

My .02 cents is that they used to actually be all of the good things you said above. I saw a major difference when they switched from 100.7. Quite a bit of publicity came their way and that in and of itself can cause one to get a big head and the "celebrity complex".
Granted I could have been naive and just down right stupid but this is what I recall. Now I compare them to Mark and Brian on 95.5 KLOS in Los Angeles and J&J don't even come close. Most people can get Mark and Brian on their radios in the North County all the way down to Mission Valley and trust me it is well worth any static you may get here and there.

Good question, Readhead; very insightful (apologies to jake). When I listened to them, say 1999-2003 or so, it seemed fresh at first because I hadn't heard them before -- it took a few weeks to differentiate the J&J&FH&Randy voices, and all the stories were new to me. I was able to listen for only about an hour a day, though. Toward the end I began to notice and tune out Jer's rants (red meat, boobs, politics, etc.), the dragging out and repetition of segments, and Laura's increasing shallowness. Eventually I'd notice everything we talk about now, so didn't listen any longer.

J/J used to be really good. VERY funny, very caring and very "into" the community. I was a part of the first Human American Flag at the Stadium. I was there that morning...it was all so emotional and real. My Dad was in Iraq and I have to tell you...it was just so great to be there with so many other people who understood. J/J were totally accessible and genuinely nice then.

I don't know when it changed, as I moved out of state for 8 years, but I know that now, they just aren't. They sound tired (not they themselves, but the ideas and show).

ok...here's what I think. (UNLESS there was a crisis with Rosa or something like that):
FH always tries to show everybody how much he is changing so his first post of the new year will be how much MootShell has changed him because he used to be addicted to work and the blahg but since he found God(ess) he doesn't need work...he's happy to just be with MootShell and his children. He'll go on and on about how he's changed his priorities and how he's a much better person. The thing about addictions is that you HAVE to work a program or work with a professional to really change yourself. It's pretty evident he doesn't get that from his major weight loss in one month only to have the weight come back in one month. Nothing changes until you do. Even if he has put down his Blackberry and he's not working through his vacation, he's either "itching" to, or obsessively congratulating himself on NOT doing the obsessive behavior. He's not really looking at WHY he's so addicted to work (narcissistic personality) or why he has to congratulate himself and have his minions call in, email and blahg THEIR congratulations. When you have an addiction, you know you're getting better when you are ALL ALONE and you are crying and you say to yourself, "I don't need (fill in addiction) anymore. I can live this life on life's terms, not my terms. I can accept." I can't see FH doing this. When they return J&J will go on and on about how wonderful FH is and aren't they all just so supportive of each other! (Yet, they hadn't talked to LBM about her troubles until they went to the sales meeting in L.A. just a couple of weeks ago!...some supportive friends!) It's all a smoke screen!

Midlife crisis #1 or #2?

I have my own theory on what killed their talent: Reality Television.

It started with Survivor and grew into epic proportions with American Idol (sorry -- I hate that show).

About 6 or 7 years ago, they started to come on the air and spend hours talking about these shows. The problem was, if you're a fan of the shows and watched the program, you'd have to sit and listen to them recap what you already saw.

If you were not a fan of these shows (me), you'd get sick of hearing people talk about t.v. shows you don't watch.

It is at its worst with Idol -- because not only do they talk about the show, they play clips of the performances that people already watched or didn't want to watch. Then they make predictions about the show for that night, and the next morning do the same bit again!

It got to the point where 3 out of every 5 days were spent discussing the hours they waste watching television.

Now, I'm not a communications expert, but I'm gonna guess that playing television clips on live radio does not perfect the medium.

Add to that the fact that LBM spends all her on-air time talking about lame-ass shows that only 15-year-olds watch, or subjecting us to worthless crap about people in Hollywood -- that we can find ourselves on-line. And she does it twice a day!!!

This is why (in my humble opinion) they have gone so downhill.

I quite agree, Jake. I can't tell you how many times I just turned off the radio. I really don't see the draw of those shows, or the obsession the spewmembers seem to have with them. Further, I think they just got lazy and fell into recapping television shows because it was easy, took very little time, and fed their schoolgirl obsession with them.

But, you know, even when I thought they were great, I was informed that they were stealing other peoples material.

I can't remember the bit, but it cracked me up in the late '90s. Anyway, I was telling somebody about the bit, and this guy told me that Howard Stern did the bit a year earlier. How disappointed was I to find out that these two seemingly great guys weren't as original as they professed to be! From then on, I took what they were saying through a filter of suspicion that whatever bit they were doing was recycled material.

Printer and Jake, you both make great points. I recall them talking about Lost, which I've never, ever seen and had nothing to relate or connect to.

And Printer, you hit it on the head when you mentioned the staged calls and lying. The "Oh, this person just signed for Jingle Ball last night!!!" when anyone who has more than sawdust for brains knows that's not true, for example.

Hmmm....I think the "change" happened way before the station change. I never liked Jerk, but Jeff seemed endearing to me at one time -- but never since the whole Nina-left thing. Something in him just never seemed the same after that. But even back then, wasn't he orange and sporting a toupee? I guess that didn't matter to me as much when he was a likeable guy.

Tommy has one but it's not public. I tried to "friend" him months ago, but he never excepted. Boo. Eddie's also comes up when you search Tommy's name...also private (thank goodness).

I don't have a MySpace page, but just went to the site and searched Tommy Sablan, and Eddie's reads "Eddie pie[Loves Kaela] WAZ UP BITCH ". It would be a long time before my child tasted freedom if I was aware he advertised such a thing. I'm not the iron fist type of mother, but please tell me I'm not the only mom here who finds that inappropriate?

That's when I tried relistening again and found that their personal lives had changed. But you guys are right, the retelling of TV shows was still the same as in 2001. Yikes!

I don't think Jeff ever let on that he and Nina split. The first time I recall him mentioning it was after he hooked up with Kristen.

He even made a big deal of it, talked about how depressed he'd been, and announced their divorce. Then he talked about meeting Kristen, and that he's been on his "last" first date.

Having listened off and on since the beginning, I can tell you that Jeff has always had a mean streak, he just didn't show it as consistently as he has lately. It was one of the things that would turn me off their show.

Oooh, that's bad. Reelly bad! Well, since I don't have kids yet (the adoption process starts soon) I can say that I would not allow my kid to have a myspace page. Only if they were over 18 and out-on-their-own. Wow. I am sure Vanessa has one too. And since Tommy only seems to focus on her looks, I am sure that the page will be all about looks.

My 13 yr olds has a page. As with any social medium, there are dangers, however, he is closely monitored. Dad and I both have his login info and all messages have to be read before being posted. I don't have a problem with it, as long as he is being responsible. The minute dad or I feel that he's not, the plug gets pulled. (It also is the first thing to get taken away if he even talks back to one of us). But really, I'd rather him be at home on MySpace then out doing what his dad was doing at 13 :)

I hear what you are saying but I think myspace has had so many tragic things associated with it (when it comes to pervs and murderers) that I would just prefer it not be around.

I wonder what dear old dad was doing back then? Yikes!

However, the DC Band has a myspace page where they post their latest songs and gigs.

I, at first, was indifferent to MySpace, probably because I felt too old to participate. When I look at all of the things that "kids these days" have such as cell phones, Xbox, ipods, IM's etc... I really wonder what happened to the "old days". When I was a kid, I went to school, came home, did my homework (lots of it Catholic school for 12 years- not that you can tell now!) and then went outside to play until dark. "Cops and Robbers", kickball, lemonade stands etc... All gone now. I rarely see any children outside just playing in the sunshine anymore. I survived without all of the electronics (okay, maybe not my 8-track)and I am certainly healthier as an adult because of it. It is no wonder we have a problem with obesity in children these days. They never get out from behind the computers, xbox games, and cell phones anymore. I know what I am saying is not universally true for all children just an observation for the majority it seems.

That is how I remember it too. It was kind of like, "well I am done with her and on to the love of my life". For a show that calls all of their minions "family" and they share everything with the listeners, his split was like an afterthought and oh by the way "I'm in love" It must be something in the water over there. I'm in love, I'm out of love, I'm in love again. Maybe they should call it the "how to fall in...and out...of love in three days" show.

Hi mnguy, my friend told me about Nina cheating on Jeff several years ago, I didn't really believe it, because nothing of marital troubles was ever mentioned on the air, and then about a year later, BAM! he's talking about Kristen.

My friend was working at Nordstrom at the time, and, yadda yadda yadda, she somehow knew this story: Nina went away on a "Girls Only" ski trip to Colorado or someplace like that. Nothing unusual about that; she did those kinds of girls trips all the time.

The weekend she got back home, Jeff found newly developed pictures she'd tucked away, and she was in a hotel room getting it on with some guy. Splitsville after that.

That's the story i heard, and of course, at the time I had NO FRIENDS like those on the DC board to share this with!

I'll stop being shy! I'm scheduled for my c-section February 10th so any day before that is definitely best for me. :)

I'm not up for a bonfire on the beach, but definitely some park would be great, we could pot-luck it or bring our own foods...except for the brownies...mmmm brownies. Actually, any place I can park my pregnant tush would be just great.

I just want to add that crime in the last few decades has actually gone down - the reporting of it has gone up. The media takes those reports and gets crazy headlines and viewer/readership goes up. It's good business to scare people (just ask our President).

Now, I'm not saying that I'm going to let my kids play unsupervised but I am saying that we are a bit brainwashed in this area. I bet 99% of kids in our country would be just fine playing until the lights come on. It would be good for them. But we now think that 1% is an unacceptable percentage of people who might get injured or worse. But at what cost?

Just something to think about.

I actually just had this conversation today. I am aware that there was just as much if not more, child abduction, etc, "back in the day". However, I believe there was and still is A LOT of stuff that happens that does not get reported on the nightly news. Just last night as I was washing dishes thinking on the fact that all of my kids were running around the house playing instead of out on the street, that I can clearly remember three seperate occasions before age 12 where I was aproached and probably close to abducted. One guy had nothing on from the waist down when I naivly walked up to his car at age 7. He actually got another girl in our neighborhood. She got away alive. Two other times I was asked for directions and then asked to get in the car to show them the way. This was all just things that happened with "strangers". Crime may have gone down, but I had enough happen to me in my childhood to make me feel safe only if crime dissapeared altogether.

1. I avidly tuned into the morning show from 2000 - 2005. I liked Jeff because he was from the Midwest and we had many common experiences. I also like listening to tales about his kids. Sometimes they went on too long, but not too lengthy for me to change the channel. Around that time, I began driving my pre-teen stepdaughter to school and back daily. J and J filled up many long silences and at that time, they weren't risque enough to change the channel.

2. Many DC posters vigilently monitor their child's computer use and other communications. More power to you! I am not quite that stringent for two reasons. First, my own children are 21 and 23. Even when they were younger, our communications were very open. Please don't take that to mean that I was clueless or reckless; we just discussed "adult" topics as they arose. BTW, both of them lost their virginity long after the age I did and have been very responsible handling such matters. Secondly, I work full time with adolescents and have for almost 20 years. On a daily basis, I hear cursing, read somewhat inappropriate notes, and am aware of other such topics being discussed between kids. And these are the "good" kids! Straight A's, exemplary citizenship...the works. I would be surprised if one in ten of their parents were aware of what their kids considered appropriate for everyday conversation. So, I "fail to hear" much of it and only get involved when words or actions are dangerous or hurtful.

P.S. The stepdaughter mentioned above IS 90% unmonitored as far as computer and phone usage goes. She is a quite immature 16-year-old, but I would bet that her parents would still be very surprised. No one wants to listen to my take on the subject...

And that is my friends, what we call "karma". Jeff's talk is what started turning me off on the spoogegram. He was so into his church and his kids, and yet how did he hook up with Nina. That would be on a Y95 cruise while he was still married to wife #1. A friend of mine was on the cruise and let me in on that tidbit. Everytime after, when I heard him mentioning his church or religion, or Nina or his kids [by current wife or former], it bugged me.

I try very VERY hard to not forget what "being a kid" was. When something comes up, that my first reaction is to be appalled at, I immediately try to put myself in that mindset and relate. I know that outside of my presense, the kids will say and do things they wouldn't do in front of me. It happens. My biggest concern is that they take other people into consideration, ahow respect, aren't mean or vengeful, and are always "aware". Umm...where was this going...I'm less concerned with what my kids are dong or saying and more concerned with what is being said or done TO them, which is why I, personally, monitor.

I have a very different spin on the kids playing outside thing, and I do NOT suggest that people adopt my take on it because our backgrounds are far too different. I only post this here because I sometimes look at my American in-laws and how they guard my nieces and nephews and imagine the outright heart attack they'd have had growing up in my world. I grew up in Belfast at the absolute height of the troubles as we so euphemistically called the war that raged on around us. Bombings, shootings, rioting were part of my everyday life, and we walked to school and played outside and learned when to duck and cover. Innocent bystanders got killed at times, including some of my school mates, but it would be impossible to live every minute of childhood inside hiding from shell fire. Here's the kicker -- although we lived in the midst of all of that violence and terror, there was very little street crime or violence unrelated to the troubles. When my husband got a job offer in the states and we told our family members (some of whom eventually moved here, too) that we would be moving to California, they were worried for our safety. Isn't that a hoot? They thought every bit of California was like Compton with gangs because that was the media image.

As for our kids (both born in US); they were allowed more tether than many of their peers. They both have myspace accounts (and if I were FH I'd list the account addresses here along with photos and info on where they both are right now). Their accounts are private, which means only invited friends can view the profiles and contact them. But even with that, once my daughter was contacted by an adult male who was using his cousin's account (and therefore could access my daughter's profile). He made himself known as a pedophile and my daughter printed out everything he sent her and with my husband beside her, called the police to report him. I don't want to give more detail here than that, but let's just say this man is not currently able to talk to young people (or anyone) online right now. My point is that she knew what to do and knew she could come to us for help. Communication is important!

Speaking of online communiques, I can't wait to see what FHs next blahg will read. I'm quite confident it will be the "Hallelujah! I'm no longer a workaholic!" schtick. Yawn.

I agree about crime back in the day. When I was 8 or 9, I walked down into the canyon with a friend. We were approached by a man that said there was a bunch of change (lots of $$$ to a kid back then!) down in an area known as the "swamp". We followed the man and something just did not feel right so we bolted back to my house. Yes, the man chased us to the house and yes, we got in safe. Part of it shows that crime has and will always be a sad part of life. My parents taught me well and always told me to trust my instincts. On this occassion, it paid off. I am a firm believer in you have to experience life on life's terms- the good and bad, in order to grow. I have always trusted my instincts since then and they have not failed me yet.

Do not trust MySpace, even if you say it is monitored.
There is a program out there (name escapes) me that you put on your computer and lets you see everything and everyone who has used it as well as their passwords, etc. That way you can really monitor activity. Even your kids IM accounts. Still can't think of the name of the program though.
I heard it on an LA radio station.

I personally would never go that far, not unless he had proven to me that there was a reason to. So far, so good, and believe me, there HAS been some stuff that *I* at 13 would have gotten rid of :)

I clicked over to the suckgram while my ALL NEW AND LIVE DSC was on commercial. I was shocked when the Best Of bit they were playing included DaveCain! I left for work at 6:45 this morning. Turned on DSC. Do you know when they went to commercial? At 7:10, as I was in the last 2 minutes of my drive to work. Yes, 25 minutes of LIVE and NEW radio. And it was entertaining!

I clicked over to the suckgram while my ALL NEW AND LIVE DSC was on commercial. I was shocked when the Best Of bit they were playing included DaveCain! I do wonder who picks the best ofs...if *I* was newly seperated and still bitter I'd probably be a little upset if my "best friend" producer through those on the air.[/QUOTE]
--------------------------------------------------------------
I was listening also. When they called Dave, he was on a business trip. Laura didn't even know what he was there for, and almost seemed to forget where he was. (Victorville). And she indicated that she liked it that way. My boyfriend and I always discuss our days at work in the evening, I just don't get it. I guess she was too obsessed with drugs, alcohol and lottery scratchers. Anyway, it was kinda sad, Dave seems like a down to earth, mature guy

I think they used to be good (never LBM). I used to actually laugh at stuff they did or made Tommy do. that was a long time ago though. I think I started listening in 1988 or 89. Think about how many times they've switched stations: Y95 (good - I used to even tell friends to listen), B100 (good), Q106 (I think they started to suck here), Star 100.7 (sucked), Star 94.1 (suck heavily). When did the big bucks really come for them? Was it the Q106 switch? Back in the day they used to be better at selling their "average guys" show - even Jerk. Now they drag everything out so they don't have to do anything.

Remember when they were at Jack and they claimed they hated the fact that everything was under such tight control, they did not have the freedom to do what they wanted (that darn monkey!), and they had to play more songs than talk through the break? Well, it seems to me that they realized, after they moved to 94.1, that they did not have such a bad deal back at Jack. They now had to work again. They just got lazy!

They did it again this morning at about 5:45 a.m. - re-ran the news headlines and traffic report from Dec. 31.

I am out walking and over at the gym from 5:45 to 7:30. Thank God the DSC comes on at 6:15. Before then, if I can't stomach the JnJ replay and I've already heard the DSC bit, I will listen to Bill Handel on KFI. Am also giving the Mikey show more attention.

Jumping back to a previous topic:

When an adult defines 'friend' and 'love' it usually has one meaning. When 10-15 year olds define the same words, they have quite a different concept in mind. FH's son probably does think that he is a lover boy. I have often heard kids say, "I only let friends see my profile," - meaning someone they have talked to anonymously for less than an hour. So even if a responsible adult holds their children to specific internet rules, there may be a big misunderstanding as to what those rules actually mean.

Hasn't FH made several comments regarding his daughter's My Space? Shocked or proud they didn't sound appropriate. And if FH realized that, I can only imagine what was said.

I agree with your assessment!Back then when everything was controlled, no one caught on as to how untalented and uncreative they were. Now that every decision is theirs to make, they have nothing to give. I think money jaded the shamgram as well as overconfidence (we're too good not to be liked...they will continue to listen because we're big deals no matter how much we suck)

I also agree with Texasgirl about how differently adults and teens/youth nowadays conceptualize ideas. I always try to set up scenarios to make sure my students and I are on the same page. But as far as parenting, you should know your kids the best and only you can decide on how strict/loose you are with their myspace account.

I hope everyone is having a great year so far. SDGirl, it'll get better :)

It is REASONABLE to expect that after 2 bad days at work, it will get better : )

Answer to Question 1: Yes. Particularly since they return at the same time as American Idol. Get ready for day after day rehashing of bad talent pretending to be good talent (hey, that line serves a dual purpose: it describes AI and J & J.):)

Question 2: No. A bad day at work is the day for which you receive remuneration. They pay you for the crap they dish out while you are trying to do your kob.

A good day at work is a phychological lift. The old, "mind over matter" - You don't mind your bosses -- cause they don't matter.

Hi Everyone.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned their goals for the New Year but one of mine is to be healthier in life this includes working out, cooking, and drinking more water. In my process of trying to find a website to help me accomplish these goals I came across this amazing website www.sparkpeople.com

Im not one to preach about how cool a site is but this is a great website if your looking to eat healthier, need motivation, interested in nutrition, or wanting inspiration to work out. The website will making food plans to help you loose weight and come up with work out plans. I'm completely 100% in love (well maybe not love but addicted) to this website, almost as much as gotapex.com haha...its really cool and I just wanted to share it because I feel like its already helping me accomplish my goals...

Anyways if you do go to the website and really like it and sign up add me as a friend...my user name is none other than....iamsheens

Anyways now back to the regularly scheduled conversation...

Has anyone ever had a gall bladder attack? Oh LORD, this could possibly be the worst pain I've ever been in. I have to have an ultrasound on my liver and gall bladder tomorrow and then I'll know if that is what is causing my pain.

It hurts right under my rib cage on the right side and on my back at the same place (sort of at the bottom of my shoulder blade. It comes on as soon as I eat anything, even bland things. It hurts really bad. They say pregnancy can cause gall bladder issues, so they did some blood work today and I have that ultrasound tomorrow. I'm afraid to eat anything, but I have to eat because of the baby. I feel like crying. :(

Here in the Team DC Drama club, we are smart and savvy to the goings on of the Spew Gram.
Anyway, a few things we can keep track of in order to exploit their cover ups:
1. How many vacation days they will get in 2008.
2. How many times J or J is late beyond the 0600 hour.
3. How many times FH says "Holy Balls" or refers to God.
4. How much harassment, intimidation, or coercive tactics they try to use on us.
5. How many time LBM makes you want to puke by whining.
6. How much time is left on their contract......

any other sigestions?????

A gallbladder "attack" is usually acute cholecystitis -- which, is a sudden inflammation of the gall bladder that usually causes severe abdominal pain.

You may have gallstones (which occur more frequently in women than men). These are hard, pebble-like deposits that form inside the gallbladder. (By the way, gallstones are more common during pregnancy.)

Good Luck!!

P.S. On a different "health" issue....I HATE the common cold.

It is nothing but annoying. You can work, and function, but you hate every minute of functioning with the dizzy head, runny-nose, and bad-sounding voice.

Not a Gallbladder issue....but still annoying!!!

Made my husband sit for about 3 hours with his fist in the side of my back (apparently on my kidney!) because outside pressure relieved a little of the pain. They didn't know until the CAT scan what it was. Never care to go through that again. Sorry you're in it while pregnant...can't take the good drugs for pain. Hope they find a way to make you comfortable soon!

And Jake as a recent recoveree - colds DO suck.

I find it a sad irony that we, the "living," host a "celebration of life" ceremony for the not-living.

As if the departed wouldn't want to say, "Hey! I'm not living!!! Quit it with the 'Celebration of Life!!'"

Why is it we don't call it a "Celebration of Death?"

Cause we're celebrating that we, who are still alive, and you, whom we used to love greatly, are not on the same team anymore.

I understand your points jake. Haven't put a lot of thought into what will happen when I die, but don't really think I want anything. Then again, these things seem to be for the people that are here, and sadly at times, these are the only times that they gather. And really, you only have so much control over what people do while you are alive, and you don't gain much more when you are dead.

I believe that you are indeed far too intelligent and wise to go anywhere near XXXXXXL. (or is it XXXXXXS?? or is it EXCESS?)
I did not believe you did. It was just the thought that came into my head was beyond revolting and it was either months of therapy bills or take the 1st step in recovery and admit that I was powerless over the thought and just kick the habit so to speak. I felt much better after my post. Outside of somewhat intelligent, I am not money hungry nor too young and stupid to fall for his tricks : )

It's easy! Look up above - there's a toolbar-type thing that lists: User CP, FAQ, Member List, Calendar.....

Click on Member List and then you'll see a bar with all the alphabet. You can either search by the first letter of the screen name or you can go over to the far right and there is an option called "Search Member" (right under all the page numbers available).

If you click on "Search Member" you can enter a screen name and search from there.

My new best friend Carl is probably trying to collect ISP numbers. When construction in the area slows down, and god knows, by the skin of his teeth, Mr. "I'm an attorney, if you are possibly looking for an in-house attorney, i can send my resume with my Dad as my primary character witness" could use a side line to bring in some chump change. FH probably didn't even comp him Jingle Ball tix. Times are tough in this construction office/wish I were a big time attorney office in Santee.

Carl...you never call, you only pm, you never post, you never e-mail, you never serve writs or deliver lawyerly diatribes. I'm starting to think our romance is going sour.

I work with educators. I redesign curriculum, write textbooks, and test learning strategies. I teach 12 to 15 year-olds on a daily basis.

So many of these kids are willing to do anything to "be smart."

I've a PH. D in Instructional Design and have done this work for more than a decade in Compton, Inglewood, and South-Central ....but all I "know" is worthless against a gang-bang family that is convinced, "our kids need to support the family."

There are so many kids out there that "represent" the family's "code," it becomes impossible to educate them. One can only hope to remove them from the influence of their ignorant parents.

"STUPID lasts forever."

I just want to save a few, special, little ones that think they can "do it." I just want to let these children know, they are not defined by their parents.....they are afforded the opportunity to go beyond their parents.

Maybe I should have done a radio-gig that pays $2 million a year......Maybe I'm a loser and these guys are "STARS!"

No.....I don't think so........I'd take my life over their "life" any day....

Rehab: It's like time out for kids!

I HATE "time-out." Do we really want to teach our kids that being "alone" in a quiet state is "punishment?"

I want my kid to cherish being alone and contemplating life.

I want my kid to treasure time with herself...void of interruption.

I want my kid to value solitude.

So, in an effort to do the "modern" parenting game,....I'll "punish" my kid by making her spend time "alone," "in silence."

WRONG!!!!

Time alone is a gift we give to our children. It teaches more than words teach.

To make time alone a "punishment," is a weak form of parenting.

When I die, I want a big old Irish wake with Irish dancing and plenty of whiskey. It's not so that people will talk about how great I was (I already know how great I am :P ;) it's to keep my kids and relatives busy for a few days while they get over the shock and ease themselves into the idea that I'm gone. Whenever I've lost loved ones, even those who I knew had very little time left, there was a sense of shock and finality when they did pass. Now, it would be sad indeed if I didn't get plenty of Irish dancing and whiskey drinking in with my family before I fly the coop, but when I do fly away I say, "Party on Wayne! Party on Garth!"

Jake, at the risk of falling out of like with you, please DO TELL what "punishment" you use?

We don't Punish. We discipline.

A short time out is used when a child in our home is "out of control". They are not locked away in a room. They are told to sit down, in the family room, quietly for a few minutes until they are ready to behave. That is what *I* meant by time out, when I first through out the "like rehab for kids" line. Our home is not a prison, there is no solitary confinement.

I thing there are times for "Time out..." if you or your kid are the kind who goes up and over the top in anger saying stuff or going for the gold ring in arguments...sending them out of your sight for a period of time to cool down is not a bad idea.

I couldn't agree more. There is nothing like an old Irish wake. The only bad part is the hangover that some get after the fact! I also agree that it gives your loved ones something to do during those inital days. Not that they won't have weeks, months, and years full of loss but there is something soothing about it. I have also found that it is a time that you hear stories that you have not heard in a long time or share something about that person that maybe some people did not know. When my grandmother passed, she had requested that there be no funeral etc... That was also the plan for my grandfather. Soon after she died, he changed his mind. He felt it was important that the family come together to "celebrate" their life. When he passed, we honored both. There was finally some sense of closure for her and one heck of an Irish wake for the both of them.

Please! I would never presume to tell any of you your parenting is "wrong."

My point is, too many parents "react" to behavior and fail to "predict" behavior.

"Time-out" seems to be a contemporary "reaction" to a child's behavior. The child talks back, or cries and has a tantrum.....as if we are shocked by this?

A child wants one thing: His/her way.

Tell me how sitting alone in a chair teaches a child to relinquish this? "You sit there alone Johnny, until you figure out what mommy wants from you!" Johnny will NOT figure it out.

What "punishment" do I use?

I sit WITH my child and say, "We're going to sit here together, until you can calm down. After you calm down, we're going to figure out what to do, to not be upset. And we're going to talk about daddy's anger about your actions"

"Punishment" (also known as discipline), is all about changing behavior -- not penalizing behavior.

A 4-year-old, requires a teacher of new behavior -- not a punisher of past behavior. Too often we treat our kids as if they are adults that lack skills -- rather than humans without skills.

I'm feeling as if I've offended many good parents. Please allow me to explain in greater detail.

When I was young, my parents would shout, "Go to your room!"

My room was not the site of punishment -- it was a place to avoid further punishment.

I think it is vital that children be taught, one level of punishment is avoidance of further punishment. My "room" was a sanctuary of comfort and peace. My parents would send me there whenever they were too upset to deal with me.

I learned, my room was a place of security -- a place where I could be "me" void of punishment. When things calmed down, I would be called out of my room for a "talk."

The "talk" was, or included the subsequent punishment.

I have a passion toward believing children behave in a selfish manner because that's what serves them best. Our job, as parents and adults, is to teach them, selfishness is not wrong -- it is limiting. It prevents the joy of others. It prevents us from experiencing the joy of others. And, it makes us believe we are better than others.

Selfishness is not a "punishable" behavior -- it is a "correctable" behavior. Does your "time-out" teach this? If so, I stand corrected.

Hmmm. You have some good points, Jake. I've always felt the ten minutes to half an hour that my daughter spends in her room lets both of us NOT say stuff we don't want to say out loud to each other. And you haven't offended me, in the least. It's a different way of doing things, and you have a great point.

I can only congratulate myself in that I DON'T do what my parents did...My Dad would "Spank" us with a three foot long, two foot wide board for infractions. And if one of us (4 girls) did something and didn't own up to it, we ALL got spanked until the guilty party admitted to it.

The "Selfishness" thing is something I've always figured was normal, too. but I consider myself Ayn Randian in a lot of ways, and that the selfishness in my daughter would take a turnaround as she matured and saw that her "selfishness" or her win situation could be better served by making "Win" situations for those around her.

But I tend not to be able to take the straight line when there's a meandering path, even in this.

Practically speaking, I'm now kinda miffed at you, Jake. Why didn't you get out here and tell me all this about ten years ago? You stinkpot. (he he)

By the way, for planning purposes, we are looking at early afternoon on that Saturday. That may help some of you decide if it will fit in your schedules! Kids, pets, spouses, neighbors are welcome. By the way, if you'd like to come to the get together but you'd rather us not know your DC identity, you can just use your real name, or a made up name. (Sally Lou instead of JJHater4Life) I'll have name tags available and you can put whatever you want. That way, anyone who is concerned about THEM finding out who WE are may have a bit more peace of mind. It may also protect you from us if you don't want us to know that "you" were there!

Selfishness is not a "punishable" behavior -- it is a "correctable" behavior. Does your "time-out" teach this? If so, I stand corrected.

1. I don't believe punishment and discipline ar e the same thing.

In punishing, which is what I got as a child, I learned nothing except fear. Don't do this or that or you'll get spanked, or whipped. I was never taught why my mom was upset, I only knew not to do it again because I'd be in pain.

In disciplining, a child learns what was wrong with their actions, how it affects them and those around them and what a better way to handle a situation would be. They understand WHY not to do something, beyond "I'll get in trouble for it".

2. I believe my time out DOES teach this. The reason I believe that is because of how and whenit is used. My older children no longer require them (5, 7 and 13). My soon to be 3 year old, she's a different story. Her time-out consists of a cooling down period, where, when she is calm enough to talk, we'll discuss what she needs and how we can go about getting those needs met.

Perhaps some parents DO jump to a time-out for any offense. Hitting, screaming, running, whatever. If it is a "go to" reaction, I don't think it's going to do much more than get them "out of your hair", which doesn't "fix" or teach anything more than going for the belt would.

3. My offence was only taken at being called a "weak" parent for using a time-out method. I think anyone who has met my children would agree that I am not a weak parent. I believe weak parents are those such as LBM, whose children walk all over them and everyone around them, or who scream, yell, or hit, in order to make their child conform.

Ok...I'm done...I think we were all safer with politics and religion as topics of conversation :)

Thank you Trixie, and yes my orbits are now much more comfortable.

1. When I was a child in the 60's the worst thing my mom could say to discipline me was, "I am going to call your teacher and tell her what you did." I would collapse in shame. Later, when I was a teen, my near flawless record worked like a charm. When I said I was going to the library to study (instead of smoking something special and going roller skating) people believed me.

2. My first child was easygoing and rarely broke the rules. Then Spitfire came along. When she was a toddler I knew I had to gain the upper hand or life would be hell. There were time outs, but here is what worked the best. I would gently cup her chin in my palm while using my strong parent voice to get my point across. She HATED having to hold still under my control. If she moved, the whole process started over. I didn't use physical force, so when she finally surrendered it was over.

3. Funerals. I am an agnostic/athiest so I try to live every day in this world to the fullest. I'm not spending this life only in preparation for the next. (Of course, I might be wrong, so I do endeavor to be a good person.)

My mother died last year and we had a small funeral service at the nursing home. Most everyone in attendance was an Evangelical Christian. Many minutes of the sermon were directed solely at me, pleading that I accept Christ so that I could see my mother in heaven. It was painful and embarrassing to say the least. It didn't work, either. I know intentions were good, but it was the wrong time and place. So if you find yourself planning a service, please consider loved one's feelings. If I attend a less personal funeral, I go with the flow. But this was my mom...

I'm not in a good place right now, so I will finish later.

TexasGirl,

As an Evangelical Christian, I am mortified at what you were forced to experience. I am so very sorry. It was entirely inappropriate and utterly wrong. We're not all like that. I promise. I'm just so sorry you had to encounter such strong armed tactics at such an incredibly vulnerable and painful time. No one that I know would ever ever ever think of doing something like that. I know it probably doesn't help, but I truly extend apologies to you.

Hi Girl from Oregon,
I'm sorry you are in so much pain! We're all thinking of you today! (But girlfriend, if you suddenly have a husband that gets flown back from Iraq to tend to you and you begin to have some heart problems, I pity you because none of us will believe you!)
Stay well and I hope you're brought some relief soon!

Laughing out loud here - my co-workers are going to think I'm looney!

I, too, sent best wishes to our GirlfromOR....pain while you're pregnant is such a b*tch!

Mea culpa. "Weak" was a poor word choice.

I love Judge Judy *watch her every night) and I am fond of ya too, listener13, but you missed JJs most famous comment that seemed to be made for Moochelle..."Beauty fades, but dumb lasts forevah." (That's JJ NYC accent)

Oh, and Rod Luck has a beautiful and very smart wife, Sally. When I worked at KUSI a zillion years ago and met her several times I would kid Rod (a sweetheart when you get down to it) and say,"How in the world did you get a gal like her?"

Now Leitner may be between wives at this time.....I dunno.

And true, a lawyer would not send a PM message through a site if he were real. It would come in the mail.

I recently had two Rod Luck sightigs, and he was with this younger gal. One sighting was at the Charger game and I over heard someone ask if that was his wife. I don't think he replied. The second sighting he was getting into a cab the morning of the 3K Komen race (Balboa Park), again with this same girl. I thought it was very odd.

Shello since you have met his wife is she super young - early thirties? Thanks!
