- was it "the one"????
I'm happy to report that it wasn't "the one"....happy because now I get to try out the next recipe on the list which was submitted by Daisy :)
Although it wasn't the "the one" it was a raging success as evidenced by the fact that there is only one slice and a few crumbs left...my friends were very willing guinea pigs :)

4 large baking potatoes
2/3 cup butter or margarine
2/3 cup flour
6 cups milk
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp white pepper
4 green onions -- chopped and divided
12 slices bacon -- cooked and crumbled
1 1/4 cups cheddar cheese -- shredded and divided
8 ounces sour cream
Wash, dry and prick potatoes with fork. Bake in 400°F oven for 1 hour or until done. Let cool. Cut into half lengthwise and scoop out pulp; set aside. Use skins for something else, such as stuffed potato skins. Melt butter in heavy saucepan over low heat; add flour, stirring until smooth. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Gradually add milk, cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture is thickened and bubbly. Add potato pulp, salt, pepper, 2 Tbs. green onion, half the bacon and 1 cup cheese. Cook until thoroughly heated. Stir in sour cream. Add extra milk if necessary for desired consistency. Serve with remaining green onions, bacon and cheese.
there you go! i'll let you know how it comes out!!
Thank you! I'm going to give that a try this week, I think.

Oh, and by the way, for those who have asked...no, I don't have any alliance with Tom Gamboa and I don't work in a print shop. Don't desire to follow Voltemort. Not a Potter fan -- I know, that makes me one of 13 people who didn't enjoy Harry's stories.
I also have never watched American Idol, Survivor, Dancing with Anyone, The Apprentice, Deal or No Deal, The Bachelor, or The Sopranos.
I would be #14. Never read a HP book, never saw a HP movie. As much as I hear of people loving them, I don't feel I am missing anything by not reading/seeing.
As for the rest of your list, I have watched [read: it was on in the background while I was on the computer] maybe two or three AI episodes [and not the entire episode]. I have seen portions of Survivor only while venturing into the TV room where my husband and SIL were holed up watching it. Have never seen The Apprentice, Deal or No Deal, The Bachelor or The Sopranos. I also have not seen an episode of Sex in the City or the movies Pretty Woman or Titanic.
I'm stuck with leftover frozen pizza as my husband is driving to Vegas tonight for the CES show. Bummer!
Oh my, bring back memories. I used to go to the CES show every year.
Were you living in a hole today Jake? Don't know where you could have been that did not have the game on. I can't wait to hear where you were.
At the risk of being flamed here [and I hope I am not and that we all can agree to disagree and have different opinions], if Jake was in a hole today, I will be in a similar hole should the Chargers go all the way to the Super Bowl. I was at the game today [thank you to my work] and when the Chargers were obviously going to win, I told my husband that if they went to the Super Bowl, I would be spending the day at Disneyland [like I did the last time they went that far].
Ditto me too IamSheens! Would love the recipe so i can convert it to a crock pot recipe!
I have one that I make in the crockpot that I love.
BAKED POTATO SOUP for the Crockpot
3 Potatoes (peeled and diced in small pieces)
3 tablespoon Margarine
1 White Onion (chopped)
2 tablespoon all-purpose Flour
4 cup chicken stock
2 cup Water
1 ˝ cup Instant Mashed Potato Flakes
1 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Pepper
1 teaspoon chopped Garlic
1 cup Half-n-half
ľ pound Bacon (cooked and chopped)
˝ cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
2 Green Onions (chopped)
Peel and dice potatoes and boil until done (approx. 10 minutes). Drain. Meanwhile, cook bacon and chop onions.
Melt margarine in skillet and sauté onion until tender. Take one cup of water and add two tablespoons of flour in a jar and shake. Add this mixture to the butter/onions. It will make a roux; keep it moving over low heat.
Put drained potatoes in crockpot. Top with chopped bacon and onion mixture.
Combine chicken stock, one cup of water, half-n-half, potato flakes, salt, pepper and garlic.
Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.
Serve with cheddar cheese and/or green onions on top if desired. Accompany with a hot French or Sourdough loaf and butter.

hmph!...nothin' "poor" about my cleavage although the properties of the emerald's cleavage sound better than that of the sapphire which is:

First word of the day?
For Jeff: Tartuffe: hypocrite who pretends to religious piety
For Jer: Affected: Speaking or behaving in an artificial way to make an impression.
For Randy: Naive: deficient in relevant experience
For Laura: Shallow: lacking depth of intellect or knowledge; concerned only with what is obvious
For Tommy: Wanker: to be a wanker implies egotistical and self-indulgent behaviour.
Those are my first five words of the day: Tartuffe, Affected, Naive, Shallow, and Wanker.
Oh, come on Jake! We have Tartuffe as our word of the day so often; it's really getting old.
By the way, that might be what Wanker means in America, but it sure as heck is NOT what it means in Ireland!!! I'm just sayin'....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanker *warning -- don't click on link if you don't want to read a somewhat vulgar definition.

I feel like there should be a foot note, or quotation marks surrounding the word compelte when used to refer to FH and his sexual activites.
I just don't see how at his size he could make a woman feel "complete" in a sexual way. Unless, of course, complete in this case means being steam rolled.

As it technically describes being exhausted after sex, to say Sapphie is "knackered," might be an exaggeration.
I borrowed Tommy's manual and found myself taking more than 48 seconds to "make woman feel complete."
I just don't have the toad's touch!

Any Colts fans here? Are we going to have some friendly wagering within the DC Thread?
I'm a Charger fan all the way - even though I grew up a stone's throw from the Coliseum in Oakland (boo-hiss-Raiders) and worked in San Francisco during the 49er's domination years...
Are any of the spewgram crew football fans? I'm sure they'll be catching Charger Fever this week in any case.
IM A COLTS FAN!!!!!!
I'd love to see the Colts beat the chargers then go SLAUGHTER the patriots...but honestly....I dont care who wins as long as somebody beats the Patriots...I hate the Patriots (of course this makes sense bbeing a colts fan!!!) The good thing going for the chargers is that they have beat the Colts everytime they've played the last few meetings...the bad thing for the chargers is if they beat the Colts they will probably face the Patriots, who they haven't beat in a while....I'd rather let the Colts go to New England...but maybe the Jags will suprise us all and beat the Patriots....
All I know is that the Patriots must loose....
The Chargers are my backup team though!

Nope, you're not alone. I was at Target and then Vons today and it dawned on me that lots of people were wearing Charger shirts. I finally figured out that they must be playing today. The guy bagging my groceries said it was a play off or something, which I expressed surprise at and he said the Chargers made the play offs the last two years, too.
To which I reply, " ."
I knew they were playing because my brother told me, but I didn't realize it was a play off. I forgot until I went grocery shopping and all the cashiers were wearing jerseys. I'm glad they won because I'm a San Diegan, just not a football fan. I'm glad I'm not the only one here.

I caught the first part of the spewgram as well. LBM is stuck in Texas and failed to call in and inform her work that she wouldn't be there today. Talk about being irresponsible. They found this info out only because Tubby text messaged Laura after the show had even started and then that's when she passed on the information. LAME!
Yes and the holidays were so wonderful because all of Tubby's family was around to see his mother walk.

Carol: Was AJ talking about FH's blob, or does he have his own that he was referring to? I don't listen to that show, but I'm thinking I should.....
Their webpage got updated (finally - they had stuff on there from Thanksgiving), so whoever did that may have accidentally deleted his blog, but I think that FH is over us talking about him - maybe he's come to his senses that if he keeps his big boring piehole shut about his personal life, no one will talk about him on this forum. He still doesn't get it. I think the blog will be down for a while, and he'll start it up again because he'll have "received so many e-mails with people wondering what happened to me - they want to hear about me" - yada yada. The only one that wants to hear is PayPay Carl and his walking friends.
This show is so amazingly lame this morning - they all sound so awkward and just dumb. I've heard high school radio stations that were a million times better than this stuff. They were gone for two or three weeks, and it sounds like they've just started in the businesses - LAME! I'm done with them - searching my bag for my ipod now.....
The things that still continue are that Jeff is talking over people, trying to dominate conversations, and Jer sounds like he couldn't care less to be there.
Emily is one now - she sounds just like LBM. She could easily replace her and I'm sure we'd never figure it out.

oh, one other thing - I wonder if PPC (Paypal Carl) told him that if we continue to post things about him, without feeding off of the crap that HE puts out there, that it's considered slander, and they can now legally harass us. Just a thought.
I just found the blog - but he hasn't posted anything on it....wonder if it was just pulled down by accident. Or, my other theory still holds - he wants everyone to beg him to bring it back.

-Why is Laura in Texas, did she say?
-Not a fan of the comparison of LT to the Vet. statue, on their website
-New idea about Tommys blagh. Perhaps he was not getting the same amount of readers as he once was, so, in order to regain the readers he is taking a lil break so like someone mentioned, people will BEG him to bring it back.
-I really want some french fries.

Laura thinks she is Britney Spears. She is a 40 year old woman pretending to be 25. They have so much in common...........self centered, substance abuse, divorced, two kids. Who forgets to go to work????
Maybe they're using the LBM-forgot-to-come-to-work as a "bit." A fricking lame bit, but a bit. ?

That was my first thought, but then I realized after going to such a posh rehab facility the first time around, would she really go to one in Texas? Unless forced, again. If she was stuck in Utah, CO, or Wyoming I might believe rehab a 2nd time around.
How many times can this train wreck, wreck?
Maybe she slipped off the wagon and is in a short rehab to get back on? (I sincerely and genuinely hope that this is not the case.)
Wow, that could be true. I hope not, too. I bet the holidays are a really tough time for people struggling with addictions, especially in their first year.
I can't bring myself to listen to the Spewgram. I hoping others do and report back. LBM must not be living with FH anymore. I wonder how she's doing in her place?

I do not think she relapsed. I bet she is just on a vacation there, visiting an old friend, family, whatever...
and the showgram knew she would not be back before hand, but figured it would make a good bit, and spark some intrest, and some gossip talk. Get more people listening, ya know?

This is on the site where the blob used to be..hmmm interesting!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Here's the schedule and directions to some of the walks and hikes that I do with many of my friends and listeners. We hope you can join us in 2008!
Saturday at 5:45am: Iron Mountain: This is a pretty tough walk, but fun if you're a little in shape. It kicks my butt, which tells you that I'm not in good shape at this time. It takes our group about 1 hour to get to the mailbox on the top of Iron Mountain and then another hour back down. Iron Mountain is on the corner of Poway Road and where the 67 meet. We park on the east side of the dirt road. We meet at 5:45am, but we usually take off right before 6am. It's like 6.8 miles total.
Saturday at 9am: Torrey Pines: This is the walk that I originally started doing back in March of last year. I love this walk. This walk is where you can go if you want to start getting in better shape. You can bring kids, but no dogs, okay? This usually gets the largest crowd. We meet at 9am at Torrey Pines. We meet at the parking lot on the west side of the road where the guard entrance and bathroom and flag pole are. It's like 3.8 miles total.
Sunday at 7:45am: Cowles Mountain: I believe this is in San Carlos. This is on the corner of Navajo and Goldcrest or is it Golfcrest? Cowles kicks my butt. Cowles is where I first spoke to my fiance Michelle on July 8th. I love this walk and hike and it is really tough. It takes less than an hour and a half to do this and it will beat you up, but it's so cool.
*Some of the regulars and people that do these walks also walk Mira Mar Lake, Mission Bay, and many other places. Day and time varies. I will try to keep up a schedule for everyone to see where the next walk is.

I think that FH on the sqawk box is their idea to a cute throwback to when they first went on the air. At one point, when they were at the other other OTHER station, they rigged him up so that he sounded normal, but he wanted his squak-box back.

I heard, granted a long time ago, that the reason he had to use the squak box was because he did not have SAG (Screen Actor's Guild) card. There is a sizeable fee and you have to have "x" amount of airtime and somewhere along the line the station did not want to pay it because he is not on the air as much as the others. By his voice coming through the box, he is not directly using a microphone which in turn means he does not have to have a SAG card. I could be dreaming this but this is what I remember from years ago.
The union is actually AFTRA. I worked in a related industry at one point in my life, and contemplated getting carded. Decided against it - not because it cost a lot of money (which it didn't) - but it wouldn't allow me to do non-pro work.
All of these performing unions are somewhat related, and once you get carded from one, you can get carded for another at a discount rate.
The dues for AFTRA are about $1K per year.

I'm feeling as if I've offended many good parents. Please allow me to explain in greater detail.
When I was young, my parents would shout, "Go to your room!"
My room was not the site of punishment -- it was a place to avoid further punishment.
I think it is vital that children be taught, one level of punishment is avoidance of further punishment. My "room" was a sanctuary of comfort and peace. My parents would send me there whenever they were too upset to deal with me.
I learned, my room was a place of security -- a place where I could be "me" void of punishment. When things calmed down, I would be called out of my room for a "talk."
The "talk" was, or included the subsequent punishment.
I have a passion toward believing children behave in a selfish manner because that's what serves them best. Our job, as parents and adults, is to teach them, selfishness is not wrong -- it is limiting. It prevents the joy of others. It prevents us from experiencing the joy of others. And, it makes us believe we are better than others.
Selfishness is not a "punishable" behavior -- it is a "correctable" behavior. Does your "time-out" teach this? If so, I stand corrected.
Hey Jake, you make some great points. Where can I buy a copy of your parenting book? If not, is there one being written as we speak...I'd like it autographed, please! :)
I think when it comes to parenting, knowing your child well is key in order to predict behavior and keep misbehaving at bay. I respect parents who take time to observe and get to know their kids' actions/reactions in different settings. Only then can we as parents decide how to best discipline and deal with them. What works for one, will not necessarily work for the other.

Emily is not on the air that much and when she is, she is usually on the phone as they call her so she does not qualify. My guess is that all stations have some type of device that the producer can speak to the on-air personalities, i.e. squak box and that he has not carried it from station to station. Just a guess.
I'm going to stand by my "they're just phony baloney's who like the sound of the squak box; makes them feel like it makes them special." At least for now.
I've listened to many many radio stations, without ever EVER hearing a box like Tommy's. Can it be that every single on-air person has their "card" thingy except for him? And wouldn't it stand to reason that the stations would gladly pay for his membership?
Jen was an intern years ago, she didn't need the box...many examples pop into my head, but I don't want to go on and on. I just think the spewgram likes the sound of it, and wants Tubby to continue to use it for as long as he's their producer. It just sounds SOOOOO fake that he has to use it!

The cost to join AFTRA is negligible....here's the rate schedule.
http://www.aftra.org/member/dues_calculation.htm
He wants that dumb squak box for one reason or another. Maybe is nostalgia (thinking back to when the spewgram was good).
Just had another thought - he may be considered solely a "producer" and not an on-air personality, thereby putting him in the category of "suit" with the network, and not a showgram performer. In that case, he may not have to join AFTRA, but it would minimize his time on the air. However, he seems to have as much time on the air as he wants, so this may not be the case after all.

I haven't used it, but I've read up on it. Basically, you can't eat more than 15 grams of fat in a meal. If you do, that fat runs right through you, and you may not be able to control it. So, basically. I'm convicned the people losing weight are doing it because they are just too darned scared to eat at all!

Hey Jake, you make some great points. Where can I buy a copy of your parenting book? If not, is there one being written as we speak...I'd like it autographed, please! :)

Great comments -- well said and accurate.
I am actually writing a piece on the premise: Nothing is harmless when it comes to consistent parenting.
That is, the smallest behaviors are incremental in nature and shape the brain of a child. To ignore (or more properly, to not attend to) the smallest behaviors that call for correction, allows the child to build a model for negative growth.
One quick story that actually happened to me today at a local Starbucks illustrates perfectly what I am working on: I'm sitting at a table, reading the newspaper. Two woman behind me are holding a conversation, and a third woman, whom they knew, came in with her (approximately) 4-year-old son.
Mom stood there chatting for a good 13 minutes. The problem was after the first 5 minutes, the boy, understandably, was restless and began pulling mom’s shirt, smacking mom’s leg and whining, “Let’s get my drink…let’s sit down….let’s go home.”
Mom: “We’ll leave soon.” Fast forward, 8 more minutes of chatting ends and mom buys drink for kid. They walk by the table and mom says, “Say goodbye.” Child loudly yells, “Goodbye”….pulls his mom’s arm, looks at the two woman again and says, “Goodbye Poopies!” Mom: (leaving store) “Don’t say that honey.”
I’ve seen this story (and similar versions) hundreds of times over the years in my work.
“Jake, maybe she corrected the child after they left?” No. I followed them into Von’s to see if I was jumping to conclusions. They spent 10 minutes in Von’s and mom didn’t say a word about the coffee shop episode (I’ve gotten quite good at eavesdropping, in order to build accurate anecdotes).
Mom ignored child’s attention span (2-3 minutes plus his/her age), child started whining and making a scene, mom ignored whining, child got his chocolate milk, mom requested politeness by asking son to say goodbye, boy was disrespectful because it’s in his nature to not yet understand tone, attitude and common courtesy. And life went on.
A teachable moment vanished and a negative growth occurred. I see it every day – nothing is harmless.
Consistent corrections to the smallest, inappropriate behaviors, produces larger more appropriate behavior over time.
‘Nough said – thanks for the rant.

I actually had a parent in my 2 1/2-3 year old class tell me that she preferred that we not insist on "please" and "thank you" as it was too much pressure for a 3 year old to handle. I respectfully told her that when her daughter was in MY class, she would address me as Ms. SDGirl, and if she didn't use her manners, she would not get whatever she was asking for. Further, if she chose to whine, she would be ignored, as any other child in the room was. In my classroom, my kids (yes, even preschoolers) were expected to exercise self control (that which is age appropriate, of course), manners and "big kid talking" as opposed to whining. Funny thing, we had SO MUCH fun in our class with all of my "rules". Because they knew the boundaries, and who was in charge, there was rarely a problem, and we truly had a great time. Parents loved me, and their kids loved me, and I them.
This mother had 3 other kids. 2 teenage boys, both in prison, and 1 teenage daughter (age 14) who had 2 kids of her own. Yes, I'm serious. Maybe my insistance upon manners and self control were "harsh" (her word) but you know what...I am willing to bet that it probably wouldn't have hurt her little girl anymore than her lack of parenting was.

No.

Good question. It depends ...
If they're serving Sumatra Coffee, I'd go with the masks of Kirtimukhas, also known as 'Visages of Glory', and are intended to ward off evil.
If it's Sidamo Coffee, definitely go with the Idia’s Mask of Benin.

LBM doesn't have any friends it seems; so I highly (excuse the pun) doubt she's visiting anyone in Texas. Somethin's up; just like last time; J&J will say she's got some "family business" to tend to. Ya okay. And for her sake (and mostly the kids') that's way too sad.
FH has quit drinking this year due to his tequila sunrise New Year's Day evidently. So much for the claims of never/rarely drinking.
When the blaaahhhhg was missing over their vaca I had a feeling the suits had it pulled. Either that or legal advice (or threats) made it happen. He's his own worse enemy.
Listened just a smidge; did he even mention Moochie? Heard about how his mom is doing "great" and all the kids were there. How much of that is believeable?
Jer made a comment about how their last show of 2008 will be in July or something. Not too far off the mark.

Didn't someone mention 2009 as the end of J&J's contract? And everyone's sure Jer's not coming back; he constantly talks about phoning it in since a year or more ago himself. The consensus is Jeff has too many mouths to feed to retire just yet though.

When it finally ends, the show will collapse inward upon itself, as a deflating balloon. JerK will be busy with his swinger friends and cats, Jeff will git to Ohio or go back to some other roots with Kristin, FH will be frantically looking for a job, carrying his squak box under his sweaty armpit, LBM will still be missing, and Randy...? I have no clue. There is no way they could sell the show - as a package - to any station.
I bet he is sick of her games... I mean who knows how long they have actually had to deal with her and her behaviors before she even went to rehab...I'd be bitter and angry about her as well...
Oh me too! I've always wondered why they've put up with both her and FH's crap and all the blahhhhhg lies, etc. The fact that they effect the reputation of their show would be enough to boot them to curb. Remember last year (or longer ago) when that big thing was going on about LBM coming into work late and FH bribing her with that purse? Well now we know she was probably hung or high or both and not getting her a$$ to work on time; how pi$$ed must J&J have been? I mean come on!
When I heard Emily on today I immediately thought they were sending a message to LBM to get her butt to work and/or they were showing how quickly she could be replaced. Loved it. No matter how good or bad Emily was.

He is an inept ambulance chaser and, a "shyster" . At one point, he claims to have graduated from Princeton school of law, although Princeton has never had a law school. His legal practice, located in a shopping mall, was named "I Can't Believe It's A Law Firm!" and also offered "expert shoe repair". He often tried to entice potential clients with free gifts, including a "smoking monkey" doll and a business card that "turns into a sponge when you put it in water."

I DO feel bad that Carl was able to disturb the private lives of the GA mods. It's not right that he sought out private info to try to bully all of us. I understand her concern. HE is a creep. Any and all info discussed was made public by the people being discussed. We sought NO private info. Carl is a bully. Tommy is a bully. More than that, they're weak. Put yourself out there in public and be preared to deal with PUBLIC OPINION. Wussies.

Carol, you have to remember... This is not public. This is a private forum. Therefore, the admins can do whatever they feel is right for their forum. Obviously, this is something that they felt strongly about.
If anyone has a problem with the new rules or the fact that the thread was removed (possibly temporarily), they can either complain about it elsewhere or just go with the flow. But if anyone bitches about it here, I have a feeling lights & others can take quite a bit of a harsher action than simply moving 1 thread. Just sayin...

Agree, so what if they post public stuff, in public, and publically talk about how they posted public records publicly.
I should be a publicist.
I thank the highly popular showgram for this. I mean, over a million hits. Can't dominate that.
They may have walked all those trail, but we key stroked those same miles.
Now, may I be excused so I can watch re-runs of Three's ________, (I can't say full show name due to copyright issues....

Jenny, I think that our angst comes from the fact that we are being accused of stuff without the benefit of being able to give our side. There was no warning given...nothing.
Several of our members have recieved threatning PM's from the attorney in question when they did NOTHING. Absolutely nothing. The attorney posted his website address in his public profile.
I'm genuinely sorry that anyone has been made to feel threatened or unsafe. Our thread may have gotten nasty towards certain people, but we didn't make ANYTHING up. Addresses and phone numbers are matters of public record. We were not the ones posting pictures of our children, and telling the world where they were going to be, when they were going to be there and who they would be with. In most cases, we simply copied and pasted the information from the Star 94.1 public site.
I respect that the owners of GotApex have every right to run this forum the way that they feel is best. I also respect the fact that apparently, some lines were crossed.
I think our frustration comes from the fact that suddenly poof...our thread was hidden. We are not upset with any of the moderators or with GotApex. We are frustrated with the situation, and unfortuantely our ire may be misdirected a bit.
