That may be my problem. Not a big music fan. When I first heard the name, I thought Eminem was "M&M" candy until my husband told me I was an idiot (lovingly).
Okay, that is one I know. Lynyrd Skynyrd by chance? Back when I listened to music, that was my kind of tune.
Hmmmmmmmm, garybear you got it, you little fan of music. If I recall correctly, you are in Chula Vista [sorry if I am wrong]. If so, that song and that city, brings back memories.
As for you being "simple" jake, I will give you that, but for what you have given this board, you are beyond "Registered" - whether you want to admit it or not. And from what I have read on Yuku, you might need to be know as "the man that women fight over".

Hi Lisa...how was your day? :)
It was actually quite good, until I talked to my mom who asked me to please "check on my dad". I could tell she was worried. UGH, my husband and I went down to check on him and within a minute of being there, I raced to the bathroom bawling. Then composed myself and came back STRONG for daddy!
I am keeping my fingers crossed that this was just "one of those days". He has the same nurse tonite as last night [even she was surprised at his condition today] and she is gonna keep her eye on him. But then again, my dad is infamous for doing 360's *fingers crossed*.
Sapphie - btw, I love the recent dialog about your "name".

Hi Everyone! Just checking in, today is my bday!!!! Happy bday to meeee! :) I'm OLD, so it's not a very joyous day or anything, can't always be turning 25 i guess, right?
I got a lovely pedicure with 10 extra minutes of foot massage, since I haven't seen my toes in a couple of months now. Napped, cleaned the house (nesting) and have enjoyed scrolling back on the DC forum.
Just wanted to say hello and is there still an "event" this Saturday? I never heard much about anything. Maybe I'll pm sdGirl?

One indicator of how far removed the spewgram has become from San Diegans is their whole complete lack of interest in the Chargers. It was sad that a show that purports to be a voice for San Diego could not generate any enthusiasm for the team at all. They did it back when we played Pittsburgh those many years ago and we were huge underdogs then just like now. It would have beenm alot more interesting than American Idol, tired old radio bits, relationship shows, ad nauseum....

Apparently you missed today's "new" bit. It was hilarious.
LBM started it off saying she was amused by the streetname "Darkwood." Then they played the "Call-in-and-tell-us-double-entendre-streetnames" game.
What a classic to hear Mr. "Let-me-tell-you-about-my-church" aka Jeff, chortle as he reacted to a woman who lived on Seeman street.
"How long have you lived on Seeman? You can't live too long on Seeman....."
I love Christian humor!!!
Wait, I've heard this bit.......oh yeah, it was on their show last year. And again two years ago.
Came on right after the "tell-us-the-funny-double-entendre-teachers-names-you-had-in-school" game, and the "funny-sounding-asian-name" game, Oh yeah, also, the "let's-make-fun-of-American-Indians name game."
Not THAT was a classic.

What is the deal with Mitt Romney? Not only is he out-of-touch but he does not seem to believe what he is saying. Yikes. And while I had some interest in Huckabee (the same is funny) his comment that marriage should only be with a man and woman...not two men, two women, not a man and a kid or a man and a dog. What? I miss all the action and re-actions on this site. I do read yuku but it seems different to me somehow. Probably just me. No, it's not just you. I read on yuku sometimes too, but it is very different, and actually more difficult to navigate. So many threads, choices, busy busy screens, and kinda cutesy - no offense to the posters there - but it's become not so much J&J crapgram related. This GA board was more fun especially before PPC made us come to a temporary halt. Here we also had 180+ posters, and on Yuku I think there are 40 or so registered. I could be wrong, as I haven't visited there in a while. My guess is that many are just lurking and waiting to see which board they feel most comfy on, or just logging off forever.

Clarence, just keep pushing buttons. Something will happen. Did you log on ok?
I don't thnk this site has jumped the shark, BigAl, you just have to have patience, and we need a new boatload of dumb moves on the showgram's part. People just need to find their rhythm and reshuffle their decks. Thankfully, we're mostly endowed with full ones, so it shouldn't take all that long.
Remember, it used to go all weekend sometimes without any posts here. I know that for a fact, cause I would be the poster left hanging there. We've gotten used to a certain speed of discussion, and it will have to develop itself.
I was thinking maybe we might want to invite certain "Guest Speakers" to stop by occasionally, to spark discussions. One idea I had, let me know if it is a good one, is to invite someone who is in the "entertainment field" who could discuss the pros and cons of different self-tanning products versus getting a real tan outside by atually participating in outdoor activities.
Another idea was to invite someone, again, "From the entertainment industry," to come and give us "Tips on Being a Royal Pain in the A__ Wine Snob from La Jolla." And then, maybe a celebrity from our local arts and culture society page to give us tips on "Makeup like a Clown in 5 easy lessons."
Then, there's always room for a celebrity from the local legal community who could come and offer "tips for planning your last will and testosterone." That isn't something that would work for me, but many of the guys might find that topic helpful.
I had noticed we all lacked a certain, oh, je nais ce squat, educational content here, but, it's just a thought I had, maybe someone else has a better idea how to improve our minds while working our fingers?
Layla
01-27-2008, 08:34 AM
Ah hem! Just for clarifications sake, there are 145 members REGISTERED at the Yuku site. There were not 180+ POSTERS here, there were 180+ people who actually spoke up to get a number, most of those went back into hiding after recieving said number. :p
The Spewgram has not given us any fodder since the new year. Perhaps they've learned a lesson. Perhaps some of our bitching sunk in. It certainly shouldn't stop any of us from still having fun. Which we are sure doing. New band members and all. Personally, I like knowing that some of us have more in common then the Jeff and Jer Showgram.
RowdyOne
01-27-2008, 10:06 AM
Wabbit and Layla, please be assured that my previous posts, and perhaps those of BigAl and others, mean no disrespect to those who have embraced the Yuku site. I'm registered there too. As they continue to develop, I'm wondering if G/A and Yuku will go in different directions -- both being about the J&J suckgram, but with this one being more J&J specific and the other more chat-like. Just a thought, as it seems that's how the posts are going... IMHO...
I think it's great that those who wanted to meet up in person were able to do so, and make real friendships via the boards. The YUMs have done a lot of hard work to make it happen!
The slowgram has spewed much less fodder in 2008, no doubt as a result of our calling them out and Moochie's crying and wringing of hands. No more Tommy Blaagh, no more TubbyTube, oh my! Wonder how much $$$ they paid PPCarl to intervene with his two-bit PM lawyering. What a joke that was. I suppose more of us will have to listen more often now (Aargh! my ears hurt already!) in order to post the "gems" for all to contemplate. Any volunteers?

Hello??? I'm lost, and can't find the other site!!!
I have major news, and not major news...
My major news - I had my boys!!!! Welcome to the world, Ben and Aaron! I went in this last Tuesday for my reg. checkup, and the OB didn't like my bloodwork results, so she admitted me there and then, and at 8:23 and 8:24 respectively, my twins arrived.
We're home now, and it's ROUGH!!!! Holy smokes, (won't say "balls") are we in for a loooong journey. But now our family is big and complete. :)
thanks to all (those left on here anyway) who have supported me and thought well wishes for me these last few months!
Now the other news: We had a LBM sighting today!!! Okay, not me, I've been at home where I'll stay for quite a while, but one of my good friends took my 3 y.o. daughter to Parkway Plaza for some 'away time' and she said she saw Laura about 6 people in front of her in the carousel line. Here's what she saw:
Laura had the "precious babies" with her no Chips, she said she had no idea her kids were so freaky looking. "Not to be mean, but I think her son may have ADHD." She also said Evan was dressed in a weird one piece outfit that looked homemade, and wondered if LBM had made it herself. i told her unlikely!
Well, they got to the front, OH! This thing takes tokens? How do I get the tokens? (there's only a sign that says "put money here to get your token, we don't take cash").
LAURA actually thinks you have to go to one of the retail stores to get tokens, and wants to be pointed in the right direction of said store. The token lady explains, No, you put your money in tha little machine there. It's $3 per token, or $5 for 2 tokens.
OH! I'm LBM, I'm a big deal, I don't have CASH!!! (wtf did you expect, Laura? that this carousel would take debit cards?)
So she is told where to go to find an ATM machine. My friend wondered if she expected to be given free rides for her kids.
Anyway, that's the sighting. Typical Laura. Now if someone can POINT ME in the right direction of that other site, I can spread my news there!
Have a good night all, I'll try to be here in the morning!

I guess I'm "bi" then, 'cuz I post in both! :naughty:
It looks like Flubber is on a blawging hiatus...all the more attention can therefore be directed to Jerk and LBM!
Once again, Jerk was a Jerk to Delana this morning. Right after her news segment which included mention of the top two movies over the weekend, he pipes in that she didn't give the movie news, so LBM has to whinny in with the top 10 movies.
I guess her smooth, perfect for radio voice can't penetrate his self-absorbed bubble?
And LBM letting the kids try on her extensions?!?! She of the staph infected finger?!?! She touched those things with her skanky finger, they are certainly bug invested!!!!!

At the risk of repeating myself and giving you a deja vu moment:
LBM is PITIFUL!! She starts talking about how she stayed up last night thinking about what kind of shoes she needs to get for her hip hop classes. Ummmm, Laura? If you spent a FRACTION of the time you spend thinking about how you can be "cool," thinking about your kids, the "dog and pony" show being "performed" around you might not be so extreme. (Notice how she takes absolutely no responsibility for this alleged "dog and pony" show?)
The rock climbing place, while it started out as a birthday present for Charlie, soon turned into how she can become more "cool" ... how did she say it? "cut and fat-free."
So they get home from rock climbing and have enough time to spend in her closet, but she didn't even THINK of what she was going to feed those kids?
WHAT A FREAKIN LOSER!!!
Congrats on the babies!
You should tell your friend to call the Dirt Line!

Congratulations, SDChick! Enjoy those babies.
LBM, FHBM, etc., but I have a new job that doesn't allow me to check either site at work, and I'm just too durned tired at night to get on the computer. I'll check in when I can, but there is just too much for me to be able to keep up. You have all kept me so entertained here....thankk you!

He's done a lot of work archiving this site to the other and has become the #1 poster -- a "Delana" -- because of it. I understand his wanting to make Yuko the main, if not only, J&J sucks site, just as I wish G|A could have returned to it's pre-PPCarl fun 'n' games.

**second attempt - note to self - control c before send**
The tag line came with the picture, so I can't take credit for that. I'd be a little nicer. :)
So, my mini-rant, probably not as succinct as the first, but hopefully to the point.
Why do people feel it's okay to complain when other are not posting enough for their amusement? Or worse, complain that someone is going off topic? Is "being too busy" a good excuse to tell others how to post?
It is impossible for any "thread" to be on topic all the time. If it did, it would be much like the spewgram.....15 minutes of material stretched over 4 hours of air time.
There was a nice little community here, but folks migrated when it was shut down. Now, there is another little community. They each have their little quirks. I don't think they are in "competition" with each other, just share one major topic in common.
What's important to remember, is it's the members that make the community. There are real people behind those user names.
All MB's have their own pace and rhythm. Enjoy the ride.

Great point Willow.
I really think the topic of which place is better should really just be dropped. The fact is, PPCarl succeeded in putting a stop to the fun we were having here. Things were not recovering. A move was made. Things wouldn't have been the same here, things aren't the same there. Ok. But why cry over spilled milk?
Personally, I don't come to this thread anymore because every time I do this is all I read: "Why I don't like the Yuku board". Well, I apologize that it's not exactly the same as G|A, but can it be dropped? Can we move on? Maybe this particular thread should be renamed the Drama Club Board Drama YUKU vs G|A thread. Geeze. We ALL wish G|A would have remained the same as it was, the fact is, it didn't and it COULDN'T because the rules of the game were changed. We were all forced to move on and try to get some "normalcy" back. Go there, stay here, go to both, all choices are ok, but can we put the topic up there with politics and religion, please?

NEWS FLASH: Jer is a perv!!!
This morning there was a segment during which listeners would call to guess whether a certain name was a "My Pretty Pony" name or a "Jerry's Movies" name (think Babette, Sprinkles, Ivy, Ready to Romp, Tickle, etc.) Jer said he'd looked up a few porn movie stars - he didn't admit to WATCHING porn, but of course we know he did. I didn't hear Jeff or Delana at all during this, though I didn't listen to the beginning, or the end, of the segment. Perhaps it was a Best Of.
BTW, we need another name for "Best of J&J" because it surely isn't.

Not the correct movie, but that's okay. This movie I saw for the first time in Chula Vista. This relates to you only in that for some reason I thought you lived there. Brain has been a bit scrambled of late.
As for the pups - ??? Unless there have been any changes in his/her schedule or any additions to the household, could there be a medical issue? Nature's Miracle is my next suggestion. And lastly, I first read it as your 4 "month" old lab and I was stressing, as ours is just over that. Hope that you find out the problem and a solution.

Jake, saw the movie, my favorite two lines are the next ones after the one about the candlesticks:
"Yeah? Have you heard of Walt Whitman?"

As for the pup...hmm. it has been cold, and it has been rainy. Bailey Basset got to the point last night where she would stick her head out of the side garage door, and absolutely refuse to go out.
Talk to your vet...could be kidney issues, but are you talking #1 or #2 (please don't get too detailed, I can't stand it).

Well, I guess you are catching up right now, but basically this thread was taken away because some lawyer ("paypal carl")put pressure on the GA moderators. In the meantime they set up a new forum over at YUKU. Eventually the forum was returned, but with stringent rules about what could not be posted. It looks like many have opted to keep posting over at YUKU. It takes some getting used to, but personally I love it.
You'll get many more details by reading the postings, but that's it in a nutshell. I hope you can find your way over to YUKU and join in!

Hi there! I am a new participant in this forum and I have been so busy with work and out of town that I haven't had a chance to catch up on the Laura on Jeff and Jer gossip. Can someone please explain Laura's diary entry where she states,
"I had a lot to do before Jeff's Superbowl party so I got up and got ready and then I got a phone call that slammed me to the ground.
I'm wondering when "it" is going to stop being thrown in my face. A friend called to tell me what she saw, just to commiserate and show her support and to let me know people are on my side, but it re-opened the wound and I started to bleed all over the place. Just when I think I'm all good, I get hit again. Frankly, I'm sick of it."
I know that her and her husband, Dave Cain, are separated but what is she referring to? Has he moved on or what? I was so hoping with her recovery that her family would once again come together. Call me a hopeless romantic but I would have loved to see them get back together.

Don't really know, beckie, but one thing for sure...it's not her fault. She was nowhere near it when it happened. Someone else is responsible. She's sick of it, and it should just go away because she says so. She shouldn't have to keep being reminded of the pain, the problems, and the heartache she has caused other people. All that worrying will give HER wrinkles and make her uncomfortable.
Someone should make the uncomfortable stuff disappear, and she should be free to not worry about stuff. Oh, and she should get to be best buddies with her kids whenever she feels like it. And someone else should do all the hard stuff.
I don't know the specifics, but all the above should just about cover it.

Step One: Plant a garden.
Step 2: Add two wonderful plants.
Step 3: Neglect plants because watering and nurturing interfere with other needs.
Step 4: Watch garden wither.
Step 5: Have someone else take care of garden while you tend to personal needs.
Step 6: Complain when you return to the garden because someone else is enjoying the harvest they nurtured and cultivated while you were involved in your own self-induced, self-absorbed needs.
Final result? You are "farmer" Laura Cain. Shoveling the manure of your life's choices.

Ok, so what I am gathering from the posts above is that Dave has moved on to another and Laura feels it is constantly being thrown in her face? I do agree with the fact that she did make her bed, and now has to lay in it...I do feel very bad for the children though...I hope they are now in a more stable and loving environment than before...I also do aplaud Laura for getting the help she needed with her addictions but sometimes being sorry for your actions and correcting the bad behavior doesn't erase the mistakes made. Hopefully she has learned from them and won't make the same destructive ones again. She also deserves to be happy as everyone does in this short life we have and I hope she can find that happiness once again with a man as wonderful she said Dave was.
Sorry, I just can't be mean and judgemental about someone I don't know personally.. and no I am not one of her minions...I am not even a daily listener of their show (have recently discovered Sophie 103.7 and love their music now)I was just trying to find out what she meant by the post in her journal.
Thanks to all for the responses...

Al, just because FH ruins everything he comes in contact with, are we going to let him ruin this board too? I think not! I like the slower pace now and actually I can keep up with it! And there still are a lot of lurkers who might jump onto the scene - either here, on YUKU, or both. Read that: "Don't Be Shy." A variety of posters brings just that much more to think and type about. Are we talking about the same kind of "baring" here?
To clarify: I was thinking that becks here wanted to get nekked in a hot tub with us, possibly in order to get to know us all better...
and I thought you were interpreting "baring" as meaning we should expose our innermost thoughts to each other...
unless, of course, you were using triple entendres, in which case, I might ask you, " Are there any "attachments", Jake?"
and then I would hand you your glasses so you might better be able to see clearly who else is in the hot tub with you. I take it by "not content" you mean that you don't care how many people are in there with you.....

For some reason, I think they are live this week. Jer(k) mentioned his wife has a business trip to New York, so they probably had to change vacation weeks.
It probably killed them because taking the week before President's day gives them 10 consecutive vacation days (Sat. thru following President's Day). Now they will only have 9 days off.
That's my guess.

Jake, your answer is good for periods and commas, but not for question marks. Allow me to use my English major here (this might be the 5th time since the 80s...)
If a question is in quotation marks, the question mark should indeed be placed inside the quotation marks.
Example: She asked, "Are you really bugged by Jeff and Jer?"
However, here is an example of where the question is outside the quote:
Do you agree with the statement, "Laura Bugs Me"?
You follow the logic of the sentence. So RowdyOne, your question mark should be placed after the quotation mark.

I was just thinking about it and I really wonder if Tommy was popular in high school? Maybe he uses his so called "popularity" now to make up for not being as popular in highschool? I mean why else would he have all these strangers crash parties with him? To prove he does have friends....maybe I'm way off on this idea....just throwing it out there...

Could not believe that he was saying that, and even more amazed that the radio station allows him to behave this way! Just shows how classless he truly is
Oh wait so he said that on the radio????
I don't understand the whole relationship they have with the radio station...I think they are owned by clear channel? Are they really that big of deals that they have the power to just get away with anything? I know him saying someone is going to get laid in the scheme of things is distasteful but not really bad...I mean its not something the FCC can fine the station for...but did you know that every thing that goes on the air is recorded? I learned about in my media law class...its to essentially protect the radio stations...so say you heard something on the radio that you found offensive..if enough people complain about it then the FCC opens a case on it and the station is required to turn over the recordings...if something goes against the FCC's rules and regulations then the station can be fined...maybe even have their license suspended or revoked...but im wondering if the call ins are recorded...haven't people said in the past tommy talked inappriopriately to them? I wonder if those conversation are recorded...if so....that would be really interesting, Tommy could get in A LOT of trouble...

Other thread is getting way too "personal."
Too many "look at me" posts. And way too many "pixie-dust, wand waving, spanish-speaking, page-turning, invisible-elve searching" references.
Note; I did not say these were "bad" posts.....I said, "too many."
Brevity is the soul of wit...."and tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes, I will be brief..."
While we bicker over posts....J & J continue on their march toward the "World's Most Mediocre Retirement."
KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE: "J and J suck....LBM is a LOSER.....and FH is a chronic, lying, cheating, FAT, P-O-SH*T!!!"
If you insist on whining among yourselves, remember this:

Funny. Last night I left the other board and deleted my link to it. I like this board because I can jump in and see exactly where I left off. There is no contest to win the "First-post-of-the-page" - I am just interested in the Spewgram trash. They have built a great social site over there but that is not for me. I truly hope that this board comes back to life.

It's true unnamed sources aren't always the most reliable...why is it in magazines like Ok! and Enquirer they have the outrageous stories about celebrities and then say....a reliable source says...or a close friend says...if they are so reliable why don't they reveal their name? And why would a close friend say bad stuff about someone? makes no sense...well I can give reasons to why a close friend would run to magazines but...in theory good friends don't do that type of thing...
I don't know what was said on yuku or anything only what people are posting here so I'm not saying its true or false just in general wonk and jake have a point.

I get that Rowdy. I do. The thing is though, at YUKU we are having fun and just playing around. We are not talking about Apex and the good, bad or ugly of it. Here though, at least every time I check in, I see you guys discussing YUKU. Not J&J, but how much you all don't like YUKU and prefer here. That's fabulous, but why keep going on about it?
And, a point I made earlier that some of you might have seen. Had we not moved, we'd all be here, trying to entertain ourselves the same way. It's not about the board, it's about the people. My Cesarean scar is the one thing keeping me from ripping my clothes off. That and the size of my boobs. And, the fact that I have two young children. And, my boss might not like me doing that. And, that my husband might frown upon the idea. Anyway, that's thought number one."

Need more, ey?
See the film "Amazing Grace" about the amazing William Wilberforce and his efforts to end England's slave trade. Great movie. Here is a quote from a speech he delivers in the film:
"When I consider the magnitude of the subject which I am to bring before the House—a subject, in which the interests, not of this country, nor of Europe alone, but of the whole world, and of posterity, are involved: and when I think, at the same time, on the weakness of the advocate who has undertaken this great cause—when these reflections press upon my mind, it is impossible for me not to feel both terrified and concerned at my own inadequacy to such a task. But when I reflect, however, on the encouragement which I have had, through the whole course of a long and laborious examination of this question, and how much candour I have experienced, and how conviction has increased within my own mind, in proportion as I have advanced in my labours;—when I reflect, especially, that however averse any gentleman may now be, yet we shall all be of one opinion in the end;—when I turn myself to these thoughts, I take courage—I determine to forget all my other fears, and I march forward with a firmer step in the full assurance that my cause will bear me out, and that I shall be able to justify upon the clearest principles, every resolution in my hand, the avowed end of which is, the total abolition of the slave trade. I wish exceedingly, in the outset, to guard both myself and the House from entering into the subject with any sort of passion. It is not their passions I shall appeal to—I ask only for their cool and impartial reason; and I wish not to take them by surprise, but to deliberate, point by point, upon every part of this question. I mean not to accuse any one, but to take the shame upon myself, in common, indeed, with the whole parliament of Great Britain, for having suffered this horrid trade to be carried on under their authority. We are all guilty—we ought all to plead guilty, and not to exculpate ourselves by throwing the blame on others; and I therefore deprecate every kind of reflection against the various descriptions of people who are more immediately involved in this wretched business."
Sounds like our President, ey? (no political bash intended....just mocking his very poor rhetoric.)

I quit. Do not read this post....it is only designed to get us out of the sign of the beast....
Wilberforce...partII:
"Having now disposed of the first part of this subject, I must speak of the transit of the slaves in the West Indies. This I confess, in my own opinion, is the most wretched part of the whole subject. So much misery condensed in so little room, is more than the human imagination had ever before conceived. I will not accuse the Liverpool merchants: I will allow them, nay, I will believe them to be men of humanity; and I will therefore believe, if it were not for the enormous magnitude and extent of the evil which distracts their attention from individual cases, and makes them think generally, and therefore less feelingly on the subject, they would never have persisted in the trade. I verily believe therefore, if the wretchedness of any one of the many hundred Negroes stowed in each ship could be brought before their view, and remain within the sight of the African Merchant, that there is no one among them whose heart would bear it. Let any one imagine to himself 6 or 700 of these wretches chained two and two, surrounded with every object that is nauseous and disgusting, diseased, and struggling under every kind of wretchedness! How can we bear to think of such a scene as this? One would think it had been determined to heap upon them all the varieties of bodily pain, for the purpose of blunting the feelings of the mind; and yet, in this very point (to show the power of human prejudice) the situation of the slaves has been described by Mr. Norris, one of the Liverpool delegates, in a manner which, I am sure will convince the House how interest can draw a film across the eyes, so thick, that total blindness could do no more; and how it is our duty therefore to trust not to the reasonings of interested men, or to their way of colouring a transaction. “Their apartments,” says Mr. Norris, “are fitted up as much for their advantage as circumstances will admit. The right ancle of one, indeed is connected with the left ancle of another by a small iron fetter, and if they are turbulent, by another on their wrists. They have several meals a day; some of their own country provisions, with the best sauces of African cookery; and by way of variety, another meal of pulse, &c. according to European taste. After breakfast they have water to wash themselves, while their apartments are perfumed with frankincense and lime-juice. Before dinner, they are amused after the manner of their country. The song and dance are promoted,” and, as if the whole was really a scene of pleasure and dissipation it is added, that games of chance are furnished. “The men play and sing, while the women and girls make fanciful ornaments with beads, which they are plentifully supplied with.” Such is the sort of strain in which the Liverpool delegates, and particularly Mr. Norris, gave evidence before the privy council. What will the House think when, by the concurring testimony of other witnesses, the true history is laid open. The slaves who are sometimes described as rejoicing at their captivity, are so wrung with misery at leaving their country, that it is the constant practice to set sail at night, lest they should be sensible of their departure. The pulse which Mr. Norris talks of are horse beans; and the scantiness, both of water and provision, was suggested by the very legislature of Jamaica in the report of their committee, to be a subject that called for the interference of parliament. Mr. Norris talks of frankincense and lime juice; when surgeons tell you the slaves are stowed so close, that there is not room to tread among them: and when you have it in evidence from sir George Yonge, that even in a ship which wanted 200 of her complement, the stench was intolerable. The song and the dance, says Mr. Norris, are promoted. It had been more fair, perhaps, if he had explained that word promoted. The truth is, that for the sake of exercise, these miserable wretches, loaded with chains, oppressed with disease and wretchedness, are forced to dance by the terror of the lash, and sometimes by the actual use of it. “I,” says one of the other evidences, “was employed to dance the men, while another person danced the women.” Such, then is the meaning of the word promoted; and it may be observed too, with respect to food, that an instrument is sometimes carried out, in order to force them to eat which is the same sort of proof how much they enjoy themselves in that instance also. As to their singing, what shall we say when we are told that their songs are songs of lamentation upon their departure which, while they sing, are always in tears, insomuch that one captain (more humane as I should conceive him, therefore, than the rest) threatened one of the women with a flogging, because the mournfulness of her song was too painful for his feelings. In order, however, not to trust too much to any sort of description, I will call the attention of the House to one species of evidence which is absolutely infallible. Death, at least, is a sure ground of evidence, and the proportion of deaths will not only confirm, but if possible will even aggravate our suspicion of their misery in the transit. It will be found, upon an average of all the ships of which evidence has been given at the privy council, that exclusive of those who perish before they sail, not less than 12½ per cent. perish in the passage. Besides these, the Jamaica report tells you, that not less than 4½ per cent. die on shore before the day of sale, which is only a week or two from the time of landing. One third more die in the seasoning, and this in a country exactly like their own, where they are healthy and happy as some of the evidences would pretend. The diseases, however, which they contract on shipboard, the astringent washes which are to hide their wounds, and the mischievous tricks used to make them up for sale, are, as the Jamaica report says, (a most precious and valuable report, which I shall often have to advert to) one principle cause of this mortality. Upon the whole, however, here is a mortality of about 50 per cent. and this among negroes who are not bought unless (as the phrase is with cattle) they are sound in wind and limb. How then can the House refuse its belief to the multiplied testimonies before the privy council, of the savage treatment of the negroes in the middle passage? Nay, indeed, what need is there of any evidence? The number of deaths speaks for itself, and makes all such enquiry superfluous. As soon as ever I had arrived thus far in my investigation of the slave trade, I confess to you sir, so enormous so dreadful, so irremediable did its wickedness appear that my own mind was completely made up for the abolition. A trade founded in iniquity, and carried on as this was, must be abolished, let the policy be what it might,—let the consequences be what they would, I from this time determined that I would never rest till I had effected its abolition."

Just saw this, info on the tax "Rebate":
To get any rebate, you must file a 2007 tax return and have a valid Social Security number. If you already filed your 2007 return, the IRS says you don't need to do anything extra.
Most taxpayers will receive a check of up to $600 for individuals and $1,200 for couples, with an additional $300 for each child.
People earning too little to pay taxes but at least $3,000 — including elderly people whose only income is from Social Security and veterans who live on disability payments — will get $300 if single, or $600 if a couple.
The IRS will send out rebates — by mail or by direct deposit into your bank account — through the late spring and the summer. The rebates come in addition to any regular tax refund.
